Christopher McDougall - Born To Run is the book that inspired me to start running (not barefoot but just in general), after literally decades of really not seeing the appeal and refusing to do more than about a mile
Orthotists, podiatrists etc hate it apparently because it caused a ton of people to go out and break their feet by switching to barefoot shoes. To be fair though, I do remember him cautioning against making the switch too quickly.

@john-folan Haha yep a 50th will probably set you back a little :party_popper:
If you use your BP monitor, best to take either 3 or 5 readings at once and average them.
Keep up the good work, apart from next week though
Yeah Iโve sussed that one. Deffo canโt rely on the 1st one

Good to see this thread still going. Iโm still doing an hour of cardio/weights three times a week. Even more important now I am approaching 50. By approaching I mean my birthday is next week lol.
Iโve got a blood pressure monitor as well and I have regular 3 month blood tests to make sure my levels are all as they should be.
I am working to lose that last stone. Itโs coming off gradually. Although I will probably have a setback over the next week .

@matt-wood I am matey, managed to get uptown about 6.5K now!
I've noticed that I am slightly taller when I run for the duration of the run, I've done a lot of running over the years and been coached etc... I always started strong but by the end could end up leaning slightly - ZERO chance in barefoot lol your heels will scream at you.
I have noticed that I am not as tired running barefoot, the DOMs aren't as bad - except in the calves lol
Which ones did you go for?
I also recommend the book 'The Cool Impossible' that's made a HUGE difference.

@Ryan Are you still running in your barefoot shoes?
Got a pair myself at Christmas and if it ever stops raining here I'm keen to try them out and start running again.
One of the reasons I wanted them is the reviews and studies I have seen about them making you run with a more upright posture due to foot placement on the road. This is something Id really benefit from due to my lower back.
Have you found your natural running posture change since using them at all?

@matt-wood That is crazy!
If you see the clip it really is madness! I think Derek from More Plates More Dates covered it.
Tiny little woman trying to squat 4 plates a side.

Just over 2 weeks since quitting smoking, got to say its not the easy thing to do but well worth the effort. And even though i have stopped i have to be conscious that its not just something i dont have to ever think about dealing with again
Anyone who thinks about doing it should read Allen Carr's 'Easy way to stop smoking' a couple of times. It definitely offers a shift in perspective from the usual thought process of quitting smoking being a negative process of depriving yourself
Agree with all of the above. The 2 week milestone is a big one, well done - it took me a few goes to give up and every single time, the two week point was where I had a lot of dreams about smoking and then after that, the cravings reduced massively!

Lyle was/is a smart man. Really does know his stuff. Whilst I have come to believe that every programme should be made to suit an individual you really cannot go wrong with his stuff.
If John Meadows youtube channel is still up I think Lyle did some bits on there. Also seem to remember him appearing on Jeff Nipards channel a while back.
For some more modern stuff have a look at Menno Henselmans. He is another smart man who knows his stuff.
My problem now is I have so many old injuries and niggles and joint issues I have to do what I can instead of what I want to do. Still no excuses I can still make progress

Id forgot about him but i used to like reading his stuff, he knows what hes on about! My routine is actually similar to that one and its working well, pretty simple and obvious when you think about it but with good balance.
You dont really hear from him now, i might have to dig out the old stuff i had from him
