Which Match Clock is Correct? Betfair, Sofa Score etc.
-
I’ve been wondering which football match clocks/times are the most reliable and what other traders go by?
It would be interesting to hear how others track match timings when they trade.
For example, I have never been sure of the reliability of the Betfair event clock on football matches. I’ve always gone by the Sofa Score match clock which is usually far more consistent.
Betfair will suspend a match if a goal is scored at what appears to be real time which is very close to the SofaScore match clock but not the Betfair one.
The SofaScore alert may be a little delayed at times but Betfair and SofaScore will then record the same goal time usually which is why i go by SofaScore time to track matches. This weekend however i compared Betfair, Sofa Score, Bet 365 and even Google because the first three were all different, particularly the difference between Betfair and SofaScore. Google was different too!
I stuck with Sofa Score as usual, but this was a good 4-5 minutes ahead of Betfair and Bet 365 match times, which is more than the usual 1-2 mins.
I found this frustrating because when you’re using tested strategies that involve entering or exiting a trade at a specific time you are potentially reducing you’re edge if the timing you go by is that far off, or if you’re influenced by Betfair or bet 365 who are saying there is still 4-5 mins left before and entry/exit and those times are incorrect.

I'm a bit different here
I use my alarm on my phone mainly.... I know the game KO time is 3pm, I set an alarm for X mins past 3 to enter. Pretty much all the games kick off on time so I'm usually about there!
I have to do this now or I forget my entry times and end up making kids dinner or something!

I realised this before but never really took any notice. However, its got me thinking, if the betfair clock is slow, will we need to alter the bots as they will link to the betfair clock?
So if our bot is set to enter on 74 mins, it might not enter until 76 as the betfair clock is not correct?
Good point and one i have thought about in the past a number of times, because at some point i would like to automate my trading.
