Who you are?
Steve, 64, been retired for a couple of years.Where you are from?
From Manchester, worked down South, now back up North (Fleetwood)What stage are you at in your trading journey?
Early days. Have read loads and watched loads of football trading stuff but not really got into it seriously. There seems to be so many strategies I don’t really know which one(s) to start with.I also find it confusing that some pro traders say you can’t trade well if you’re not watching and ‘reading’ the match and others say you just need to follow in play stats.
I would hope it’s the latter.I did try matched betting/ low risk casino for a year or so and made £5k but the gubbings are depressing and I felt it took over my life to the exclusion of everything else. Nowadays, having taken the low hanging fruit of MB, I can’t be bothered with it much anymore. It’s a great way to build a bank though.
I’m hoping that trading will be more adaptable to a ‘work’/life balance.
What's your background?
IT. Old school programmer.Why did you join BTC?
To be honest, I just wanted to compare it to another rival trading site that I’m also trialling.
It’s only been a week but BTC is definitely winning me over. The stats software is very impressive with so many selection parameters available.
I also like the friendly community feel of BTC.What do you hope to get from the community?
Training, ideas for filters, questions to be answered.What are some of your trading goals?
I am under no illusions that trading is easy, so I just want to build up experience and see if I can initially break even or better . I’m going to start with a bank of £500 and only risk £10 per trade.If my bank doubles, I’ll double my stakes. I’m not expecting that to happen anytime soon though!

Who you are?
Steve
Where you are from?
Australia (Central Coast of NSW)
What stage are you at in your trading journey
Just starting
What's your background?
That's a wide question. What I bring to the party is that I am, by profession, a data analyst (hmm, amongst others), and I'm pretty good at sticking to processes without bailing at the first sign of trouble - two qualities that seem to help with this trading. On the downside, I am very inexperienced but I'm trying to learn.
Why did you join BTC?
I watched some videos and listened to some blogs and thought I'd see if I could get some help starting out. I'll see how this develops.
What do you hope to get from the community?
Starting advice, at first. I'd also like to talk to people about how they go about data analysis because I think that's where my strengths lay.
What are some of your trading goals?
At first, not lose my small bank. Then slowly build a bank over time. Eventually, I would like to supplement my retirement in a few years. -
@justin-sidaway one of the best football strategies for beginners is the lay the draw strategy, there are a few versions of it but basically you try to pick teams who score lots of goals and therefore don't have many bore draws. not much football on today but there will be over the weekend. Check out Keith's filter on the stats software as well, I know a lot of people follow that and do well. The key is to check the games yourself once you have a filtered list to make sure they are good picks, it is also wise to check the inplay stats at HT if going for a half-time LTD, it is also good to check stats later on in the match if you are thinking about taking a loss to see if it does look like a dead game. Just give it a go very small stakes and see how you go.

Cheers for the email Martin, just looked at your spreadsheet...
Seems good, although I don't understand it in detail...
Any advice where to head first.... I've looked at the beginner videos

@justin-sidaway Hi Justin! Welcome to the club. I definitely prefer trading to gambling for the reason that sporting events often have many ups and downs. Picking which way the coin will ultimately fall is difficult but riding the swings means whoever you pick you can often make money in the markets. Perfect example of this is the Ashes match last week, I layed England at 5.0 and traded out at 12.0, I thought we could not chase 300. I was wrong and we won but because of the beauty of trading I still made money as Aus were in such a good position to win.

Another newbie... I signed up last night.
I'm Justin 47yo and from Stourbridge West Midlands.
Unfortunately I've always had the gambling bug, started on the fruit machines and have dabbled In almost everything (3 card brag, poker, football betting and horses) Out of everything only poker I considered myself to be profitable.
I have 80 pounds to gamble with each month and are sick of being skint by the end of week 2 (sometimes week 1). So have decided I need to try and take this seriously.
I've been dabbling in trading on/off for the last4 months and enjoy this, thinking there is more of a skill to this than just betting.
At the moment I have 100 in my bankroll, I don't have a system. Also I have a young family so can't put loads of time into this at the moment.
I know more about football so would like to start here,...
Anyone say I should quit (I've heard this a 1000 times off the wife )
Thanks
Jusin -
@john-dunne Lovely

@ryan-carruthers thanks Ryan, i feel ive come home, football trading is so different to pre-race, im actually enjoying my trading now, gone is all the stress of trading too. see you in the forum mate

