Trading Q and A Megathread Ask Us Anything!

@gaz-hutchinson I don't trade this one myself but the idea is to enter at KO, just be aware it is quite high risk in terms of staking.
best thing to do is record your results on a separate sheet with the 'match reading' see if in the long term it would be more profitable.
I generally stick to my plan but can go off script if I'm sure it's the right thing to do, practice and experience help with this.

@martin-futter and @Ryan-Carruthers
I have just finished the BTC Academy, also been paper trading LTD strategy - which is essentially the same as Ryan's LTD at kick off (Betgreen). Started "real" trading over the weekend. I have a couple of questions after my first few days of real trading - with minimum £2 stakes on Betfair.
Firstly do you enter at kick off - it is called LTD at Kick Off - but I have been waiting and assessing after 10 -15 minutes. Just seeing how the game looks compared to pre match expectations. Do you guys do this or get in straight away?
Waiting 10-15 minutes, or even 20-25 depending on the action (or lack of it) seems to work for me so far although only a handful of games.Secondly, I've been very disciplined on cashing out either on first goal, if favourite scores first, or waiting for some green if underdog scores first and then taking that green. That's worked great when in a couple of games the underdog scored a 2nd goal! I also cash out on 70 minutes if necessary and take the loss.
So far it's worked very well. But there were a couple of games that my natural instinct was to stay in beyond a pre planned exit point to improve my profit, or scratch/turn around my loss. This was due to how I thought the match would go based on in play/live stats. Both times I would have made a lot more green, but hard to tell if this is luck or brilliant match reading - ha ha! I didn't stay in, I was disciplined and stuck to the pre match plan. But monitored what happened next out of interest.
Do you guys ever stay in beyond a pre planned exit point if you think a match will go the right way for you? or do you always exit as planned?
I'm sticking to 100% discipline on implementing the strategies at the moment, but I was wondering if you ever stay longer than pre match exit points based on in play stats?

@martin-futter
Ok - as I said I haven't used a forum before - so I don't know how to post privately either - doh!Anyhow I'll post here unless you let me know a better place.

How many selections are you getting with this?
A: Varies, sometimes 1 or 2 a day but up to 7 or 8 a day so i can't watch them all, several overlap, or I'm just not free to monitor all the games
Hard to give figures on this, maybe just watch a few and work out some averages from there?
A: Yep, probably a good idea, I'll just watch the ones I can and get some solid data on those.
So work out your average loss per losing trade and average win per winning trade, combine that with your strike rate and that is your formula to see if it is profitable without following every game.
A: OK, I understand - thanks!

@gaz-hutchinson if you would prefer to post privately then you can use your private section but if not then this thread is fine for posting on

I am currently testing my first strategy and not able to watch/follow all the games live. In order to try and see what profit/loss my strategy would make, Is there any way of knowing what happened to the odds after a goal is scored?
eg. I'm using LTD at kick off strategy so my initial entry odds is a known figure. also I know the odds on the pre match favourite. Say LTD @4.0. fav @1.70 for example. If the favourite scores on x minutes, or the underdog, is there any way of knowing what happens to the Draw odds? Or if underdog scores first? I'm hoping someone may have experience or a method of working it out, even if it's a ball park figure just while testing - or is it not possible?
I can't see any information on Betfair or elsewhere as to what happened to odds during a match that's already finished.
Obviously once I'm actually trading I'll be watching/monitoring live so this is just for the testing stage.
Otherwise I'm not sure if my strategy will be profitable. It has a good strike rate, ie favourites scoring first, or scoring 2nd and then going ahead, and also before 70 mins which is my stop/loss point (or Draw odds 2.0).
Maybe that is all I need to know to start trading - once I've tested enough games? I'd be really interested to know what you experienced guys do?

I know I'm asking a lot of questions at the moment but my head's buzzing with everything - in a really good way!
I have never used a forum before and I might be posting some of these questions in the wrong place - so please let me know if there are more appropriate places I should be posting my questions? I'm using this Megathread because Ryan mentioned it in the welcome video - so I know for sure it will get looked at :grinning_face:

Hi, I am setting up filters today to get my head around exactly how they work, and that I understand the criteria - and I think I need a lesson or some help with what some of the filters mean. There may be an index somewhere but I can't find one, so apologies if there is a breakdown of what the criteria actually mean. I understand most, but some are a leaving me scratching my head as to their exact meaning.
This is a bit lengthy but I can summarize briefly
-
Why are the odds in my Filter Ov. FT Over 2.5 Odds different to Betfair odds? Perhaps it is a calculation the BTC Stats software is doing based on chosen number of matches (5, 10 or 20)?
-
When I add the filter Betfair O2.5 Odds>=1.1 it excluded nearly all games, apart from 2, even though for this market Betfair odds are obviously all over 1.1. Is this filter based on £ amount matched? I can't think of any reason it would cut all the other games out?
-
Should I be selecting the filter "Restrict to same opposition type". It sounds like this will just include matches from the same league? If so I definitely want to select this!
Lengthy detail...
- I notice from checking with Betfair that odds in my filter are sometimes miles apart from the actual Betfair odds. Can you confirm I'm doing this right and if I am why are odds so different?
eg. I have this filter on La Liga to select all upcoming La Liga games in the Over 2.5 Goals Market with odds over 1.1.
Ov. FT Over 2.5 Odds>=1.1
This was to just to see if it pulled in all this weekend's La Liga games for Over 2.5 goals which it did. However the odds are not the same as Betfair.
Are the odds in this filter, odds that BTC has predicted based on my chosen number of games (last 5, last 10, last 20)?
Some are much higher, some much lower, than Betfair with no obvious pattern.
I just picked the first 4 selections so you can see how far apart they are!
Levante v Valencia BTC O2.5 Odds 2.50
Betfair Actual odds 1.98Alaves v Cadiz BTC O2.5 Odds 2.0
Betfair Actual Odds 2.74Real Madrid v Elche BTC O2.5 Odds 2.0
Betfair Actual Odds 1.61Osasuna v Valladolid BTC O2.5 Odds 3.33
Betfair Actual Odds 2.56- Secondly, when I add the Betfair Odds filter:
Betfair O2.5 Odds>=1.1 it only brings up 2 matches for some reason, all the others are not chosen.

