I've been running a version of the 3rd Fav strategy as 3rd price rank at 10 mins before the official start time, this is the result for the past month. So even though you can't compare fully to the back test (it's about 30% off on selections) it still yields good results. It's still early days and I think my criteria is different to the BTC strategy.

Stay curious, stay relevant, stay humble, keep contributing and above all, be grateful. Peace out!

@Martin Understood, so in theory the software should really throw up an error message as those two specifics cannot work together.

@Martin Results are drastically different though although still very good but half the total points gained? When you say doesn't work, in what context? Thanks.

@Martin Listening to your podcast this morning walking the dog and thought I set up the Lay 3rd Fav on my bfbm and noticed its pre set to 10 seconds before start to place lays when you mention during the podcast it's 10 minutes, so not sure if you wanted to update the shared file. Love your Podcasts by the way bud.

@Daniel-Sawkins Hi Dan, I asked this question a couple of days back and was informed to back any that fit within the odds range, even that means only backing 1. I have done this as well and had success.

@Martin Thanks for the link. Can I ask do you know with Lay 1st & 2nd favs strategy, should the lays be placed only when both 1st and 2nd favs are within the odds range or should one lay be placed on it's own if only one horse is within odds range? Hope that makes sense. 👍🏻

Has anyone been keeping track of the results/data from the daily selections email? Seeing that those selections don't always match the software results.
Would be great to have it to compare the two to see if it balances out in the long run.

@Adam Thanks for clearing that up Adam.

So, Like Jonathan Says! If you could know how a horse will run before the off, we'd all be stinking rich!

@Neal-Simmonds said in Horse Racing Strategies Megathread:

Anyway, I've been working on a strategy to lay at the start in shorter distance racing (5 - 7f) and I need a better understanding of the 'Pace Letter'

So firstly: Who allocates the pace letter? Is it something we do here within BTC? and is a pace letter given retrospectively based on how a horse ran in its last race or is it a classification on how a horse normally runs?

We allocate the pace letter based on how the horse runs in that race. The pace rating is then based on the pace letter from the horse's previous 3 races. An "L" is worth 4 points, a "P" is worth 2 and an "H" is worth zero.

So if the horse had LLH in its last 3 races, the pace rating will be 8 (4+4+0).

@Jonathan-Jones Cheers Jonathan, I have found it confusing looking at the Pace History on the card which very often does not match what it says in the 'Horse Form Guide' - Shame as there's definitely a corelation there somewhere!

    @Neal-Simmonds
Pretty sure Pace letter is a retrospective (applied after the race) based on how the horse ran so you cant use it as a direct filter. You have to click the little icon to use it historically based on last runs. Using it as a filter directly is like asking it what horse is going to win the race before it starts. Be nice if we could do that but unfortunatly we cant.

Hey Gang! I've been a bit tardy when it comes to the 'Forum Threads' going to read up what's been going on & I already see I'm not the only one who's been struggling!

Anywho, I decided I need to be more active in the community you know, poke my nose in a bit when I can and keep abreast on the hot topics so, I'm now following this thread, other to follow.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me get to grips with this.
