Whats the 80/20 of BTC?
-
Guys,
We know that the Pareto principle of 80% of the results comes from the 20%, what I want to know is what is the 20% of BTC you use?
I'm always wanting to maximise this place for you and make it the best it can be - I know you are always helpful as well in my requests like these , after all you guys decide what we build and where we take this ship.
Ps there isn't any right or wrong answers here!
-
some excellent suggestions - I am going to re do the 5 day build your own filter challenge as your welcome to BTC
This will show people how to use the stats and an action plan alongside it - I've always wanted people to be able to build their own instead of just following me.

@daniel-cooper This is a good idea, so maybe I could get something from members like the biggest mistake you made when starting with BTC and trading - these could go out as a series to help people and we can give them a better path.
I was thinking of bringing in the 5 day challenge I did on how to built your first strategy too.
Yeah do it! A new fresh challenge would be awesome

@ryan-carruthers i think sometimes when you do these things they come in patches. So when new members come on there is already some sort of active new challenge, which might not be where they are with trading at the time. They become a bit overwhelmed. We have been discussing over on martins thread he posted too, about some form of pathway for new members. Sometimes i feel like you start a series but then it gets lost over time, even tho the series was good for those who took part. I think if there was a section of the forum/site where beginners could get access to all these challenges and it could be like a checklist guide before they begin actively trading.
So first they get access to 2 best strategies you guys have, with extensive up to date results. So your split stake and one of the more common SHGs. So they get this idea of how markets work and how to place and feel when money is in the market.
Then have a few sections on bank management, FOMO, over trading, overstaking, how to track trades/its importance, the dos and dont so to speak. Which would then allow them to see how to fine tune their trades. In this you can include youtube vids or blogs already done. You dont need to ask members what their biggest mistake was we have done that a few times, its always the same. You could interview a few of the more established and experienced members and give a case study as something to read too.
Then finally one of the challenges, this could be a filter challenge, strategy challenge in which they then have to come up with their own strategy and filter. Which will give them a more in depth feel of what to look for and why existing strategies work so well.
Iv done a better description over on martins of a suggestion of mine for it: https://forum.betfairtradingcommunity.com/topic/2708/important-membership-and-stats-update
But in regards to what you have here, i think combining it all in one place so that these things dont vanish or are only a monthly thing we can then make sure its evergreen content for new and old members.I think just sometimes information and help like these challenges vanish too quickly but are actually great practice for any trader new and old. Like with most things that go inactive as a thread they go missing in the amount that posted daily. Not make it an exam more just a checklist, step 1, step 2. These things that would help them see how best to approach trading rather than in patches of right this month we are doing this even tho you might not be at this level yet etc.

Interesting, why do you think this is? Who do you want to see us interview? @dan-mackinnon

@daniel-cooper I used to work with a guy who was insanely smart on excel so got him to teach me a bit. It helped him because I stopped pestering for stuff so an hour teaching me saved him plenty over time. VLOOKUPS are pretty easy once you understand the fundamental of it

Its probably an answer to a question you havent asked but one thing which would be absolutely brilliant would be a results sheet. Some sort of csv with the match ID along with the HT & FT scores, goal times, FT result would be a massive time saver. The match ID being unique means users can pull the data into their own sheets for data collection. Im probably not the only one who absolutely hates this element of data collection. Theres probably loads of us collecting the same information day after day
I know its not your problem to solve, just saying
Yes please... Have almost been begging for some time now to be able to have a results feature... This would be awesome!!!

@chris-osborne When i download the filters daily i keep the match ID in my sheets. If im collecting data for say 5 strategies then once ive updated one strategy then i pull those results into the others using vlookups; its a bit fiddly at times but saves time on replicating the collection of data. If there was a 'BTC master sheet' of sorts then it would be a great great feature as it would easily tie-in to the filter downloads using the match ID and would save everyone doing that initial chore of scrolling flashscores and manually getting what they needed
Jesus, thats really bloody smart. I have a vague awareness of lookups and used to implement them at school/sixth form, but wouldnāt know where to start now smart idea!

I'm with you on this one manually extracting scores to analyse strategies being tested is not something I relish I've often wandered whether there was anywhere they could be downloaded from after which one of us with excel skills could set up a format most of us could use.
Maybe the backtesting option will provide this in the future

Amazing guys!
I thought it would be the forum and the software. Who would care if we took away the daily email?
I think itās helpful when starting out but obviously it must be a time commitment to do every day. Maybe thereās a way of having somewhere on the forum/site which has the proven strategies (ie tried and tested) with info on each one such as the filter itself, the way they could be played and any other useful information. That way you can point someone to a good starter strategy but then the individual could become more self sufficient in that strategy
-
@daniel-cooper @Ryan-Carruthers Slightly off topic but, the podcast episodes I have enjoyed the most and felt I've learnt the most from are the interview ones.
I think the Daily Selections are beneficial to get an insight into what a pro traders selections looks like on a particular day.

@daniel-cooper great shout!!
What kind of emails would have helped you your first 2 weeks?
1 or 2 pick up and go - already proven - BTC strategies/selections
Rules of Engagement, at the top, bolded, front and centre:
- DON'T CHASE LOSSES
- DON'T OVER TRADE
- DON'T GO SEARCHING FOR TRADES
- AVOID THE CANDY SHOP!!!
etc etc.
Definition of FOMO and why to avoid it
Also maybe each email can have a brief quote or piece from an existing member, to bring things to life a bit. Like, on one hand, a lot of people don't learn until they've made their own mistakes, but, to hear 14 different real people all say "Yeah, don't over stake, I've lost a whole bank before by chasing losses" etc might help a newbie?
Just a few ideas!
How about a big warning advising you to put your phone down while with wife, family, loved ones. Don't take things for granted!
It can soon become a big elephant in the room.

The only thing I guess is this shows that newbies find it helpful as an introduction.
-
I agree found it useful when I first joined but as long as the filters for these strategies remain would be ok by me
-
@matt-wood agreed, might not be for me, but new members would benefit.
Maybe replace the daily email with a targetted email at new members, with the same content, for their first two weeks?
That may well be more effort overall to form the d-list of just new members
