Just wondering if the strategy
“Laying the Dog (Richard's ELO Ratings Lays)” has picked back up since supporters have been allowed back. Wouldn’t mind trading some of the games with small stakes but haven’t really got any data, as I joined during the first lockdown, cheers
Martin was looking at it for a while but I left it behind ages ago.

@james-rome for me it's just the last check before placing the trades, I will bore everybody again but what has to happen is the Q I always ask at every stage...
So before entering if the assist makers and scorers aren't playing this changes things and I will just stay clear of it.

Fair play I may have focused too much on United’s problems and not enough on Leicester.
May be a goals bet is the way if neither team has any defenders
-
@andy-donnelly As a Leicester fan in shocking form with a lack of central defenders and also an injured Ndidi I would be making Man Utd strong favourites
-
I’m new to this thread but does anyone agree/disagree that Man Utd are a good lay opportunity this weekend?
- Not in great form pre international break
- Both first choice centre backs are injured
- Game just after international break and Utd have many more players than Leicester who are coming back late
Feel like the market is wary of Utds away form but 2.16-2.2 feels too short
-
How have South America been allowed to do this when everywhere else finished on Tuesday.
-
with this i am just woundering what people will do then regarding trades. i didnt realise brazil playing friday. so on my shg i have PSG as one but now realising this i will take them off. i was just woundering what more experianced traders will do will they just see how game goes or just steer clear
-
@darri completely agree with you there’s another international break next month then nothing until March.
However , there is the Africa Cup of Nations in Jan/Feb which is ridiculous. Liverpool in particular are going to be hit hard by this with the likes of Salah and Mane not being available for a month at least where they have little cover
-
Its amazing to think that next month there is yet another of these international breaks. Remember next year we have the world cup schedule being completely changed to fit it in. In some ways i agree with whats been said about doing the internationals in a set period of time, during a set winter break or during summer. These breaks are just a joke, i mean why are brazil playing a day before a weekend full of fixtures? I wonder if we will ever get this resolved. Its ruining my FPL team too Dont get me wrong iv enjoyed the scotland games but they could be played at better times, the way they work too is a joke for big teams, denmark havent even conceded all qualification yet. Hopefully one day these lot come up with a better way for all nations, comps and money, some sort of happy medium. Brazil game baffles me. I know us traders dont get factored in but if it was a condensed time period for set internationals could make it more tournament like and more trade worthy like the big comps.

@martin im meaning from a commercial point of view, the lure of premiership football and the potential to make club history.
With inter i dont see that as much, people would still rather be playing premiership football during their prime years than serie a. I like watching and trading serie a but its no competition to the prem both in quality or in terms of actually watching it. They won the champs league and have had a good season last year, but they wont be competing with any of the big four english sides this year. As i said tho i do think they are sleeping giants because any investment might change this.
Inter are a sleeping giant and a faster to "success" club than Newcastle but as a commercial deal Newcastle are potentially greater because of the prem and media attention this will bring. So therefore sleeping giant is still true, will take a few more years to get there with Newcastle. But again we go back to the city takeover the same could be said with them about comparing inters past success to theirs, like you want me to here, but again they are a sleeping giant as Manchester is a cracking location for all future commercial deals and city had a strong fanbase already. The premiership lure makes any team with a strong fanbase a potential giant. We have seen it with most takeovers of this size, this one is actually even greater given their wealth.
I like the fact you debated it and agree that in a pure historical data view that you cant compare the 2, but this isnt about winning titles in serie a or one off years in the champs league we are talking about sleeping giants who given the right investment could challenge every single year. Money wont always buy success, city still havent won the champs league but they now have a giant of a club and there is no reason a sleeping giant like Newcastle could not match that if they employ good recruitment and luck along the way. So i still stand by saying both are sleeping giants.
-
@darri not sure I concur that Inter are a sleeping giant when compared to Newcastle.
In my lifetime they have won 7 Serie A titles (currently defending champs), 4 Italian cups, 3 UEFA cups and the champions league!
now let's compare that with Newcastle...

