@chris-osborne @Stuart-Capstick There's a podcast called The Price of Football and they mentioned this. Apparently the Government agreed to give National League clubs money as a grant but then turned round and said it's a loan. Clubs like Dover have said if it's a loan they won't be able to pay it back so would rather void the season and put everyone on furlough. It's a really good podcast and would recommend it. It's twice a week and every Monday is the "news podcast" and they mention stuff like this. Also consider some lower league teams have had to furlough training ground staff so some of the pitches might not be as perfect as normal.
Another bit of news which has mostly gone under the radar. UEFA have created a 3rd club competition called Europa Conference League and it's starting next season. Possible repercussions of that would be doing away with the League Cup, no FA Cup replays and reducing the PL to 18 teams.
I believe the government told the national league it was a grant not a loan from the outset but that information never got passed onto the clubs. All clubs were given equal amounts of money by the national league and then teams in the conference south who normally get 300( Hungerford) had the same income as Dulwich Hamlett who average 3000. -

@stuart-capstick Thanks Stuart, appreciate you taking the time to look and answer

Hi Matt. I looked through the data (think I have posted best and worst P/L per month). Europa League is fine around now. The time to be careful is July/August- qualifiers with teams travelling to,say, Azerbaijan with barely any pre-season and drawing against theoretically inferior opposition.
If a game had come up today, I'd be on it. I'll be trading a few tonight for sure (e.g Milan has to win, Leverkusen etc). -
@stuart-capstick Thanks Stuart. I'm doing some work at the moment looking at the impact of fitness, consecutive big games come into this .. how many games within a short period can teams maintain the performance levels .. managers, even at the top level have to pick and choose/prioritise games to maintain competitiveness for the biggest games.
-
Morning Stuart, all good I hope.
The Europa performs well with this but how do you play the 2nd leg of games (todays) would you ignore it if the tie is all but over? Nothing qualifies for today odds wise but was just curious how you treated the 2nd legs in two legged games.
-
No need for any guilt at all, Mark. The National had been doing well up to last night. I was pleased to have my prejudices challenged. One result is nothing.
There are two main variables here: league and price. The game last night satisfied both.
-
@stuart-capstick feel guilty for saying don't ignore the National League.. Think Eastleigh had two really tough games prior.. against Stockport and Hartlepool and big results in space of a few days - always those tricky fixtures after the couple of big ones. Kings Lynn played last night and battered Barnet. Its only Dover.. don't get me started on their owner @_£@&_ expletives
-
That (Europa Conference League) could be a goldmine for traders.

@stuart-capstick I'm sure its a short term thing with no fans etc, it was a debate they we're having on there BT Score show Saturday afternoon. I forgot about it until just now or would have posted.
I stopped the NAtional League on this strategy a while ago whilst limiting myself to games with odds around 4's and below. May miss out on a few units profit but its the higher liability I want to avoid
-
@chris-osborne
Interesting, Chris. There's nothing about that on flashscore etc. I would have thought this evening Eastleigh were motivated as they are pushing for promotion.
Oddly enough I badmouthed this league earlier and another poster showed that, in fact, it had been performing very well.Remember, people, this one is for the long term. There is a bit of a trough this month but January was very good. I know I sound like a broken record but I really hope nobody is overstaking on this one (or any other strategy come to that).
-
@stuart-capstick As I understand it from BT Sports over the weekend, there is no relegation from the National League which brings into question motivation.
Also some teams - Kings Lynn, Dover etc with nothing to play for are considering not fulfilling there fixtures as without fans, they only have a couple of weeks money left before going into Receivership and costs them more to stage games than not.
