Horse Racing Strategies Megathread

@Andrew-Gray thank you andrew. £1 stakes?
-
@Sean-Myler Was asking Martin, see his screenshot above
Short price lays was not in the screen shot. Here are my stats for that. It lost £40 today so was looking better when I posted earlier.
-
@Andrew-Gray which ones are these please? I appear to have missed them.
-
@Andrew-Gray some interesting results andrew. Are your lay the short priced fave on there also, i didn’t notice them?
-
@Martin hi Martin,
That’s interesting you point out and quite possibly that they don’t publish their daily results. Usually the psychology of a “gambler” is that profits are spoken about, and losses are kept quiet. Maybe as it is a online forum this is reversed whereby people are seeking advice.
It might be a poll to take about the forum next time you put one out.
I would definitely like to take up @Adam adams offer, as horse trading is something that I am very keen to become good at.
Are you finding that manually trading the presets are giving you less variance than automating the same strategies?
-
@Sean-Myler I'm doing much better with Footy and Tennis strats btw.
I know nothing about racing so can't really come up with any strats of my own or even tweak because I have no theories of why anything will or won't work.Football and Tennis are much easier to understand (IMO) so can come up with endless strats and variations on the theme to test out and see what works.
When the BTC Football backtesting comes out this process will be superchared, so cannot wait for that!
-
@Martin - Has that Top Four strat been shared anywhere yet? Looks tasty!!!
Have not seen it shared anywhere yet can you post it pls mate? Also the Forecast one? I have one called Lay 1st and 2nd Fav... is that the same thing do you think?
Cheers

Here are my results testing various strategies that have been shared on the forum
I only started at the beginning of September so I guess you could say I am still in testing phase and not trading properly but you mentioned time invested - well after the initial time of learning how the software works and how BFBM automation works (which is not a cakewalk, admittedly) I have just sat back and let it run.
Suggest you look at BFBM software and the thread about it to learn more if you want to make the time investment part of things all but dissapear.
Now I know what I'm doing whenever a new strategy pops up I can just throw it on there in 5 minutes and away it goes. Then wait, see what works, what doesn't, and hopefully up stakes accordingly in a few months time.
As it turns out the best strategy since I started is the old Lay the short favourite one, which is now "Not Recommended" - just because it had a couple of losing months I beleive. So I'll echo what others have said above don't take one month of results as how the long term will be for any given strat.

@Sean-Myler interesting take and impression you have got from the forum, we run surveys etc and know that at the time of the last survey 60% of members are profitable. If the consensus was that no one was profitable we wouldn't be here, people would cancel and the business would go under. I wouldn't want to do this either if that was the case. Fortunately it isn't, I do feel like people who are unprofitable are more likely to say it on the forum, I don't know why, people talk a lot more about their losses than wins in general. I guess they hurt so people want to talk them over.
Also we know from the data that 80% of members do not ever use the forum, I wonder if the profitable traders are less likely to seek out help on a forum? I don't have any data for that but it would be interesting, may include that q in the next member survey we do.
I wonder if the forum in this case is actually a negative in some ways, if new members are getting this false impression because of what is being presented, food for thought anyway!

@Adam understandable adam. I am up and down the country all the time as I own a commercial vehicle sales business. That would be great for some reassurance.
The reason being, i am seeing so many extensive messages by some people that seem to be very methodical, analytical, and dedicated traders. But the consensus seems the same from each person, that they aren’t profitable.
Is the bread and butter one a preset?
-
That's very generous of you Adam or at least very brave
I am struggling with motivation at the minute. I have been a member for over a year now. I have tried 5 or 6 strats, including 2 or 3 of my own and it just seems to be the case that whenever i start one, it goes on a terrible run and goes back on the testing pile.
It's easy to lose motivation. Am I not filtering strats enough? Am I filtering it too much and therefore cherry picking the good results. Either way, it does feel sometimes like you're not making any inroads.
BTW - This is me just voicing my feelings and not me asking to see your strategies and P/L's. If others are feeling this way, you're not on your own I'll keep going, I refuse to acknowledge that I can't do this

@Sean-Myler : In all honesty I wouldn't be happy for screenshots of my Betfair account and financial positions to be floating around on the internet either, especially as it has no effect on anyone's ability to use the tools we provide to create their own strategies. I'm sorry if that puts any kind of doubt in your mind.
For what it's worth, I'm currently live trading a bread and butter strategy that I've used since 2010, and a sort of dutching strategy that came from the software but is quite early days. I'm also tentatively trading a version of the lay 3rd fave strategy, but that has taken a bit of a battering recently.
If you're just looking for reassurance that it "can be done" and is worthwhile pursuing, and you're anywhere near me (Buckinghamshire), I'd be more than happy to meet up for a coffee and show you some figures, assuming you would want to actually have some kind of discussion about trading once the awkward bit is out of the way.
Same offer is open to anyone, on the condition that I'm able to establish in advance somehow that you're not a psychopath
-
@Joe-Beeston @Martin hi joe, and Martin. This is exactly what I meant sorry, i didn’t articulate it very well.
Is this something that the results can be shared on full staking to give example?
Thank you
-
@Joe-Beeston thanks for clarifying
-
@Sean-Myler these strategies are fairly new, testing them currently as stated a few times.
Not sure what you are getting at really but going off topic here, this thread is for (first line in OP) -
'This thread is for shared members strategies which can be downloaded. These will also help you create your own strategies and see what people are having success with.'
if you want to chat about my personal trading feel free to PM me
-
@Sean-Myler here is some £100 stake betting if it makes you happy back to back 3pm kick offs week to week.
Also a £250 stake one too.

@Sean-Myler that's just for automation of these specific members shared strategies which I only started in late July. Are you saying you want to see our Betfair account details? I'm not sure what it is you are after. If it is that then no I don't share those, actually got legal advice on that years ago and it's not wise to share account details with the internet. I have people (probably rival companies) try to hack my account enough as it is!
