The road to full time

@matt-wood I know this isnt trading and i promise ill keep this convo going privately, but i just wanted to say thanks so much mate. That cheat sheet you sent me with regards to the shoulders and this training plan massively changed how my body coped. In fact i actually did less than usual built up to 100% effort for a couple of balls and then stopped. Felt like i had actually managed to work on everything i needed in a far more controlled and sustainable level. Of course early season and being away for a while means ill have the body niggles and soreness as it gets slowly adapts. Going into Saturday with a better feeling. Thought it would end up being a few games and nets before i was back to a consistent level but straight away within 20 mins i was feeling happy with what i was doing and able to achieve. definitely doing this as a warmup on Saturdays instead of what we normally do just until i feel safe with the shoulders.
Got the diet plan ready to implement, first game of season on saturday, mindset and mood is so much better. Just wanted to say thanks and for the behind the scenes extra sheet you gave, legend thanks
Promise ill get this blog on trading again just got that new season kid at xmas vibe right now, it'll wear off mid season

@darri Feel free to ask as much as you like. After all the help you have given me trading its the least I can do.
Niggles are ok as long as you understand how to 'listen' to them. If you ignore the wrong one it could lead to an injury that is problematic.
I have almost zero knowledge about cricket but just looking at a fast bowler with the knowledge I do have from strength and conditioning, it makes me cringe a little The stresses on joints and small muscles are huge. But no reason why someone cannot build their body up to tolerate it all.
Dont underestimate a good diet as well. So easy to overlook this but you are literally what you eat. So if you want a healthy body you need to feed it good quality fuel. Put crap fuel in and yes it will work, but it will also break down loads more easily.
The resistance band will let you do tons of stuff for your shoulders, but the same as before start slow and build it up over time.
-
@matt-wood dont be silly lad, this info is vital for me, just ordered a resistance band. Quite honestly everything else seems fine just the shoulders so what you have said is perfect, thanks mate! I have training tomorrow and will do a plan like you said in terms of effort. I get injured/niggles a lot with cricket so sorry if i pester you over this summer its not injuries just niggles over the season that im sure can be managed better than i normally do, fast bowling is a nightmare on the body
-
@darri Yep been there and done that loads myself.
The rotator cuff is a group of small muscles that are responsible for internal and external rotation of your arm at the shoulder. They also play a role in stabilising the joint during movement. Because they are muscles they will get stronger and more durable with use so they will get better over time. The big problem with them is they are tiny little muscles so its very easy to overdo the loads they take. I used to hate treating shoulders as there is soooo much stuff in there that can go wrong.
Im not sure how many balls you would deliver in a typical training session, I would suggest something like using a ramping system of effort for the first 10% of your deliveries. Starting at about 50% effort and building to around 90%. Then maybe after you are 15-20% into your session consider 100% effort. Listen to your body though, if you feel good max effort is fine. If something feels tight or 'off' keep bowling slightly under max until it warms up.
To help the recovery time there are a few good little things you can do every day. If you have a broom handle or such thing hold it out infront of you with your hands about double shoulder width apart. Without adjusting your grip take the handle over your head and down as low behind you as you can. Do this 5 or 6 times then again wihtout adjusting the grip start from in front of you again and take one hand up and across your body over your head, the other hand will have to follow along in a circular kind of motion. repeat in the opposite direction. 5 or 6 times for both.
Also if you have a resistance band fix one end to a hard point then hold the other end in one hand, elbow fixed at your side and with a 90 degree bend. pull against the band (band should be in front of you going left to right) rotating your arm externally, kinda like you were thumbing for a lift. Keep you elbow fixed to your side though.
Sorry for the crappy explanations, hard to write it out, could show you in 20secs in person haha.
Diet wise make sure you get some omega 3s. Living where you do I would imagine you got easy access to loads of fresh fish. If you like it then go for salmon, mackerel, sardines, trout. Get sea or line caught if you can, the farmed stuff is not good.
Happy to help in more detail if you ever need/want it. Sorry for cloggin up your blog though.

@matt-wood last Thursday we had a nets session, i was sore and stiff all weekend, in a way good the rain came. Thats because i overdid it, first day back lets bowl as fast as i can and as much as i can to get consistency back. Paid for it and could have done alot of damage.
This week i remembered your post and made sure i tried to build it progressively. My shoulder is still stiff and sore from training just yesterday and could be because of last week. As fast bowler its my rotator cuff that gets alot of action. Is that a thing that rebuilds over time, so say i train hard on a Tuesday and then a softer one on Thursday am i giving it enough time to heal back? Or does it not matter and its will just be because its been a while since i played so body getting used to it all again?
Im not exactly old but i cant just turn up to something now and not expect to be tested physically, used to be able to bowl all day almost everyday, used to train mon, tues and thurs then games on sat and sun. So not sure why its a harsher change for me just a few years later.

