@ryan I appreciate your feedback. I knew straight away what I did and it was the cliche beginner mistakes. It’s not something I would usually do it was just that yesterday was a particularly bad day with work, etc. That was the tipping point.

I’ve never punched anything in anger and in truth it was probably 1% trading and 99% continuous build up of external stuff from the past 18 months.

I guess I wanted to vent to someone and luckily we have this community. I’m sure there’s other traders who have had similar situations (or as I will now refer to them - knucklebreaker trades)

I also think it was the universe telling me I need to focus on the important things in life and stop putting off what needs doing to scalp some horses!

Yep you'll only get those stakes matched on Premier league really, well on others but getting out might be a worry!

Realistically unless you are paying PC I wouldn't worry about using Betfair, even then I'd take Betfair over others for trading for knowing I can get out when I need too.

@john-folan I think I’m going to do it!

I did play about with brain.fm for a while to get more focused - I do use the Calm app and they have a music section which I have always liked as sometimes I dont want words in the music if focusing as I might get focused on the words not what I’m doing lol

There’s a few challenger banks but its tricky to get people to move everything over, I love the monzo interface (better than any of the others) thought about moving everything over but then thought god this is a faff and I’ve stuck with Halifax lol

  • Is it possible to trade live on Betfair in Australia?

    @andy-traph

Hi Andy - I live in Australia and have been using VPN successfully to in play trade for about 2 years. However......

I have had a month off trading recently and went in to trade 2 days ago and my account was locked.

I’ve just got off the phone to Betfair Australia and they advised the account was locked due to the fact they identified a suspicious log in from overseas and wanted ensure it was me. Strange given I only ever log in via the VPN so not sure why they’ve only flagged this now.

The operator told me that I can use VPN but reminded me in no uncertain terms that it is a breach of T&C’s for me to use a VPN to circumvent in play betting legislation in Australia and they asked me to confirm I understood this.

I feel like my run has come to an end using VPN to trade in play. I suspect my account is flagged now and if I do it again they’ll shut me down.

I need to re-evaluate given many of my strategies rely on in-play trading. As another member pointed out you can still do it legally here by placing in play trades via phone call to Betfair however this is not always viable as odds can move significantly during the time it takes to place the call and execute with the operator.

I’m a bit shattered and need to go back to the drawing board due to a ridiculous archaic law.

Happy to help you with a VPN setup if you want to try your luck. Not sure if they flagged me due to routine check or if they are cracking down.

@faouzi-nouma Betfair sportsbook is a bookie, fine to use just don't lay off any betfair exchange bets on it or vice versa!

As a Sports trader will stocks & shares day traders be treated in the same way I will?
Will there be affordability checks on people trading shares? Somehow I don't think so!

One repercussion of this may be that traders leave a bigger balance in their accounts to avoid depositing which could lead to more problems.

@lee-woodman yeah bookies act more like crooks though, what I love with casinos is they always seem to pay out very rarely any questions asked and I've never had to go to IBAS with a dispute unlike the five occasions I did with bookies! (Won all those cases fortunately!)
