Horse Racing Strategies Megathread

So i've created my own basic strategy just testing out the software looking for a decent back to lay method. Can anyone help me refine or give advice on it. I am mainly just looking for decent daily selections to trade manually but would be nice if I could automate in the future. This one is only profitable if I add around a 15 to 20 second window to trade in play or if I add a stop loss. Not sure why it would not work as a DOB.

@samo
https://www.youtube.com/@betyourlife is a great resource for learning automation in Fairbot. I havnt used the files on this forum but in general to import stuff into Fairbot its tools menu - Strategy editor. That brings up the strategy editor window. Then on that window its File - Import Strategy (you need to save the strategy once its imported).
In general with fairbot its always a good idea to have a race of that type open otherwise some event type specific stuff might not show correctly.

@samo which automation service are you using? post the question in the thread for that provider:, you can find the index here: https://forum.betfairtradingcommunity.com/topic/4078/automation-trading-bots-index
Just seen you are using fairbot so you will want to ask in this thread: https://forum.betfairtradingcommunity.com/topic/3923/fairbot-automation-discussion

"I know it's not part of your software but I wondered if @Martin or @Adam could do a video or even get the automation software person to do one for BTC?"
I agree. I can usually get my head around stuff like that but I've had to put automation on the back burner for now. It would be great if one of the pro's in here could do an over-the-shoulder video on automation.
I must be missing a trick somewhere, but if I can't get this sorted, I may as well downgrade my account to football only. Shame, I'd love to get some horse racing automated. That would allow me to study BF more, to take it to the next level.
I have been trying for 4 weeks as well!! Not great, Old Fart New Technology, I can get it all downloaded it just does not do any bets!!
if anyone is interested in doing this PM me

@jonathan-jones I totally agree, I often have multiple actions to take on a horse, backs and or lays at different odds and I do them all to get as true a result as possible for each strategy.
Which software do you use to automate? I use Bet Angel but I just can't figure out how to have multiple automations on each race or have more than 2 runners per automation rule. I'm open to trying different software if recommended.

what i do emily is basically open more than one guardian, so i have 3 staregies and they overlap races so i set one guardian page for each startegy so i have 3 guardain windows running at any time and they fire perfectly. To get additional windows just click the betangel shortcut

@emily-knowles I use fairbot. In Fairbot you can only have one fairbot stategy file per race. You can have as many rules as you want in that file though and multiple rules (backs, lays each with its odds or other conditions etc) for each horse. Problem of course would be you would need to manually create those files for each race or use multiple instances of Fairbot if you wanted to create generic strategies enabling you to sort of apply multiple strategy files to each race.
I get round it a different way. I have written a small app that reads the qualifiers csv file then uses templates to dynamically create a fairbot strategy file for each race of that day. Takes me about 5 mins in total to set up a full days racing.

Thank you @Richard-Coxon & @Tony-Hastie I'll check it out

@emily-knowles I posted answers to this in the Bet Angel automation thread a couple of days ago and posted an example file this morning for William .. if you want any help just message me.
EDIT - haa haa I see Tony just pointed you at it Grat minds and all that
-
@emily-knowles There was a good explanation on how to have mutiple automations on one race on the BA automation thread

Evening All,
Is there anywhere that shows me what the various horse racing filters mean and roughly how they are derived, in particular things like pace rating and how does that differ from pace letter
Many thanksPace letter is assigned after the race, either L (Led), P (Prominent) or H (Held Up).
Pace rating is compiled from the horse's previous 3 races. A points value is assigned based on the pace letters from those races. L = 4, P = 2, H = 0.
So if a horse's last 3 pace tags are LPP, its pace rating for the upcoming race will be 8.

Hello, I'm a big newbie to Horse racing in general so this could be a stupid question but how have the strategy filters had two picks from the same race and the same horse both backing and laying, also two selections in one strategy in the same race? An example of this is the Haydock at 16:10 with 'no cruise yet' being a selection for both the pace lays and Back the course and distance winner. How can this be the case? how would people advise you to proceed if you're trying to follow?
Also, the Haydock 16:10 also has a fortified bay as a selection, however unlikely to reach the desired odds range but would you just lay both horses in the same race if it did?John, they are different strategies, so are looking for different things in the race. It is upto you to do your own due diligence if you follow both strategies or leave the race alone. You pays your money you takes your chance!

@caroline Hi Caroline.
I don't know all the answers as I'm still learning myself, but when you go into the horse racing software, on the right, there is an icon of a camera and if you click it, it'll take you here,...It's got lots of training videos about it.
