@dan-mackinnon I would love that matey, those 2 bullets have me hooked already!

One of the big changes for me was when I started looking at my performance quarterly, my cousin is a hedge fund manager and I have had deep chats with him.

He was like why are bothering checking weekly, if I checked weekly I'd be in deep s**t, my fund lost £££££ last week but over the quarter made ££££££££.

I'd honestly say that over the years the markets haven't changed, they are mechanical, it's me who needs the work.

@ryan I think with more experience identifying triggers and solutions becomes easier, but you've made a good point that it doesn't matter how long you've been doing it you can't just assume you've cracked it as the world of trading is constantly evolving. It comes back to your point that there is always another trade and when identifying problems we can sometimes rush into it rather than taking a day or two off and genuinely reflect. For example, if you know you're struggling with overcoming the fear of loss you might force yourself to be bold in the next trade and if it wins then fine, but if it loses you're just reinforcing that fear. Instead, if you reflect you can ask "why was I afraid?", "has this happened before?", etc.

A couple of points from "The Mental Game of Trading" which relate to this that I found interesting are:

    • Once you have found a successful strategy you need to combat self doubt with facts. Take whatever doubt/ fear you have and find evidence this is false. For example, “I can’t handle big losses, therefore I’m not cut out to be a trader”. That could be challenged with “I have thoroughly tested my strategy and know I have a big enough edge that I can handle losses that occur from time to time, sometimes these will be big, but my strategy allows for that”

    • Don’t put too much pressure on yourself day to day. No other job pays you based on your performance or fines you for making mistakes as immediately as trading does. Try to detach and focus on your data and strategy rather than reacting in the moment.

I've got a copy of this book if you're interesting in reading it?

@dan-mackinnon 100% the book Tiny habits helped me, really breaking down the trigger and adding something else to make me do something else that meant I wasn't always scared of my trades.

In fact I am going to use that topic for my next video Tuesday!

You have become my muse for this week! What other thoughts do you have around this? (this will mean I can try and really get deep in this topic).

Thanks for the responses. I've started using a trading journal which is more of a recap along the same lines as Ryan mentioned in his podcast. Sometimes it takes a day or two to break and see where I went wrong. On Monday I was going in afraid to lose and as a result kept checking my trades rather than just leaving them to run. I know a few people have been guilty of this, if it's meant to be set and forget - then set and FORGET!

@dan-mackinnon It's helped me a lot. Find something that works and stick with it until it doesn't, mines changed a few times over the years.

Right now I am wind walker YT videos of places in California, literally somebody walking around videoing themselves walking around... sad I know, but 15/20 mins of that I am totally lost in that surrounding and places I love, takes me back and relaxes the mind then I can come back.

6/6 so should be 12pts. Not sure what happened but I had a mental roadblock and bailed on most of these trades. Only ended up trading 1.

After listening to Ryan’s podcast I’m going to try and incorporate more self reflection. I think the end of last month rattled me a bit more than I was willing to admit. Therefore, I’m going to take a short break to refocus myself and get back into it. Luckily there’s not much coming up so a good time to pause.

    +2pts

End of Month Review - June
I was really annoyed with this month as it's been my worst, but then going back over the data I see it was 2 consecutive 0-0s that really threw me. Looking at my previous data this has only happened twice in 1,000+ games so can't be too annoyed. Without those 2 games it would have been +6pts. Oh well

June in numbers - traded numbers only

    19 trades
    12 winning trades 63.2% SR (Average 85%)
    8 days trading
    LLR: 4
    -18pts

It was all going so well until last night. 4/4 and recovered my loss until ANOTHER 0-0 in the Vancouver game has sent me back -12pts

As this is my 3rd major loss in a week I’m going to paper trade for a bit. These summer leagues are new so in fairness I probably should have paper traded them this summer anyway.

Some good news is that I’ve been trying to get my head around cricket trading and up 2.5pts in the ENG test. I’ll probably focus on that while paper trading this.

I had just worked my way back to being in profit and Peru wiped me out again! That’s strike 2. I didn’t get matched on the first game so 2 losing trades mean -12pts

@daniel-harris I use 4.0. They don't all get matched but I'm happy with the 3-1 risk/ reward. I think 5.0 would also work.

From my experience, 4.0 gets matched roughly around the 60 minute mark. 5.0 can get matched at HT or usually within the first 5-10 minutes depending on the game.

    Hi Dan,

Do you have a minimum odds criteria for the lay of the SHG ?
