No I am not a sadist!!I’ve never done this but heard a lot about it. I might start the next time I have a shower. I’ll aim for a minute but might only last 10 seconds

No I am not a sadist!!Funny you should say that because I read up on cold exposure and decided this is quite an easy addition….so I’m literally planning on switching to cold for the last minute of my shower after every workout

I didn't used to be able to run more than a mile without my knee hurting. I dropped a couple of stone on keto (I'm just over 13.5 now) and kept dabbling in running and found that one day I was just able to carry on for 6 miles. That was enough for the appeal of running to reveal itself!
I enjoy building my own workouts. I like trying different exercises, varying grips to see what I like. I’ve picked up a good idea of what works for me so I don’t think I could personally use an app like that….though I completely see the benefit!
Yeah I never really found one that did what I wanted, but you can tell it what equipment you've got available, how you want to progress etc and it will just tell you exactly what you need to do on this next set to achieve your goals. I think it helped to remove excuses in a way.
I also like that on lower weight exercise like a single arm dumbbell move, you can't always just throw 2 more kilos on as a way of progressing, so it will get you to do more reps instead with the same weight, before eventually getting you to increase the weight and lower the rep range again.

@matt-wood I’ve put on 30lbs so I’m now about 200lbs and a lot of it is added muscle. I feel at that point now of being a bit ‘doughy’. I can still see that I have abs but they’re fast disappearing! . I always feel one bit of food away from being bloated and stodgy aswell
As soon as I cut for 2 weeks I will probably feel flat and tiny again but I’m going to lose 20lbs and cut hard for 8 weeks, even if I try to convince myself I’m lean enough. I’ll then review if I need to go further or bulk again. I also want to test how my body feels with certain foods, what types of food and situation sees me carrying less water weight and feeling less bloated

Yes walking is great! It’s hard to over exercise and is brilliant for body and mind. I’ve got an adult husky and just got another pup so get plenty of walking in….the kids love it too. Either walking locally or finding some hills, parks, countryside to walk in massively chills me out.
If you struggle to fit in specific exercise then you can’t go too far wrong with ensuring you hit 10k steps per day. Being healthy and doesn’t have to come from specifically going to the gym, running or cycling

@chris-osborne a type of exercise I always think is underrated is walking. Either get a decent audiobook or podcast and give that a listen, or go with nothing and just observe what's around you. It's not just easy exercise but good for your brain too

I really got into running this year, only twice a week max but I can happily bang out 10 miles now.
This was also the year I discovered (after 23 years of lifting!) the importance of varying my workouts. I always used to do the same routine for way too long as it's a hassle putting together a new programme. Got the Alpha Progression app a few months back which basically does it for you with a few taps. It's the first app that's ever dragged me away from my old spreadsheet method of tracking workouts as it's the only one that's had everything I needed.

Had a lot going on personally this year and lost a lot of motivation and suffered as a result.
Need to make changes to diet and get back into swimming more regularly and walking every day

Just started seeing someone who runs around 7-8 miles most mornings. This may push me into getting fit again

@keith-anderson For core work you can’t go wrong with an ab wheel and some planks, different variations. 3x15 minute a week should sort you out!

I started training MMA in the summer and just joined another BJJ school which is more laid back.
I don’t really have any goals other than trying to enjoy myself. I was really anxious the first few times despite having done martial arts before, but only realised it’s the biggest group of people I’ve been around since pre-lockdown. Some days it can be quite intense and stressful but hopefully it’ll help me deal with some mental challenges
Never tried martial arts but I do wish I’d given it a good go at some point. I know I could start it but couldn’t do it aswell as the gym so it would be instead
I’m glad it’s helping you mentally…..exercise is a great tool for that

I’ve got more serious with the gym this year and prioritised it a lot more. Im enjoying it, noticing a lot more and really taken it to the next level. I've been off Coca-Cola and all fizzy drinks for 8 or 9 months now. Stopped exercising (because it's dark & cold). Will probably start core exercises as I have discomfort in my lower back. I'm under 12 stone. Ideally, I'd like to be around 11 stone
Fizzy drinks and sugar is a big one….I’m terrible with sugar (eating not drinking) and it’s definitely something I need to knock on the head. I find it’s addictive, if I stop then I don’t want it but if I have some then I want more!

I’d say with anything fitness just to do something you like doing rather than what is optimal. It’s easy to do what you’re supposed to, hate it and then drop it!

Similar to Lee I decided to really make one last push (until I'm 45) for size. At my training age I probably won't make much progress without some special sauce but I have to try to get it out of my head.
Started a long bulk in the summer and managed to put on nearly 20lbs without getting too fluffy. Covid derailed things a little in sept but have been back at it since.
A big thing I have found is joint issues. I simply cannot move the weight I used to be able to without something hurting. Switched to slightly lower weights and MUCH more volume. This worked for a while but left elbow shoulder and wrist are playing up again. Have an issue with my left bicep too which got me really angry as it meant no back training and no bicep training.
Will be doing an aggressive cut through Jan to clear the Christmas crap out. Probably do 3 full body sessions a week with 3 cardio on alternate days.
Congrats to @Lee-woodman for kicking the smoking, well done. and to @Keith-Anderson for staying off the fizzy stuff