@john-dunne Welcome to the group!
Great to have you here, a lot of people feel the same when they move from horses to football but I always think you don't have to do horses, seems to be a lot of feeling out there that is where traders have to be, my ethos keep is simple if football is where you see it and can profit then rock it!

hey all, thought i better introduce myself, im new to BTC, this is my 2nd week, love what i see so far, great info, lots of help and sound advice, i find the stats very useful it saves a lot of time, i have been trading for 2 years now pre-race but had no success at it despite putting in over 4k hrs over the past 2 years, with a heavy heart i have come away from pre-race and am now looking at the football markets, my only regret is not having joined BTC earlier. my goal for this year (excuse the pun) is to master a couple to football trading strategies and slowly scale up my stakes, i feel im in the right place to learn and grow as a trader and look forward to the journey ahead. im sure il be active in the forum so il catch up with you guys there, best of luck to all of you.

@stuart-capstick Amazing introduction!
Welcome to the group, I love calling them 'Dick trades' good way to describe them.
I had a poisson method as well but got so bored doing the data daily - that I just keep it simple in the BTC stats now and have better results

Stuart Capstick
Newcastle upon TyneNovice. Started matched betting. Decided to follow an Acorns tip service. This went well until a run of seven losses (following Fibbonacci staking series), followed by a win then another run of eight losses. I then realised that I needed to rethink my staking and accept variance can be a pain. I didn't blow my bank but the staking was stupidly high.
Took up football trading a few months ago(and a little tennis). Have learned so much. Mainly that, as people on here say constantly, it's more about the execution than the strategy.
Now at the stage where I make small but steady profits (@£10 per day) and I'm very happy with that while I continue to learn.
I've learned to avoid "dick trades" as I call them. For example, laying, say Ajax for £10 at odds of 7 at half-time. While in itself that may not be a bad trade as stats may suggest a goal, with a bank of £100, it isn't the best idea. Yes, I have been that daft...
I then started on the U 2.5 market, believing that there would be value as most people bet on O 2.5. I made Poisson distributions for the low scoring leagues (France 2, Russian and Ukrainian leagues etc). This was profitable in the short time I employed it, but was a pain to maintain ( lifting results and tables from stats sites into Excel etc). It wasn't really trading; it was more bet and go.
Also learned to accept that a trade can be good in terms of stats and execution, but can lead to a loss. Also got rid of FOMO: there is always another game to trade.
I've developed a FHG filter, SHG filter, LTD filter, which are probably very similar to those of existing members. I'm paper trading a FH U 1.5 goals filter that looks promising, but I need a few more weeks before deciding if it is profitable. I'm more than willing to share any of these.Background: Neuroscience.
Joined to learn about trading. More than happy with what I've learned and very aware that there is do much more.
I suppose the main thing I want is to learn more.
Goals? If I've broken even after a year of trading, I'll be happy. If I can continue to make slow and steady gains, I'll be ecstatic. Ideally, I'd like a bank of strategies that can be profitable. I hope that I just continue to enjoy trading.

@brian-clifford Welcome to the group, great to have you here! If you get stuck need anything just shout buddy.

hi , my name is brian clifford and am originally from manchester(united) and i am now retired. I joined BTC to learn about football and horse trading strategies , at the moment i am doing match betting but it isn't producing like it used to.I've done some horses and footie trades but i really need to get on top of the footie stats.
-
@james-morris The horses are prime for automation, especially the strategies which are shared in the horse thread. I personally don’t have much knowledge on them (I’m more football based) but have got on ok with them. I’ve never used BA but some of the guys have switched from that to BFBM, which I’ve found to be decent
-
@james-morris
Stick with hat you have got, it's there already matey. If you work through it and think you need additional then cross that bridge as and when
Oh yes, there's a lot going on here so focus on what you want to get from the community.
-
Hi @Lee-woodman and @Ryan-Carruthers thanks for your welcome.
I'm like a kid in a sweetshop at the moment... What with the Acorns, BF Bot and everything else I'm finding it difficult to pick "one thing" as I want to jump in to all of them!
Think I'll ease off on building my own thing and focus on using the tools already out there and data readily available. No point in building something before I know what it is. So I'll focus on automation for horses as I've not succeeded at that yet, probably automated dobbing and give manual scalping a rest. Ideally I'd use Bet Angel automation as I already have that unless BF Bot(?) is going to make it easier.
-
@james-morris Welcome to the group, seems you will fit in really well here.
There is a couple of threads on automation as well which will probably tickle your fancy as well.