@darri Great stuff Darri, nothing like some shiny new kit to get your enthusiasm firing
Got to take time to do things that we enjoy as, like you said, it keeps us mentally in balance and healthy.
Ease into the cricket, we have all spent ages sitting around and doing nothing so our bodies have gotten soft. I think somewhere a while back on here i read you were primarily a bowler. Keep those shoulders healthy! You dont want an injury in the first few months of playing. Also I would imagine (not being a player or fan of cricket, purely from a fitness, strength and conditioning pov) you will need to keep your lead (or plant foot/leg, not sure of the correct terminology) knee and ankle in good shape as they wont be used to the stresses and impact for a little while.
Always good to keep in mind, connective tissues (ligaments and tendons) are usually around 6months behind muscles in strength and endurance. These are the places that get injured most easily in highly dynamic sports (bowling being such a thing, fast bowlers even more so I would imagine).
Hopefully the lovely weather in the UK will let you get some playing time in

No LTDs past few days, SHG (filter onlys) doesnt look like anything until tomorrow with them. So quiet week ahead. Could get involved in a few hand picked games like normal but actually got alot on this week. For the past year not having cricket during week and then at weekends been good handpicking games and profiting from them over long term. But like iv said trying to move this away from being a main source of income and just a passive one.
Getting more involved with my cricket club and training well is my goals this year. Having a couple of passive income streams is allowing me to do that. This whole decision seems to be having such a positive impact on me mentally and physically. Being able to focus on the things i enjoy and in the background having these streams of income build and snowball in background, with very little effort or input If your a long time reader/follower its such a big change.
My cricket kit just got delivered for the season and now my flat smells like a sports direct shop hopefully able to post a few trades as the week goes on
-
@darri great read can relate
-
No LTDs to post for tomorrow, been a good start to them since iv been posting interested to see the summer leagues pop up for them and how well they cope.
Hope so cause just spent almost Ā£300 on new kit for the season, Still looking for a bat also which is double

I know some people view the sheets but just wanted to show where everything is at given its mid way through month.Really up and down month, partly due to my SHG/Late dip. Everything else is ticking along nicely and looking good. So it may seems very coincidental that i make a tweak on the back of a few losses on the SHGs. Or if you truly understand trading the trading gods always tend to give you a rough patch right when you start to spot a tweak your away to implement.
Before iv been using SHG both with and without filters. Did well last month but my match selection has been below par this month. However like i advised on this blog track the games you planned that could be filter only or you hand picking potentials. Then track them see what is working. According to my data id be well up if i had just stuck to filter only trading. Something over the last 2 years that hasnt been the case, normally every month iv beaten the filter only with good match selections. The real reason iv been tracking tho is because iv made several changes to my own filters.
These tweaks im now massively getting behind. Iv not been this excited before. For ages now iv been trading quite intensely to maximise every single trade and make sure every game is a good one. These tweaks seem to outperform my previous stuff. The stuff that actually got me full time and a 20k bank!
Now the plan going forward is SHG (new tweak), LTD, Cricket and then selective FHGs and outrights when spotted. Now iv left an "others sheet for some of the mixed strats just to save space. I like to keep everything neat. So ill still be doing champs league, europa and the internationals, but they will now be lowered in staking and seen as bonuses by being put in the others category.
An exciting stage of my trading. Getting this to such an efficient stage in the first 5 months of really ramping that idea up is a great stage. Screen time is down, trades will now be less, profits will still be good but looking less volatile and more consistent, the main thing is tho im now thinking less about the trade. This whole blog tells you how to find the good trades yet here's me telling you im building things to move on from that. That is were i love this. Because before i was always optimising and being greedy for profits. It worked and quite honestly its the only reason im at this level of trading. Id do it all over again. Ill never stop telling people or advising them to do what iv always spoke about. You learn everything you need, when you take this a bit more detailed. But im making this far more passive, for me im too ambitious and excited to venture into other things. There are family men and women who would love to do this and only this. Then if that is you follow my advice on the blog.
However i am at a new stage of trading and my development keeps going. Looking forward to sharing this new stage. Efficiency s key for me now. Wanting to be more active with video work and cricket. Im using the betfair profits for other passive incomes. Its just such a cool stage. Made huge changes in the last 2 years more so in just the last 5 months, keep this efficiency idea going and cant wait to see where we are end of year. That Ā£10k target trading bank is well within reach if this new data sticks by end of this year.
I feel like this post is just a building block/foundation for some pretty cool changes to my overall trading. Its rich i know for me to be profitable and be saying im making changes, but im making changes because its not sustainable long term for my lifestyle. Its good money yes, but i can see the draining of it affecting me mentally so the more i veer towards a set and forget approach to strats the better. Ill keep posting my trades nothing in that changes just my actual strategy is changing and how im more reliant on stats and data even more now, with less of my own input.
Theres spelling mistakes in here but its late and busy tomorrow so wanted to just post this now so people can get a chance to read it before the improved SHGs pop up

btw glad people liked the post from 4 days ago, i do try to not make this a personal journal by trying to make everything relate to trading. Glad that it worked. glad its resonated with a few guys and few new faces interacting with it
-
@daniel-cooper a shame for all the spelling errors tho, did this when i was looking at something else, minds been over excited about being back to cricket
-
@darri said in The road to full time:
@daniel-cooper i can easily say how to avoid etc it will resonate but might just be words youll forget about next time this happens. What i did and how i maaged to stop doing it. On your results sheets, add another column, if you pick a game not originally on your list put a NO next to it in that column. This could be a fomo moment, a red mist trade or a game thats on tv you fancied. Then end of month see how that compares top your original games. For me i did this for 5 months. Over that period my original trades always made more money and in some months i made a red on the NO list. So now i just literally dont do them because i know its a waste of time, effort and money. That is because as a gambler im god damn useless but as a trader im not too bad i guess
This is GOLDEN, Iām gonna dedicate some space to this, this is genius! Brilliant idea, I think it will be very telling!!!
