Horse Racing Strategies Megathread

@Joe-Beeston not at the moment. The script simply pulls whatever data is present in the source spreadsheet. I'm sure I'll have this problem soon and I'll try to work out a solution if there isn't one yet. If it works well, I'll be happy to share it.
-
@Jonathan-Jones Yeah, it's still early days for me, so I'm testing various automation software to see which one I'll adapt. Once I start using one, I should be able to write a similar script to gather data automatically. This approach saves time and avoids mistakes. I code for living so I'm happy to contribute to the community as much as I can.

@Correa
Its a useful thing to do so you can check against actual performance every day and identify issues with automation etc. I do something similar though am having to change it as i just switched execution platform and BFBM shows results in different ways to Fairbot. -
@Correa This looks very nice doesn't it.
Does this cater for the problem where selections for certain filters might change throughout the day due to non runners and price moves etc.
I am finding that on a couple of my filters, the selections change. Either a selection that I did have should no longer be traded or vice versa, one then comes in later.
No worries if not, just thinking of ways around that besides constantly refreshing the daily qualifiers section.

After a week of training, I jumped into Betfair trading yesterday. I couldn't find way to track bets manually as the existing P&L spreadsheet was tailored more for football. So, I created a script that pulls rows from the "Qualifiers for the day" spreadsheet and sorts them by strategy (matching the "strategy_name" column) into tabs in a new sheet. It saves a few minutes of copy & paste. If anyone finds this useful, I'd be happy to share the code and instructions. You can implement it via Google Sheets' "Extensions - App scripts" feature.

@David-Milligan profit went up by approx £13 to £1 stakes.
-
@dave-tancock what about profit? Strike rate may go up but are you missing higher priced winners?
-
Don’t know if anyone has tried further restricting odds on back C&D winner, but just out of curiosity I removed all odds higher than 4.0 and my strike rate went from 28% to 40%. I’m aware that I probably don’t have enough data to categorically state this is an improvement but thought I’d mention it in case anyone else had similar thoughts/findings

Let's not jinx it now by changing the name.
Agreed
-
@Joe-Beeston yeah, most of the preset are from members who shared a strategy that was working well for them. Some have carried on working well and some struggle in forward testing. I'm happy to ditch strategies that aren't working in testing and focus on the ones that are, especially as we get shared a lot of new strategies from the very generous members.

@Joe-Beeston I agree. There's nothing restricting that strategy to the fave.
@Martin Any idea why this one is named "Lay the fave"?
not one of mine so can't tell you why it's set up like that, seems to work though

@Adam Thanks for the reply. It is the Lay The Fav on the list at the top of the thread.
Checking the criteria and the results from previous days, there are multiple occasions where there are more than 1 selection traded and none are favs. This suggests to me that any selection between 6.5-10 should be layed and do not just laying the 1 fav as the name suggests.
-
@Joe-Beeston When you say "the above Lay the Fav filter", do you mean the "Lay The Beaten Favourite" strategy in the Presets in the software?
If so, the criterion is that the horse should NOT be the fave or 2nd fave.
If you don't mean that strategy, which one do you mean?
-
I am just looking at the results for the above 'Lay The Fav' filter and there is a 2 results for the 17:10 @ Catterick yesterday. Screenshot below...how is that possible? Also neither of the 2 selections were the favourite. The fav was Mutanaaseq @ 4.8 BSP.
My understanding of this strategy was to lay the Fav of the race at the off at odds between 6.5-10. If the fav of the race was not within those odds, then to leave the race alone?

@Toyin-Butler Looking good, well done! Love a bit of chart porn..
I need to add these charts to my football testing, what's best way of doing them these days? Anyone else remember making them at school?
-
All going to be sorted soon. If you check out Adams new thread about updates it says the new one with the favourite at bet time stuff is coming soon. Maybe even this week. That will clear up all the questions on these strategies. Even if it shows that as created they are not as profitable once the critera are correct at least we will know exactly where we stand.
