Aiming for my financial freedom using the horse markets
-
Hi. This is my journey from a small trader to someone that can support myself on gambling, which is a life I love. I'm will try to be clear and open with what and how I'm doing. It all started back in 2016 when I lost my business. Since then I have dedicated my time 24/7 to this. Of course, I lost money in the beginning - like for two years. More in the beginning and less towards the end. Since last summer I have gone the other way, making instead of losing.
The trick for me was to get in control of my mind, I was too impatient, not structured enough, bad at handling losses and took one chance too many time and again. I'm much better now, and I have a steady plan for moving forward. This thread will help to keep me on track. So here we go...
My Goal
Get my bank up to a level so that I can take money out every month without decreasing it.Starting point
25/08/2018 - My bank started at £250
I was not a member back then, but it was still a part of this journey so I'm going to include it. I will note down the progress beneath.Current standing
24/01/2019 - After five months my bank is now £892. This is an increase of 357% or 28.9% monthly.
My plan was to be at £1,121 so currently behind with -26.3%.Planned route
I have a goal to increase my bank with 35% each month.
I'm not going to worry about each individual race, or day, or even week. I found myself doing worse by focusing on short time results.Type Of Trades
I do DOBs, outright Wins, I lay the favourite and I do pre-trades a few minutes before the off.Tools Of The Trade
I used Bet Angel for two years, but not any more. I found it is ok to trade straight into the program, and I want to learn to do without them and avoid the premium charge whenever I get that far.
For data, I'm using GeeGeez paid gold subscription, Patterform and Timeform free version. Whenever I have a need of big data chunks, I have used a freelancer in Vietnam, which I found on Freelancer.com, to scrape and wash. I used him twice so far. -
I'm currently working hard to finishing my private tool for scraping stats off the internet. I will resume my trading in a few days.

Nice DOB. Maybe you could put your daily stuff in the horse racing thread and some of your logic behind selections.
Thanks

The one that is clear to me now is at Plumpton 15:40, Seaweed. I will DOB 4pt, and WIN 2pt. All at BSP.
I'm also interested in Younoso at Musselburgh 14:50, but I want it to go over 3.00 in odds.
I will maybe lay the favourite in races 15:10 and 16:45 at Plumpton.Result
Seaweed steamed to BSP 2.67. I don't do horses under 3.00, so no bet.
Younoso BSP 2.70, no bet.
The favourite in 15:10, Duc De Beauchene was BSP of 3.92. I don't lay the favourite under 4.00, so no bet.
The favourite in 16:45, At First Light was BSP of 3.03. No bet.So Today was no-bet-day. That's ok. I rather do no-bet then wrong-bet.

I'm taking this from my memory now, I think it was like a 5-6% on the stake, and it was low odds place bets. I have it on a hard drive or USB stick somewhere, I did it when I was in the US last spring. Got to search for it.

@pontus-kylberg
Hey buddy,
Yes anything profitable, hmm interesting - how profitable? If it collides with what you are doing I am sure some of the guys on here would potentially be up for helping so that you can have it worked on while you focus on the others, a few years back we all worked on a Pace Project collectively and it became very profitable.
-
Ok, help a poor Swede out here. When you say "did it throw anything up?", do you mean like, did it prove to be profitable? If so, yes. But it also collided with what I'm doing now, so I put it on the backburner. I will take it out again and look at it to see what kind of results I had.
Thank you for the Massey site. I will certainly spend some time there.

@pontus-kylberg
Firstly, on the losing days thing great to see that you are thinking longer term. I moved into even longer term thinking than you over the last few years I am now by the quarter. It's enabled me to be really calm and un attached to my trading.
Wow that's interesting - did it throw anything up?
Have you seen this site....
-
Thank you! Really. It's kind of lonely here in Sweden for sports traders. I know of two others, but no one I can connect with. I only have my gf to talk with, and she is not really interested in numbers, so coming out and getting response from you all means so much.
The details are what's giving me focus and calm. Whenever I get a red trade, or like yesterday when the whole day ends in red after 10-11 hours of work, and I'm all frustrated and deflated, I just take a step back and look at the big picture. And I go "Hmmm... wait a minute, I'm still 9% up this month so far." and that makes the world to me.
I scraped two years of races (250,000 in total I think it was) from AtTheRaces and Timeform. It was a project to see if I could find an angel for Place and Win within certain price ranges by combining the two sites. I think I paid 250 Euros for the first year, and then 50 for every year after that, 600 in total. Next time I use a programmer, I'm going for an interactive database where I can automatically import all the necessary things in the morning, set it up as I want it, update the odds, and finally import the results. I'm going to use my earnings into that project.
Now I'm taking the rest of the day off from trading. Back on Sunday.

@pontus-kylberg I love the detail in this post buddy, I love it!
Looks like even though you are behind on the goals you are still doing really well. Interesting what data you have scraped? I had the time form results sent to me daily I think guys like @Charles-Cartwright will enjoy this thread
