Horse Racing Strategies Megathread
-
@Sean-Myler I posted the live results below did you see?
-
@Martin hi Martin, yes i understand that they aren’t tips.
It just seems that everything is “testing” and not live trading, which is why i mentioned it would be interesting to see admins official trades to back up the video/results etc?
-
@Sean-Myler these aren't tips bud just a people have shared strategies that have worked for them.
As in OP I only trade Lay 3rd fav and Irish Dobs from this list.
Here is my BFBM testing automated strategies using £1 back or lay stakes since July 29th.
-
@Joe-Beeston change of racing season maybe as we move more and more away from flat stuff.
-
@alexander-hughes it would be interesting to see admins official trades do you think?
-
@Sean-Myler Some will win, some will lose.
Hopefully we win.
-
@alexander-hughes hi Alexander, i understand it’s not a cash machine. There has to be a correlation of time invested (as much a money invested), crosses with return on investment. It seems the Betfair market is that efficient that even with back testing , forward testing and bots on some of the longest standing strategies, the returns aren’t there to be had? Or am I missing something?
It isn’t to be negative about what I am reading. I am just curious, as to the lack of feedback about people successfully trading ?

@Sean-Myler Lay 3rd (modified, ditched the least profitable at start and i take the 3rd fav at 10 secs out regardless of runner) is up just over 20 points for me since 1st August. Down from the high point.
LBF (modified, removed losing courses at start) is 15 points down from 1st September. Up from it's lowest point.
Dobs i haven't added to my portfolio yet.
You have to be realistic. It's not a cash machine. They should be profitable long term but depending when you start them it can look like they're garbage if you start in a dip of variance.
Keep an eye on your strategies but don't be rash.
I'm of the mind that adding more strategies are better than increasing stakes if variance bothers you.
-
@Joe-Beeston hi joe, which of the preset strategies is it that you are using and how long have you been using them?
As the most back tested and forward tested strategies, it would be interesting to know how you are getting on?
As, as much as the theory seems to work in them, I haven’t heard anyone yet saying that they are profitable using these?
-
Lay 3rd Fav has taken a right battering these last couple of days. Close to 30 pts down in 3 days .
All my horse racing ones seem to have gone the same way recently. Not sure what it is.
-
@Sean-Myler yeah click your name then start a topic
-
@Sean-Myler yeah it's a training course on Betfair Trading (not specified to horses though a general one).
You could always use the private coaching section for more training which is free with your membership
-
@Sean-Myler yeah I think this was an old version where the user made an error
-
@Sean-Myler at what?
-
-
@Matthew-Sheehan hi Matthew, what differences fid you notice between your testing results to your love results?
Which methods were you using?
-
@Craig-Spowart : Again these are screenshots from BFBM. I'd really need to see where they appeared in our software if possible, to eliminate possible issues with the way the strategy has been set up in BFBM, which isn't something we have any control over.
I can identify a few things though:
-
You're still using the BSP favourite rule in your Horse Selection Rules. You may want to remove it and use the new favourite settings in the Betting Rules instead as you're betting pre-race, if you're trying to reduce variance
-
Al Simmo won a couple of times in June and July last year at Newmarket at this distance. It's possible RP are making a distinction between the two tracks at the same course, which we're not.
-
Speckled Meadow isn't showing as a course or distance winner in our software at all. Here's what we were displaying in the software yesterday (you can see this by changing the date at the top of the home screen of the software):
-
I went through your list of upcoming qualifiers for today and tomorrow. All of them are CD winners and seem to qualify for your strategy. Which ones did you think weren't supposed to be there?
