For me it's like they looked at what other sports are doing (well in most cases) then said nah we won't bother with that.
I like the NFL way of it, watching it for years helps as well so I understand it. I like that a coach can challenge too.
I'm with you @David-Milligan, nobody can make a decision in that environment!!
How are they supposed to make a rational decision in that noise.
It's also crazy how well paid they are and it actually sounds like it's a bunch of mates shouting outside KFC!
-
@Martin true, but it would slow it down even more. I like the idea of having fewer people involved and I think you're right that the ref should be able to access the replays and decide themselves without 20 other people chattering in their ear.
Even being able to see the side on footage on a screen without lines would be fine. Benefit of doubt to the attacking team - if it looks onside at first glance then goal stands.
-
@David-Milligan game is already being slowed down, ref just gets a quick message to check monitor after goal is scored for offside, can chat to VAR team to make sure they get it right and agree. Put it this way if the ref watches that offside incident, no way is he not giving the goal. Leaving it to some numpties in a room miles away is terrible for the game.
-
@Martin that would slow the game down massively though. Do they look every time there is a goal or a chance? Do they look back to see if there is a foul in the build up? Who decides when the ref is alerted - is it only when the VAR ref thinks they are wrong or do they do it any time anything at all questionable happens?
To be honest I hate the entire thing and wish we could just go back to the ref and linesmen/women, yes they'll make some mistakes but the current situation is so annoying. Can't even celebrate a goal because you are half thinking VAR is going to rule it out.
-
@Ryan could all be easily resolved if the onfield officials looked at the screen like in the NFL and weren't told to look at it only when they are deemed to be wrong. Let them look at screen and make a decision either way, no pressure to reverse their decision.
Seriously in 20 years of watching thousands of American football matches cannot remember a game where they talked about video replay afterwards!
-
@Akiva-Anderson agree, at least if there is a computer doing it, it's black and white (and also quick).
The thing I took from it was how frantic it all sounded. There's no way you can consistently make good decisions with all that shouting and fuss.

Corrr anybody heard the var guys from the weekend the Liverpool game? Crazy!
Surely VAR is holding the game back!
The semi-automated offside technology used in the Champions League seems good, they should use that.
My problem with VAR is the offside rule. There used to be a point where advantage was given to the attacking team, that's lost now with VAR

Posted my Sept update on my thread. Very happy with that! Today could be a busy day as long as the odds in my favour:
Purple are lay over 2.5
Remainder lay under 1.5 as long as price to lay within 6.0Looking like Koge a bust at the moment and should have trusted my instinct. Were a couple of red flags. Won't let it derail my momentum though.
This was poor 1/4 on over 2.5 lays, 2/5 on under 1.5 lays
Big chunk to claw back after just one day of Oct. Hoping the bounceback can start tonight.Lay Over 2.5 Middlesbrough
2-0. Needed that.
