@matt-wood Yeah honestly mate, I was so bad for not sticking with it but I think part of that was I wasn't seeing instant results. Read something earlier that summed it up for me; Strangers notice a difference in 4 weeks, close friends and family notice after 8 weeks and you notice yourself after 12. Obviously the time scales wont be absolute but I think the meaning behind it is probably right and I guess the message is to just stick to it
Thanks for that advice as well mate, it's not really something I'd given much thought to tbh. I'm on week 4 now and I would imagine the workouts will get more testing as the weeks and months go on. So far it has been okay though and tbh if there are bad habits it will probably be more me not paying proper attention than anything else.
I'll be honest, if I'd have had the right guidance I could have made the gym work for me but at the same time I can readily admit I am one lazy lazy bastard when I want to be. Yet, I'm quite good at motivating myself as well at the same time. It sounds like I'm being ridiculous but that's genuinely how my mind works haha. Then again I never really tried doing any work with any trainers in the gym but again I think I never really knew what I was doing when I was in there. My issue was (a bit like with trading tbh) I didnt really know how to do what I wanted to do if that makes sense.
Listen, if the missus likes a booty on me then it's bound to have it's advantages for me too

@matthew-biggins Great that you found something that works for you Thats the biggest part of the battle.
Only thing I would say, this is with my ex coach head on, with pure home workouts it will be very easy for you to develop bad lifting habits. A huge amount of my time was spent trying to undo bad habits. Our bodies are proper gits, they will 'cheat' at every lifting exercise if you let them. Having said that I dont know what your app is like, it may very well be top quality.
A shame the gym never stuck for you, I imagine if you had found a good coach it may have done. Too many rubbish coaches out there.
Oh and nothing wrong with a nice big man booty

Cracking on with this fitness lark. I've always felt uncomfortable in a gym and I'm not sure why but I think mainly because I don't really know what I'm doing and I've always had a scattergun approach to it.
My better half has got me on a personal trainer app which is costing me probably just less a month than a gym membership but it's basically set me up a training plan based on my goals, height, weight etc and theres also the options of meal plans too etc. I've set it to home workouts and all that's required is dumbells and resistance bands and I can honestly say I dont think I'd ever pay for a gym membership ever again. It's kind of everything I need to really start taking it seriously.
I've always struggled to stick at it and I can never be arsed but it's the first time I truly believe I'll stick to it. Tbh I'm glad my missus has basically set one up for me because I wouldn't have known where to start without it.
Tbh I was sceptical at first because I think it's one of those instagram trainers and I was convinced it was aimed at women at first but apparently it caters to both, I imagine also all set up on it by their other halves
At the very least I'll either end up either looking like the Hoff or end up with an arse like Nicki Minaj.

@chris-osborne Im afraid I think you will be proven right Still positive mental attitude is the way to tackle things.
-
@matt-wood lol I had to do that yesterday need to keep things in perspective.
Unfortunately I think this will last longer than 6 weeks hope Iβm wrong
-
Right a little word about mental health I think.
I have just had to have a serious word with myself as I have been a proper grumpy arsehole today! All because I cannot go to the gym for the next 6 weeks. Now I am extremely lucky in that I have a big double garage with some space set aside with dumbells and a bench, a trap bar and deadlifting surface. I put a pull up bar in the garden earlier this year too. Plenty of stuff to workout with. Add to this that we work from home and so far our work seems unaffected The mrs and me are in good health, we have two lovely dogs and live in a fantastic part of the country.
Instead of focusing on these positives I chose to spend the whole day today pissing about and moaning about having to do a dog-s**t workout.
Our mental health is largely in our control. I am sure I would have got much more out of my day and been less of an arse if I had stopped focusing on the tiny negative and enjoyed all the positives.
I am pretty sure Mr A. Lincoln said something like; "Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be".

@matt-wood Yes then the wife just laughs at me coming down the stairs ahahahaha!
Every chance I get! I actually feel better wearing barefoot trainers, Iβve lived in my everyday vivos for months then when at home been barefoot (with socks mind!) as soon as I put on other shoes it throws up a weird feeling lol
-
@ryan-carruthers Yes nice and simple, helps you keep your place if you get distracted.
3k is very good given that you are relatively new to runnig like this. Make sure you stretch those calves out regular at multiple times throughout the day.
Its a strange sensation when your calves are like that just feels like you cant move!
-
@matt-wood Love that Way of counting will work for me too, simple to the point and works.
Well the first one was 3K I run the whole run, was weird it felt great 1.5K like effortless. Woke for a pee in the night wow pure pain in calves lol.
-
@ryan-carruthers I guess you gotta do at least 2k to be a full run
I have counted paces before and it was far easier for me to only count when my right foot landed (so that would be 2 paces), count to 10, then hold out 1 finger. start again from 1, count to 10 hold out the 2nd finger. Whole hand is then 100 paces, hold out a finger on the other hand, start again with the original hand. When 2nd hand is open, 500 paces.
Helped me do it, but you might develop your own way.
-
@ryan-carruthers Haha I wouldn't dare try it myself
Sounds like you are making progress though. Maybe dont jump right to runs from the walks, try something like 2/3k walk 500 paces then run 500 paces. Make this the next step on from straight walking. Might help might not, but you never know until you try it
I will mega impressed if you ever do a whole run complete barefoot!!!

The 1000 mile walk looks great. I reckon Iβd go close to that anyway as I just love wandering off and going walkabout.
Mrs Woody seems to be excited by it and Iβm happier for her cause I was starting to see the downside of remote working by the backend of 2020 and her mental health whilst not concerning was definitely noticeable so happy to get walking in 2021. Should work well with a dry January. -

@james-everard 100% agree with this, I always feel better after being outside for a walk
I agree WFH since MArch there are days when I dont leave the house going to make sure I do something everyday.
1000 miles a year works out at less than three miles a day so should be fine once i've got going
Best way try doing a little every day, when you mention 3miles a day it really isn't that far when you get used to it and just an hour or so out of your day. The fresh air , seeing human beings and nature really is good for your mind and the exercise is great for your heart.
-
@james-everard You are spot on with this mate. Mental health is as important as physical health and all exercise (tailored to the individual) absolutely helps with mental health as well as they physical aspect.
@Chris-Osborne I know what you mean. Both of us here have been WFH now for 4 years and it is so easy, especially with all the mod cons, in todays world to simply not go out of the house. Im so grateful I have the dogs as that forces me outside.
You will probably end up smashing through the 1000miles. I think the 10k steps a day for most people comes out at roughly the 5miles mark.
