@martin-futter Re the weight changes during lockdown, maybe it is linked with mood.
I mean in that the first lockdown the general feeling I got from people and the nation etc was one of glumness/depression/depressed mood. This would lead a lot of people to eat more.
2nd lockdown, although it was a lockdown, it felt much more upbeat and positive than the 1st one.
3rd lockdown, back to doom and gloom again. (also riding off the back of xmas, I put 9lbs on in 3 days over xmas )

@martin-futter One simple way to cut down your weight a little would be to lower the amount of carbs you eat and replace the calories with protein.
Or try time restricted eating, chose a period of say 10hrs to eat your food in and dont eat outside of that.
Tennis is MEGA hard on the joints, particularly ankles knees and hips. I put singles tennis right up there in terms of 'tough on the body' with boxing and mma. Mostly due to the fact that your'e on your own in the event, no breaks, and you need to be super durable.
I walk the dogs past the local bowling green here in Ross, pre-covid, they always looked like they were enjoying themselves it did get quite competative a few times when I was there though

Man these lockdowns are weird for my diet.
Lockdown 1 - Gained weight, actually quite a lot
Lockdown 2 - Lost that weight and more
Lockdown 3 - Up goes the weight again!Playing tennis seems to make no difference to my weight, I eat more when I play so if anything it gets worse. Also, finding it quite hard on my joints nowadays especially the singles.
My lad goes to nursery next to a bowling green, I think it may be time for me to join!

@matt-wood I do have a big mirror tbf but not much room around it to do everything, could do with shifting things around
I have no doubt that a trainer could have got the best out of me at the gym. I know I said I'd never get another gym membership again, but I do think I'd consider it if I had a set plan about what I wanted to achieve in there.

@matthew-biggins Sounds like what you read is pretty much spot on. When I used to get young lads as clients they all wanted instant results and I had to explain to them the ONLY secret with fitness/weightlifting is consistency. As a new lifter your first 12-18months will be the best for seeing changes, after that it becomes a lifetime grind Ive been doing it over 20 years now and I would count myself lucky if I put on 3-5lbs of muscle in a year.
Diet is also where you can make huge changes to your appearance.
Hopefully your app has teaching points around how to perform exercises so you can be on the lookout for bad form. Sounds super silly but if you have a big mirror you can train in front of use it to see how you perform certain moves and 'catch' yourself lifting badly.
I think, obviously not having met you, a good trainer could have helped make the gym work for you. They would have got what you wanted to achieve and shown you how to get there.
Well mate, I got a booty from years of martial arts plus good genetics and it does indeed have advantages with the missus

Ooohh I missed that, hopefully it was just a poor choice of words on Johnson's part. Doesn't help with Starmer running around all over the place screaming about how Johnson MUST lockdown. Politicians should be much more careful with their words

@matt-wood Yeah honestly mate, I was so bad for not sticking with it but I think part of that was I wasn't seeing instant results. Read something earlier that summed it up for me; Strangers notice a difference in 4 weeks, close friends and family notice after 8 weeks and you notice yourself after 12. Obviously the time scales wont be absolute but I think the meaning behind it is probably right and I guess the message is to just stick to it
Thanks for that advice as well mate, it's not really something I'd given much thought to tbh. I'm on week 4 now and I would imagine the workouts will get more testing as the weeks and months go on. So far it has been okay though and tbh if there are bad habits it will probably be more me not paying proper attention than anything else.
I'll be honest, if I'd have had the right guidance I could have made the gym work for me but at the same time I can readily admit I am one lazy lazy bastard when I want to be. Yet, I'm quite good at motivating myself as well at the same time. It sounds like I'm being ridiculous but that's genuinely how my mind works haha. Then again I never really tried doing any work with any trainers in the gym but again I think I never really knew what I was doing when I was in there. My issue was (a bit like with trading tbh) I didnt really know how to do what I wanted to do if that makes sense.
Listen, if the missus likes a booty on me then it's bound to have it's advantages for me too

@matthew-biggins Great that you found something that works for you Thats the biggest part of the battle.
Only thing I would say, this is with my ex coach head on, with pure home workouts it will be very easy for you to develop bad lifting habits. A huge amount of my time was spent trying to undo bad habits. Our bodies are proper gits, they will 'cheat' at every lifting exercise if you let them. Having said that I dont know what your app is like, it may very well be top quality.
A shame the gym never stuck for you, I imagine if you had found a good coach it may have done. Too many rubbish coaches out there.
Oh and nothing wrong with a nice big man booty

Cracking on with this fitness lark. I've always felt uncomfortable in a gym and I'm not sure why but I think mainly because I don't really know what I'm doing and I've always had a scattergun approach to it.
My better half has got me on a personal trainer app which is costing me probably just less a month than a gym membership but it's basically set me up a training plan based on my goals, height, weight etc and theres also the options of meal plans too etc. I've set it to home workouts and all that's required is dumbells and resistance bands and I can honestly say I dont think I'd ever pay for a gym membership ever again. It's kind of everything I need to really start taking it seriously.
I've always struggled to stick at it and I can never be arsed but it's the first time I truly believe I'll stick to it. Tbh I'm glad my missus has basically set one up for me because I wouldn't have known where to start without it.
Tbh I was sceptical at first because I think it's one of those instagram trainers and I was convinced it was aimed at women at first but apparently it caters to both, I imagine also all set up on it by their other halves
At the very least I'll either end up either looking like the Hoff or end up with an arse like Nicki Minaj.
