Tennis gurus - I’m sure this has been explored before so sorry if rehashing old subject matter but is there any data floating around on high ranking players performance in lower tournaments?

Hypothesis being they aren’t as motivated or use these events to trial new aspects of their game in match scenarios.

@karl-mccarthy yeah you are right, just think it would be fun, like the FA cup has no seedings and it gives lesser teams more of a chance to go far!

@martin-futter I think it's just like the football. The governing bodies don't want the stars or big teams going out in the early rounds and use seedings to keep them apart for as long as possible. It's concerning to hear some players are not bothering.

@martin-futter how Nadsl is seeded anywhere other than 1 in a clay tournament makes no sense.

In a normal year, shouldn’t seedlings be based on rankings for that surface other than world rankings. This year seedlings will probably have to go on world rankings due to a lack of meaningful matches to go on.

The bigger issue for me is the continued use of protected rankings which makes a mockery of the ranking system and players such as Pliskova, Martic, Konta and Monfils for example all of whom have done nothing since restart last summer and should all be a lot lower ranked than they are. They might look interested then

@james-woodroffe I think it's just for simplicity, I doubt all tournaments would have time to thoroughly seed people. Also there should be a reward for working yourself so high in the rankings, I think the Wimbledon way of doing it is actually a little unfair on those who perform well all year.

I would be interested to see a big tournament with no seedings! Imagine an early round match between Nadal and Djokovic, instead of those usual first week essential dead rubbers the top players play in slams.

@chris-osborne there’s a quote from Medvedev I found funny today. He basically says “ I hate playing on clay, the bounce is all over the place I’m no good on it yet I’m in Monte Carlo seeded above a guy who’s won this event what 11 times or something?”

Medvedev deserves his ranking seedings are always strange why does Wimbledon seed you on your “grass expertise” but no other tournament takes your record on that surface into consideration? Nadal being seeded 3 on a clay court event is laughable.

Don't think Kudermetova had to break much of a sweat in that. Missed the opportunity to back her when she was briefly broken in 1st set, but backed her before her odds came in too much for 1pt.

Same here I made money on the Columbia final nothing materialised in this one

@James-Woodroffe I've seen that quote from Paire before, think he's in a minority or as you say hope he is. I agree with your comments about integrity etc also denies someone else the opportunity who wants to play. I kept getting notifications on that game wishing I was at the PC at that time as laying the server especially in the third set would have been the way to go.

I did profit from the 2nd set of the Goffin game though when Cilic decided to play

In all honesty for me its time the Protected rankings we're ended, they've served there purpose but it makes a mockery of the likes of PAire and Pliskova etc who couldn't care less right now

Worked on the oddest match in a long time today. Benoit Paire said in a press conference that he hates the bubble life and because his ranking is protected of last year he is turning up guaranteed a first round entry losing taking his money and getting out of the bubble. He couldn’t be arsed today and was clearly tanking. The occasional bit of brilliance followed by the most obvious errors. Constantly getting broken. Strangely tho Jordan Thompson was even worse and he WAS trying. Somehow it got to a 3rd set tie break and lo and behold Paire lost. I hope that he’s alone with this mindset because it cheapens the tour if there’s others who think that way.

Scratch day yesterday, lost on Jabeur after backing her at the start of the second set having lost the first she was never really in it and didn't seem to have a plan.

Kudermetova was 1.8 at the start of the match backed her at that point and she won fairly comfortably. Would have liked to have got more involved but no other opportunities materialised

Final today should be a comfortable win for Kudermetova athough Kovinic is playing way above her usual standard this week probably something to do with the change to Clay is it one game too much for her who knows. Not sure if I'll get involved unless Kudermetova gets broken early or loses the first set.

MAy have a look at the first two ATP1000 games in Monte Carlo.

First losing day for a while today and was probably due. 3pts loss but still in profit for the week which is my first objective every week.

Four trades today Four losses got on the wrong side of Putinseva and Gauff and also the Serrano and Diaz games in Columbia which if I'd let run would have turned round but I bailed.

I'm going to leave the Columbia tournament alone as I dont know anything about the players remaining

@james-woodroffe Enjoy. As bad as the forecast is hopefully doesn't include the snow and arctic wind we've had this week.

Another just under 2 points profit last night from three trades although could have been better if Kvitova had been even 1% interested. Used Ryan's 3-3/4-4 strategy to lay her in the first set which she proceeded to lose. Swithched the profit to her fully expecting a comeback but Kovinic also took the second set for the loss of only one game. At least I dodn't lose anything.

Backed Jabeur at the start of the second set after she lost the 1st to Cornet, she made hard work of it and seemed to be struggling with the heat but in the end took the second set and then the match.

Also laid Martincova after she got the early break as price was far too low for someone of her ranking. She then proceeded to lose her serve immediately and I then cashed out for 1pt profit.

Alot of comfortable straight sets games yesterday other than the Rogers v Barty game which was too late for me.

Although I did mention getting involved in the ATP games, the timrs aren't really realistic for me from a work point of view currently

Jabeur v Gauff and Putinseva v Kovinic on my radar for today in Charleston and possibly the games in Columbia although I don't know much about most of the players involved there

Packing for Monte Carlo just added the weather to my phone and it looks pretty bleak especially for Monday. Hopefully it all passes but not good for day 1.

Having taken Tuesday off, another couple of points profit yesterday again from Laying 1st set winners in Sevastova, Bencic and Gauff matches.

Would have been more but stayed in too long on the Fernandez game whch I traded like a clown. Should have cashed out earlier and layed the server in 3rd set as neither of them could hold serve. Didn't expect Kovinic to beat Fernandez but was a strange day of results yesterday although good for trading.

Also had a freebet on Kenin jn the 3rd set which she somehow managed to lose to a player in LAuren Davis she should be beating without trying.

The Rogers v Anisimova game looks like it was crazy last night but was asleep at that point.

Not sure of the games for today yet but more of the same from yesterday will do me nicely.

A couple of relatively straightforward Lay 1st set winner trades on Cornet and Anisimova trades for a couple of pts profit.

Usually dig myself a hole at the start of a tournament so being a bit more cautious today and tomorrow.

If I'd had the confidence could have gone to town on both games - 13 breaks in the Cornet game, both her and Pera aren't exactly reliable and 12 breaks inthe Anisimova match

Also, @Zurab-Anchabadze stats are now available

    Hi

Why tennis software shows no matches for today?

And it's not for the first time

It's difficult at the moment as the calendar etc has been all over the place thanks to covid, a lot of new or renamed tournaments which means we are getting the data late from the feed provider.

@karl-mccarthy I did the same but removed my liability when Andreescu broke back.

I just hope Biance hasn't picked up another serious injury at 20 she has already been through more than post tennis players go through in a career, looked more like the foot as opposed to the knee hopefully not in the Achilles.

Given a clear run of injuries etc she is one of the few alongside Swiatek who if they are given time will be able to compete with Osaka and Barty.

What a disappointment the Barty v Andreescu final was. I layed Barty when she was 3-0 up @ 1.19 and had the chance to green out when Andreescu broke back. I left it, thinking it was going to be a close game. Well you all know what happened from there 😞