@finn-kristensen Its gonna be an interesting next 10 years for football.
A tv rights fight between sky, BT/DAZN, amazon, potentially apple.
New owners wanting a piece of that pie, seeing smaller clubs as easy investments.
Even higher player prices? If profits rise with tv deals so too does FFP limits.
Clubs in the prem are only going up price as a result of media and sponsorships. Its time to get in. These guys arent fans of newcastle they are of football business tho. I mean the day after they bought newcastle they are then looking at inter. These to me look like sleeping giant clubs. Potentially low risk. Its also becoming too late to be making drastic changes. The prem made the decision the year i was born to make this league a financial juggernaut and its reaping those rewards now. But at what cost? Ticket prices are rising and making it even harder for working class. Streaming services are their only option now so etihad will continue to be under capacity. You cant now cap transfer spends or wages, change to fan ownerships models like germany etc. Its too late.
As soon as newcastle win something the serious side and the meme of how much money they have will just be a background noise. Its happened at chelsea, city and will happen at newcastle if they start to be a top 6 side again. Even listening to chris there, these people bring joy to the clubs they run especially if they not only improve on field stuff but off field too. Im sure city and manchester as a whole have benefitted from these owners. The prem have just not been strict enough and we can all argue against it but money wins, im 100% sure a super league with or without the english sides could still come to pass, especially if the money in the prem just outbids every other nation.
Its why im not fussed about it, im a celtic fan and while i support spurs i really have no ties to them other than my birthday treat one year was the 9-1 against wigan, which as a kid you just had to love. Even that team was pumped with money. Its just the way football is and id struggle to see any sort of new laws come in that will cap spending further or stop these guys getting in, i mean they are probably passing the same test just like any other owners, you cant just say no mate i know you passed but we dont want your billions. Im excited for newcastle and seeing who they buy you either get on board with money side of it or its just gonna make you grumpy for an extremely long time to come. How good has it been to see ronaldo (as a neutral) on MOTD, salah now wanting 500k a week etc. We wouldnt have these players without these guys. We have just got to accept it cause we never stopped it.
@Finn-Kristensen Celtic are a bigger club than brondby but i enjoy the fact we buy young players, develop them and watch them shine in the prem over the years. Scottish football is crap it cant compete but makes it all the better when we pull off the shocks. Romance in football however is dying and players are themselves businesses now and thats what clubs are actually buying. It doesnt bother me anymore. As long as i get to see the best players every week then at least i get some joy from it, even if it do agree with all thats been said and that this is bad for football.

@darri As a supporter of a small club (Brondby, Denmark), I hope my club will never be owned by a Middle Eastern prince or the like.
Sadly, as the supporter of a medium club, Newcastle, I share your sentiment.

@finn-kristensen Your not alone in that opinion

i understand the point of view but not all Foreign owners fall into the "money grabbing mercenary" category. You just have to look at my team Leicester to see how good things can be. Yes I'm biased and we are probably in the minority but there are positives.
Before being bought out by the King Power Group 10 years ago, we we're a club similar to Norwich or West Brom in stature and also status spending the occasional season in the Premier League but invariably being relegated the following season.
Since then however, we have won the Premier League and FA Cup both for the first time in our 130 years history. There are pictures around of the FA Cup win last season of Kun Top, Kun Vichai's sun with the FA Cup at Wembley and the interaction with the players and management team shows the respect and ppreciation from both sides.
Its not all been good there was the helicopter crash at the stadium immediately after we played West Ham live on BT which saw the passing of Kun Vichai - Top's father the original owner and without whom the last ten years wouldn't have been possible.
King Power aren't just involved in football, they are also successful in Horse Racing owning a number of winning racehorses under King Power racing. Alot of there horses are named with links to the football club
There is no doubt that King Power have been excellent (exemplary) owners of Leicester City FC and you have been very lucky to have them. I don't require that the owner of "my" club is not foreign, I just specifically don't want my club to be a tool for political/religious whitewashing. It comes with all sorts of moral/ethical issues that I can't support.
