@alastair-todd which strategy are you following?
-
Wow, only 1 favourite has won today out of 12 so far. Perhaps I should have layed the fave instead - I would be quids in!

@keith no but that’s because I’ve got myself into something else that I’ve spent the whole morning on. Looking at lay to backs finally. Opened a can of worms lol
Ok mate sounds good!

@keith I thought you might like that one. Could work on a lot of things. Lay strategies you might want it in and backing strategies or trading ones you might not.
Yes mate I am very excited to test
Have you found any benefits on yours yet? -

@john-folan oooo that’s a new one on me too!

@martin Have to say though, he has highlighted a potential game changer. The filter for 'favourite price', might mean you can exclude races where there are short odds favourites(I:e Odds On). I've asked Adam to confirm this is the case. Could make a difference to a lot of strategies potentially. There goes my morning.
-
@benjamin-turley ok so the issue you have is that your entry time is market open, well at market open we have no idea who BSP favourite will be. If you set entry time to 10 seconds before the race you will get a true reflection results wise.
-
Hi, I've come up with a strategy that seems too good to be true. I'm fairly new to trading horses so was wondering if someone who knows what they are doing could look it over and give me some feedback. Cheers.
Back the fave 15-33 furlongs (odds 1.5-3)

@dr-steve-buckwell I have a much less scientific way of thinking about formulas and I think the more you add the more can go wrong, I am a simple bloke

@john-folan ah John I didnt even know what back fitting was. I thought it was something my wife did with her dresses. But seriously I was a data analyst and used such tools as were avalable in the 1980s and 90s to find correlation coefficients for data in the pharma and other industries. We always came to the conclusion that the simpler the formula, ie the less the amount of variables in the equation, the mor elikely it was to be useful as a predictive tool. More often than not, convoluted formulae were only of any use to justify historical data.
So I guess Im inagreement with you. The most beautiful predictive equations in the universe are the simplest ones, e=mc2 etc etc. That makes great sense. There’s a great trading acronym that supports that too. K.I.S.S. Which is Keep It Simple Stupid. A few simple filters always work Handicap, Type, Class etc. but when you are only looking at horses that run when the wind blows from the east and it’s a Wednesday you are it trouble

@wayne-ironside Had a little play with your pace letter backs

This is what I came up with. I am testing it now. Will take a look at your too.

If you click Icon next to pace letter in software it says this
A simplified pace filter based on the pace letters assigned to each horse in the race. L = Led, P = Prominent, H = Held up
Thanks never knew that feature

You only know those after the race though so be careful
Yes they have changed the software so it can only be historical now. When it first came out I came up with a golden goose strategy using pace letter haha. Good job I realised, knowing nothing about horse racing.
I really should read more. Must have missed that one lol.
