Is it possible to trade live on Betfair in Australia?

Hey guys Andy here,
I went onto Betfair to attempt a live trade! And a pop-up came up advising the bet couldn't be placed possibly due to the country I'm located in.
Any members here from Australia or members that have had this same challenge regarding In-Play trading on Betfair? If so, how do you suggest we approach day trading on Betfair.

Hi Andy - I live in Australia and have been using VPN successfully to in play trade for about 2 years. However......
I have had a month off trading recently and went in to trade 2 days ago and my account was locked.
I’ve just got off the phone to Betfair Australia and they advised the account was locked due to the fact they identified a suspicious log in from overseas and wanted ensure it was me. Strange given I only ever log in via the VPN so not sure why they’ve only flagged this now.
The operator told me that I can use VPN but reminded me in no uncertain terms that it is a breach of T&C’s for me to use a VPN to circumvent in play betting legislation in Australia and they asked me to confirm I understood this.
I feel like my run has come to an end using VPN to trade in play. I suspect my account is flagged now and if I do it again they’ll shut me down.
I need to re-evaluate given many of my strategies rely on in-play trading. As another member pointed out you can still do it legally here by placing in play trades via phone call to Betfair however this is not always viable as odds can move significantly during the time it takes to place the call and execute with the operator.
I’m a bit shattered and need to go back to the drawing board due to a ridiculous archaic law.
Happy to help you with a VPN setup if you want to try your luck. Not sure if they flagged me due to routine check or if they are cracking down.

@andy-traph yeah mate, as a fellow Aussie you can only do stuff in play by actually ringing and placing your bet - trade you still can’t do it online live. It’s ridiculous but sadly doesn’t look like changing anytime soon.

@liam-willis yeah I think you may be right Liam, I just read this:
The Australian Interactive Gambling Act 2001 (IGA) makes it an offence to offer or advertise 'real money' online interactive gambling services to Australian residents.
Hmmm looks like there some adapting to be done.
May I ask for some suggestions and any ideas on ways around this, or the best way forward for trading on Betfair? I'm thinking along the lines of pre-game set and forget trades?

i could be wrong here but i think if you have an australian betfair account you cant use it for inplay bets/trades so im not sure if a vpn will help if it does cyberghost is good. i used my betfair account in australia no problem but cant remember if i had vpn on or not that was used for thailand. my betfair account is a british one so different rules.

Set yourself up a VPN in the country you want to live trade in. That should solve it.
