As promised this is an updated version of garys filter with results from the pivot table i have done with excel
I've put this as a new thread so it doesn't get lost. There are probably easier ways to do all this but this works for me, as you can tell i prefer things colourful and simple lol.
The pivot table should be used as a guide for this particular filter the reason i say this is because my main filter i use with over 2000 games shows denmark as a league not to trade for 2nd half goals yet for garys filter it works all be it i would still go with caution as it has under 10 trades, for me thats not enough, this is just an example that each filter should be individual.
I just want to highlight the importance of collecting as much data as possible for example this filter is a shg filter but if you look at the results its also an excellent 1.5 filter and a very solid fhg filter. Feel free to copy anything from the way ive collected the data and adapt it to your own trading, as ive said there are probably easier ways but trading is about finding your own ways.
The main reason for this post is to show the importance of collecting data, i have bounced back and forth from different sports and strategies for nearly 3 years on here without nailing anything down. A year ago i decided to strip it all back and focus solely on the data i was collecting, so with that i went back to paper trading and learnt about pivot tables (good old youtube) that for me was a game changer seeing the strike rate for different leagues was an eye opener. Anyway fast forward and im predicting turning pro within 6 months.
The way i use the pivot is in the morning i download from the filter then i check each selection against the pivot table (i trade shgs at moment but adding 1.5 soon) if its +80% strike rate it goes on my tradeable list. just a note here i automate my trades so i just load them all up and let it go.
my main filter i get average odds of around 5.0 (lay) but i will go to 6.0 as i have confidence in the filter. also with a pivot you can dive deeper with score lines ect to help make a decision.
The only negative with garys filter is number of trades it is definitely a quality over quantity filter. so things to note-
anything under 10 trades dive a bit deeper
-
work on 1 strategy at a time its tempting to jump on all the good ones
-
have patience it will come in time
-
collect as much data as possible
one more thing the data sheet might show different league names from the pivot this was where i cleaned up the pivot table and not data sheet but all results are the same.
sorry ive gone on a bit of a ramble lol but if you have any question dont hesitate to ask just remember im no expert on spreadsheets or pivots but if i can help i will.

@james-rome no sorry mate i never tracked the odds for this i have a similar filter with a lot more games and the average odds are 5.0 on the lay side which is how i trade. id imagine this filter would come out between 5-6.

Just woundering if you know what theaverage odds are off these for SHG

@gary-finnigan-0 hello mate sorry for late reply but yes it is mate
-
@liam-willis is this the same filter that is in the profitable members section or has it been modified? Thanks Gary
-
@keith thanks, try and learn pivots they really are an eye opener i keep mine very simple and it has made a huge difference, even just for building confidence

Great share Liam thanks mate it will be a big help. I love a spreadsheet but have yet to master pivot tables. From the comments here I can already tell it will be beneficial.
Good luck with going pro too mate -
@matt-wood thanks mate ill have a look at that function it certainly open many doors when you start playing with it. as for the going pro i always tried to rush it and it actually held me back, its so important to find 1 strat you are comfortable with and let it work its magic. when you find something that works it just builds up. also compounding is a must. good luck with it all mate

Great stuff Liam thanks for posting
I was messing about with pivot tables after we spoke the other day. I got a little carried away and went right down the youtube rabbit hole!
I am now in the process of building a dashboard for my data using largely the QUERY function. I am sure there will be something like it in Excel. If you have the time and inclination take a look. Its a little complicated at first but once you understand it, its not too bad. Really powerful function.
Got my fingers crossed your hope of going pro in 6 months goes well. I think I am probably about where you were 12 months ago so it is both encouraging and inspiring to see what you have done. Great stuff