@chris-osborne Thanks Chris. I think you are right. Early doors for me right now so I'll get my head around the basics, work on my first strategy or strategies and test them properly. When I get into serious trading I'll be going for Bet Angel from what I've seen and heard.
-
@gary-tunnicliffe Thanks for the advice Gary, it's very early days for me so I think I'll get Bet Angel once I've got to grips with the basics, and got my first system(s) more clearly defined. Once I start to trade seriously I'll definitely go for Bet Angel. Anything to make life easier, and the more green I can squeeze out the better!
-
@gaz-hutchinson I don’t think it’s necessary at your stage of trading, I would learn and understand the basics first.
I’ve been with btc since last May and don’t use it yet although am thinking about it.
Good luck
-
@gaz-hutchinson IMO betangel professional for £12.50 pcm is worth every penny it can settle bets and place bets faster and more efficiently than you can on the main betfair platform usually greening up for more that the betfair on screen offer. just that edge / advantage on its own is great but all the other bells and whistles are endless really. but its not for everyone.
-
I'm a new member and am working through BTC Academy. Very early on in the training Martin is using trading software (Bet Angel etc) and says this is what everyone uses to make trading easier and quicker.
As a newbie should I start on Betfair just using their normal website to trade, or start off with Bet Angel - or other -trading software. I must admit it looked pretty mind boggling on the video I just watched - ha!
-
@martin-futter Cheers Martin - Re:
"having profit on a 1.2 shot and no loss on the other outcome will cash most of the time."
Not 100% sure what that means - maybe it's me :grinning_face: but is there a word or two missing?!
Also did I post my question correctly - ie by using "Reply" button top right of this screen? The one next to Posts and Views Totals. I haven't used forums before and that was the only way I could see to add a new question!
-
@ryan-carruthers Thanks for the reply, I thought it through and sort of came up with the right answer - it was the lack of a "cash out" button that threw me and I was guessing that the tiny £0.02 profit was the reason. Anyway I was pleased the method worked exactly as you described and I could have done it all day with bigger stakes as in your video and made a nice profit.
Just one point, it took a while for each order to be taken - even using £2 stakes - so do you just check back every now and then to make sure it's taken and place the next trade? If so how often - I don't have enough knowledge to know how long it usually takes to get matched in this strategy? Or do you watch the screen until trades are taken?
When I get a bigger bank this strategy will definitely be something I do all the time when I see the right opportunities. :grinning_face:
-
@gaz-hutchinson Hey buddy,
Yes as M says it would be that the profit will be left on Man City - what I tend to do on these is I keep rinsing and repeating again and again then before the match I will usually move some of the green across all outcomes - dependant on the team - I mean in this one, I'd probs leave it on City.
-
@gaz-hutchinson it will be because of the small amount but to be honest having profit on a 1.2 shot and no loss on the other outcome will cash most of the time.
-
Hi, Brand new to BTC yesterday and I'm not even sure how to use a forum (!). This is my first question on the forum and hope this is correct, but please let me know if not.
Ryan's BTC welcome/ intro video said I should ask any questions in this mega thread but I couldn't see how to ask a question, there's nothing obvious that says "Ask a question" only "Reply" to existing posts. (Be kind I haven't done this before!).
My question relates to the "up a tick down a tick" pre match scalping strategy.
I just tried it using £2 stakes on Man City v Southampton tonight and sure enough it worked. I've now got my profit of £0.02 showing on Man City. However this shows as £0.02 green on the Man City, and £0.00 green on Draw and on Southampton.
Obviously it doesn't matter for a £0.02 practice trade. But if I was trading this "properly" do I need to cash out or do something else to ensure I take my profit? There is no cash out button, maybe because it's too small an amount or maybe because I'm reading this wrong and I don't need to cash out?
So am I reading it wrong and in fact I have made this £0.02 and will be paid even if the match ends in a draw, or Southampton win? It looks to me like I get £0.02 if City win and £0.00 if there is a draw or Southampton win.
Maybe obvious but it's confusing me!

Morning, I've read Trading in the Zone a couple of times, can you recommend some other good trading reads pls? There are so many titles out there, thanks
