@keith-anderson For core work you can’t go wrong with an ab wheel and some planks, different variations. 3x15 minute a week should sort you out!

Nice to hear you’re both doing well.
I started training MMA in the summer and just joined another BJJ school which is more laid back.
I don’t really have any goals other than trying to enjoy myself. I was really anxious the first few times despite having done martial arts before, but only realised it’s the biggest group of people I’ve been around since pre-lockdown. Some days it can be quite intense and stressful but hopefully it’ll help me deal with some mental challenges
Never tried martial arts but I do wish I’d given it a good go at some point. I know I could start it but couldn’t do it aswell as the gym so it would be instead
I’m glad it’s helping you mentally…..exercise is a great tool for that

How’s everything been getting on with their health and fitness? Any major goals or changes for the coming year?
I’ve got more serious with the gym this year and prioritised it a lot more. Im enjoying it, noticing a lot more and really taken it to the next level. I’ve put on 30lbs with quite a lot of decent size added. I’m about to go on an aggressive cut to trim 20lbs, I’ll be doing PSMF for 8 weeks combined with IF before reviewing where I’m at. I’ll then be going into a maintenance phase and then long bulk. I like being big but want to do it slightly leaner
I’ve definitely got some bad, deep rooted eating habits so I’m planning on concentrating on the nutrition side, mainly with regards to emotional/habitual eating
I’ve quit smoking aswell this year which I’m really pleased with. I actually get no cravings and see it as more of a release or escape than missing out on anything
Well done, especially with the smoking!
I've been off Coca-Cola and all fizzy drinks for 8 or 9 months now. Stopped exercising (because it's dark & cold). Will probably start core exercises as I have discomfort in my lower back. I'm under 12 stone. Ideally, I'd like to be around 11 stone
Fizzy drinks and sugar is a big one….I’m terrible with sugar (eating not drinking) and it’s definitely something I need to knock on the head. I find it’s addictive, if I stop then I don’t want it but if I have some then I want more!

@lee-woodman plenty of fitness goals, whether any will be achieved is a different matter!
Are you the fitness equivalent of a guy who wants to be a trader but only signs up to BTC for a day?
I’d say with anything fitness just to do something you like doing rather than what is optimal. It’s easy to do what you’re supposed to, hate it and then drop it!

Excellent to see people doing well here
Similar to Lee I decided to really make one last push (until I'm 45) for size. At my training age I probably won't make much progress without some special sauce but I have to try to get it out of my head.
Started a long bulk in the summer and managed to put on nearly 20lbs without getting too fluffy. Covid derailed things a little in sept but have been back at it since.
A big thing I have found is joint issues. I simply cannot move the weight I used to be able to without something hurting. Switched to slightly lower weights and MUCH more volume. This worked for a while but left elbow shoulder and wrist are playing up again. Have an issue with my left bicep too which got me really angry as it meant no back training and no bicep training.
Will be doing an aggressive cut through Jan to clear the Christmas crap out. Probably do 3 full body sessions a week with 3 cardio on alternate days.
Congrats to @Lee-woodman for kicking the smoking, well done. and to @Keith-Anderson for staying off the fizzy stuff

@keith-anderson Congrats on kicking the coke habit Simple progression on the walking will keep up your loss. 15 mins twice a day this month, next month add 5mins to each walk, another 5 the month after etc.
If you still crave fizzy, try sparkling water. Kinda tricks the body.

UPDATE:
I've totally off the Coca-Cola now for about 5 weeks. I've managed to go walking 15 minutes twice a day. I've lost 1 stone in five weeks, just by doing the above. Tonight I started the 10 minutes strength workout on the Fitness + App. I still haven't modified my food intake / diet yet.
My 1st target weight was 12 stone. I would now like to get to 11.5 stone now. at 41 years old I feel like I'm on the right track.
Any weight training workouts I should try?
Weight training in 10mins?
With a little space in the garden I would do something like:
10 bodyweight squats, 10 press ups, 10 inverted rows (see below) then a farmers walk for at least 20 steps with each leg and something heavy.
Have a few mins break then repeat 2 more times. When you get better, add another round, then another etc.inverted row is an upside down press up. You can do it in the garden with a couple of sturdy chairs and a solid pole.
excuse my effort in paint You could do the same thing on a railing or using a good rope hanging from a tree of something else solid.
This routine should give you a general strength and help lose weight. Also is quick and you could do it every other day if you wanted.

Huge congrats to big Tom Stoltman, retained his Worlds Strongest man title! Massive achievement, last athlete to win back to back titles was the living legend Brian Shaw in 2016.
Good Rangers man too!
He achieved so much in spite of that horrible affliction. All the more reason to admire the guy.
Totally, what he has done is nothing short of amazing. Gets a bit of awareness out there for people with his condition too, hopefully inspires as well.

Some of the more worrying things I learned about, some years ago, from high levels of insulin resistance are NAFLD and in women POS.
On a basic level though someone would just flat out wear their pancreas out until it gave up and stopped functioning.

@matt-wood I was listening to a podcast and they said one of the biggest threats to our safety in the western world is diabetes. But it’s not edgy or easy to sell on the media so we don’t think of it.
In the world today you are more likely to die from overeating than you are starving.
Nice little cheery listen for the evening
Haha yep stuff like that will always cheer you up
There is now becoming an accepted 'stance' in the medical world that there is a type 3 diabetes. This being dementia. There is more and more evidence piling up to show that people with chronic high insulin resistance are at a high risk of it causing some form of dementia in later life.
You are 100% right about it not 'selling' in the media though. Diabetes is too much of a long burn issue in people for the media and activists to jump on so it gets ignored largely.
