Hi Joseph - I've parked the Back To Lay and Irish DOBS for now. I think they are potentially great strategies, but as I have to use BFBM I, like yourself, found that the BOT failed to place the Lay bet more often than not.
Don't really understand this, the bot I provided works fine for me in placing the lay bets. Are you using it? Or are you using one you made yourself?

Done some comparison of the software results vs the bots I am running on BFBM since 10 Aug (small sample size but something I intend to keep track of).
Main observations:
-
Back to Lay 2.0 - my bot missed the hedge on three bets that won, and then completely missed one bet that again won.
-
Lay Beaten Fav - my bot took one extra bet that had an entry of 3.05 so suspect to do with odds limits.
-
Lay Third Fav - didn't expect this to tally to be honest. My bot enters based on BSP so that's probably the main reason for variance.
Hope this is useful for anyone else trying to cross-check BFBM and the software.

I am thinking of a strategy that builds on some of the other profitable ones e.g. laying 3rd Fav or laying 1st/2nd fav but instead of laying it at the off, it will lay it In Running and try to get matched at say 75% of the price of the BSP (e.g. BSP is 5.0, it will lay at 4.0) - Wondering how many of those would get matched and would it boost the profits of the already profitable strats.
I can't seem to work out the parameters to set it to do this, is that kind of thing available yet and if not could this be a future feature request please?
I can see I can set it to hedge out at X% lower than the price I backed at but I don't actually want to place a back bet, just use the BSP as a reference point of where to set my lay at In Running... Hope that makes sense.
These are the options I can see (maybe I am looking in the wrong place) - only a fixed price is available to offer.

@Paul-Foster Thanks Paul, much appreciated, you're a gentleman and a scholar!
-
@Jonathan-West thanks for that, great to hear it is helping you! Seems like we are really nailing the horses at the moment. Long may it continue!
If using BSP in the strategy closer to the off the better for accuracy. We are working on a massive update to change that though.

Correct, we are betting on the 3rd fave at the off for the selected race.
-
If the age of the 3rd fave at the off is outside of the age criteria, we do not place the bet.
-
The software tells you qualiying races to bet on, not qualifying selections. Provided all other criteria is met, bet on the 3rd fave at the off in that race.
Thanks you nailed it!

@Martin Hi there. Thanks for all the time you and others have put into this thread. For a newbie to horse racing strategies like me, this is so useful.
I'm keen to to add B2L dobs and lay 3rd fav to my strategies, but having read through this thread I have a question. Am I right in understanding that the back testing results can only be relied on if the bet time is set to 10 seconds (rather than 10 minutes) due to the disparity between betfair's BSP and the software's BSP?
I'm sorry if I've misinterpreted the thread but I see there is quite a difference in back testing results if I change the times and I don't want to implement any strategy incorrectly.

Thanks Martin, another excellent video on the 3rd favourite. A couple of novice questions coming up:
-
Is the third favourite simply the horse that has the third shortest odds at the off?
-
Presumably the software picks the horse based on age etc but it doesn't know if the horse is going to be third fav on the day, or does it?
-
If the horse with the third shortest odds at the off isn't one of the horses named by the software, presumably we give it a miss, even if it is the correct age etc?
Sorry for the bone questions, as I said a day or so ago, I'm still getting my head round horse racing strategies.

@dave-tancock I don't know the asnwer best bet would be to ask their support or here: https://forum.betfairtradingcommunity.com/topic/4020/bet-angel-automation-thread

If I’m looking to create a dobbing/Irish dobbing bot on betangel. How do I create the second trade (lay) to activate st the desired price point. I can tweak an existing bot to back horses at certain odds/time before race it’s just the additional bit I’m unsure on. Any suggestions would be appreciated
-
@Alastair-Todd have you activated the strategy (clicked the button to green)?

Hi Martin, I'm not sure if this is the correct (up-to-date) thread for this but I've just imported the Back to Lay DOB strategy which you did a great video on the other day. However, I don't seem to be getting any runners when I select the 'upcoming qualifiers' tab. Now, of course that might mean that there haven't been any for two days but my screen looks like something perhaps isn't loading correctly. Any thoughts?
-
@Jonathan-Jones I'm 33 points up on 3rd fav from 1st August. I did tweak course(s) though. It was either Salisbury i removed or the 4/5 that were negative in back testing.
A few missed due to human error etc but i think it would be more profit if i'd been 100% accurate rather than lower.
2/2 today at Brighton.
I'm using Bet angel on Betdaq though.
Edit - More than i thought i'd removed.

@Martin by OP do you mean the one at the top of this thread? Sorry it’s probably a daft question.
Yep. Original Post. I wouldn’t worry I only worked that one out recently
