So bit of a weird one…

I run a trade out-strategy which aims to pick up 10 ticks and places a back bet before the off. The lay is subsequently placed at the time of the back and in most cases, is matched in play.

Tonight I have a back bet placed on a horse at 90.2 which placed a lay order of 46.

The horse ran and I could see In play that the lay bet got matched, however at the conclusion of the race, despite initially showing green, there suddenly appeared a large loss of £60+. It turns out there was a RF applied and instead of the back odds being 92 to begin with, they were suddenly 56. My lay was still matched at 46, meaning the loss came from the discrepancy between the two.

Looking at the bet on the Betfair app now, still shows a BSP of 90ish for the winner.

Has anybody else experienced this? It seems weird that it all seemed to happen post race…

That's massive bad luck, for two horses at single figure odds to be withdrawn after the off time and then such a big priced outsider going on to win before a retrospective rule four is enforced. Going to be a very rare occurrence, but can be pretty painful when it does happen.

That's why I tend to do this type of trade with National Hunt races only because there's no messing about with stalls and you can see exactly how everyone is lining up.

@Joshua-Varley seems suspect to me Timeform listing BSP at 97 https://www.timeform.com/horse-racing/result/southwell/2024-03-05/1830/47/4

I would enquire with Betfair as there were horses at low BSP odds still in that race (2.39 and 3.94), it's not like everything was 10+ BSP

2nd fav was withdrawn very late think refused to go in stall with another withdrawn right at start
Market never got chance to reform

what normally happens is lay price is auto adjusted but i would imagine due to lateness of withdrawals it never happened

just an unfortunate crazy set of sequences

@Martin the fact the horse won at 96 BSP with two late scratches is just crazy.

@Martin 18:30 at Southwell, I think it might be the ultimate sequence of bad luck!

Was that the race with 2 withdrawn at start?
