I was working at home that day and me and my boss were on the phone when he told me to turn the tv on. The first plane had hit we watched the second hit. Neither of us did any work that day. It was surreal.

@dan-mackinnon Iām not surprised itās a tough read, Iāll be honest I am not sure Iād get through it.
Thatās one of the most somber places Iāve ever been, crazy how busy it is around that area then as soon as you get into the memorial area it hits you like a ton of bricks.

Not to do with trading or personal development, but I see thereās a few documentaries about 9/11 on tv at the moment. Iāll be honest, I havenāt seen any. However, if anyone is interested in reading about it I would highly recommend āThe Only Plane in the Skyā by Garrett M. Graff. Itās a collection of individuals telling their stories of what happened that day. Itās on Audible and they get actors to voice different stories and use actual recordings. The stories of bravery and sacrifice are unbelievable. I do warn you though, it is a tough read. I struggled because of how emotional it is, but itās definitely worth it.
Not a book but another 9/11 recommendation. The album (and song) āThe Risingā by Bruce Springsteen. Released in 2002, itās loosely a concept album focusing on grief, and each song relates to individuals. He said in an interview itās more about the day after, and how people get on with their lives.
I am biased as I love the Boss so I would also recommend any Bruce Springsteen song!

@clare-taylor Iāve not listened to any F1, itās just something Iām interested in and have read a few books on. Iāll check out the 1% podcast and the atomic habits, theyāre definitely up my street!

@lee-woodman which f1 ones do you listen to? I donāt listen to any despite being a huge f1 fan.
Tailenders is a cricket podcast with Jimmy Anderson, Greg James and Felix White, itās aimed at people who are newish to cricket but itās very funny and Jimmy Anderson gives a nice current player angle.
I really enjoyed James Clear on the daily stoic Getting 1% better everyday and I listen to his full audiobook atomic habits on a podcast which found very thought provoking.
I mainly listen to cricket and true crime otherwise, I did listen to quite a bit of travel but I have stopped as I found it wasnāt enjoyable in covid.

@clare-taylor Anything about business, economics/finance, personal development, biographical, behavioural, sport (football,F1). I read quite a bit but itās just something to listen to as I drive

@lee-woodman something that is easy listening and quite funny is Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast (or as the cool kids call it RHLSTP). There's been loads of guests over the years so might be someone of interest to get started with.

Oh and checkout if your library has Libby or BorrowBox they have audible books to borrow, I donāt buy a book before I look on BorrowBox to see if they have it first

Iām after some more suggestions for podcasts if anyone can suggest some? I have a lot more driving with work now so need some more material to listen to. I use audible quite a lot but podcasts are good too

@dan-mackinnon I usually get them much quicker than the estimate, I reserved a book which said June 2022 and I actually got it in July 2021! But how they come up with the date seems to be almost nonsensical!
I donāt buy a book now until I have checked BorrowBox first!

@clare-taylor that is a downside. I really like Libby but I have no idea how they work out their waiting list. I've been waiting to borrow Dune for 6 months and my wait time is "several months" away!

@clare-taylor Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out. Loads of people I'd be interested in hearing from on that Knowledge Podcast.
I would also suggest if you have a library card you can access online libraries with lots of audiobooks via certain apps.

Really interesting thread. As a quick mention there is a podcast with Annie Duke I listened to last week; itās episode 37 of The Knowledge Podcast āGetting better by being wrongā which is around the same principles as the book.
Also the full audio book of Mark Mansonās book is also available as a podcast by Ground Sounds. I finished that yesterday and I am going to re-listen.
I find I have much more time to listen than read (I am able to work and listen to podcasts which is a fantastic benefit to my mundane job!)

That is literally the way I have traded really for years, I mean how I trade isn't sexy it's pretty boring really but it works.

AUGUST 2021
Following on from my last post, I passed my first stage to becoming chartered! Hopefully I can continue the good form and will be updating you all later in the year with even better news.Funnily enough Iāve been studying risk management as part of my training and can see a few similarities with trading. Iāve also readjusted my spreadsheet and saw the last two months were the biggest wins and losing months. July finished -25 pts but August was +39. I had adjusted my approach to risk over these 2 months and was possibly a bit too keen in July. Iāve identified these mistakes and realised they donāt suit my personality. However, as discussed on the Off Topic I wanted a staking plan that pushed me without being reckless. For me, that was changing my approach to fixed liabilities rather than laying for a fixed profit. Itās been a slow process of realising that a lot of strategies with trading are the same result but approached from different angles.
THE COMPOUND EFFECT by DARREN HARDY
This is free on Audible with your membership. Itās quite short and most of it you would have heard before. I imagine we all understand how small gains compounded quickly escalate. A couple of phrases worthy of a mention:- Success is not doing 5,000 things really well. Success is doing a handful of things really well 5,000 times.
- You make your choices and your choices make you.
- Whatās simple to do is also simple not to do. You need to take extreme ownership of your actions.
For the history nerds amongst you, I also enjoyed reading Churchillās Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare by Giles Milton, Gurkha by Kailash Lumbi and an Audible series called 24 Hours in Ancient Rome/ Ancient Greece/ Ancient Egypt/ Ancient China.
