Horse Racing Strategies Megathread
-
Hi Guys
Ive been experimenting with the software and testing a strategy I read about online a few years ago. The strategy was lay the 4th, 5th and 6th horse at odds of 9 to 11 if the first top 3 horses are odds of 6 or less. To cut a long story short I messed about with the rules and come up with a strategy I
m calling lay the 4th Fav. If the Odds are between 2.5 and 7. 10 sec`s before the official start time.I have run the results everyday (sometimes several times a day), for a month and getting the same result.
I`m sharing the strategy because I think I’m missing something as the results are to good to be real!! -
Ahhhh that makes sense, thanks for that Paul

@ryan-clark back C&D is looking for the selection to be 1st, 2nd or 3rd fave. These can change during the day right upto the start of the race. The qualifiers is a snapshot at the time you run the strategy.
The solution is to have two versions of each strategy a results one and a qualifying one. With the qualifying one you would remove the favourites and either don't trade if not fave 1/2/3 or have a bot make the selection for you.
When you look at other strategies you take the same approach for other criteria such as DSLR, number of runners, etc.
Hope this makes sense.

Hi,
I recently purchased the horse racing software and am loving it so far although I have found that for some systems, the results breakdown that I check the next day contain runners that were not on my qualifiers list for the day before... I am finding this most occurs on the Back C&D strategy.
Another issue is that the runners on my "upcoming qualifiers" sometimes do not match what is on the "Daily Qualifiers List".
Hope the above makes sense
I may be missing something or doing something incorrectly if anyone could shed any light on that?
Cheers

@john-folan Yes it seemed quite a simple process. At least its not just me if you have also tried and you are not having any joy now
thanks for the help

@john-folan Hi John, I only have 6 in presets. I wanted to import Wayne pace lays and your slow horse dob strategy. These 2 are not in my presets
It should just be a case of saving the files to your desktop then importing them into a strategy then. Not sure why it’s not working sorry. I just tried it with slow horses and had the same problem.

I am just trying to upload them to the BTC software. I am saving the files and trying to run them on the BTC software but when I upload nothing happens.
It either stays blank no rules etc are uploaded or the web page freezes.
You should find them under presets already in there.
-
It also comes up with change import strategy settings

@michael-bowler Hi Michael, what are you uploading them to? What software or program are you using?
-
Hi Apologies new to here.
I have followed the steps to uploading some of the strategies from the top of this thread. Nothing seems to upload when i import the strategy.
I have contacted the IT support to see if they can sort it out but no one has got back to me. I was wondering if anyone was having the same problems or if someone can point me in the right direction to getting it sorted.
Any help is welcome
thanks

@sean-fitzgerald 3%+ anything below 2% I don’t love (unless loads of selections per day)
I concur

A bit of a broad question here….
What do people consider a reasonable ROI when looking at a strategy?
Obviously anything positive is good but is there a point where you’d want to see it above a certain % to continue with a strat?
Understand this may differ from trader to trader but just curious.

could someone look over the strat and tell me if its ok? i think its viable but would like a second opinion, 2nd fave odds 5 to 8 and just looking for 10 ticks the software seems to think its profitable?
-
@nick-allan no sorry, I mean that sometimes the C&D strategy overlaps with eg Lay at Short Odds or something. I'm just letting them all play out to see what happens
-
@david-milligan i thought they were both backing strategies? is C&D a lay strategy?
-
@william-kidgell I don't have a strategy like that, there was a high odds backs one a while back.
Maybe ask in horse racing thread https://forum.betfairtradingcommunity.com/topic/1699/the-btc-horse-racing-thread
