Do you have a clear recollection of when you got the feeling that you were "in control" of this - what I mean by that is when you realized that you felt confident about your strategy and your strike rate etc., and no longer questioned everything you did after a loss? I am still doubting myself every time I hit a losing trade and wonder if it's the start of a bad run etc.

I think you have to find what works for you. A LTD at HT worked brilliantly for me, but it isn’t for everyone. I know people who make decent money backing under 2.5 goals, but that would utterly bore me. Imagine having to watch a game and hope for no goals?!

I found excuses when my trades where unsuccessful. ‘if only’ was a phrase I used frequently. ‘If only he scored that penalty’; ‘If only that league had VAR’, ‘if only the officials played more injury time’

The phrase ‘if only’ stopped me doing the necessary reflection, retrospection and self correction that I needed. I drew up a list of things that where stopping me reaching my goal. I looked at that list before I placed any trade. It’s important to know your ‘Achilles Heel’, but also to know what you’re good at.

@matt-wood its hard to grasp at first as you might only make £10 in a month with a £100 bank on one strategy which seems ridiculous for a months work. This is something i struggled with at first coming from making thousands matched betting

Thats the plan. Hard part is the slow growth in the bank and the NOT trading part. But the only way to do this long term is to do it slow and steady.

I have been here 3months now and must have got lucky for the first two as made 50% on my bank. Last month though had first losing month. Plan now is to listen to the gold nuggets of advice on here, ONE sport, ONE strategy and focus on getting it right. Have to accept the bank will grow slowly but will be done the right way.

    Catch that Green!

Ive been a member about a year now and i wasted about 6-7 months not listening to what the more experienced members were saying. I started listening around 3-4 months ago and havnt had a losing week since.

@keith-anderson totally accept that Keith and appreciate your comments, I think we all get carried away with the excitement at first then think we can continue our own way but if we'd just listened at the start we'd have gotten there much faster and without so much money being lost..the mind is a tough thing to master isn't it. Great to have your feedback thanks 👍

@keith-anderson I wish I did mate but totally get what you mean by behaviour just need to learn how to apply the correct behaviour ... an important word for me is consistency if I can be consistent regardless of good days or bad I can succeed. September is a big month for me as I intend trading one strategy from one filter and nothing else to test my theory.

You’ve been a member of BTC for about a year, Ben. One strategy from one sport is what all newbie traders are told to do. You just didn’t do it. This is why trading is behavioural.

I’m not being critical, just pointing out the obvious. You already know this - you just haven’t be able to execute it yet.

I was the exact same. I would’ve been successful faster if I just listened to the advice. I couldn’t though - not for a year or so. Discipline has to be worked on.

It was the Holy Grail for me too. So it can be done. You probably know more about trading than I do.

Trading is behavioural. To have success in trading I had to change my behaviour.

Do you still upscale with the bank or is there really no point anymore?

Not since before lockdown. I haven’t really been trading since football returned.

I’m only really interested in the big leagues now or those matches that are on tv.

Question for those of you doing this full time (I have no grasp on how many people here do!) - what do you tend to do in the downtime? Does your bank carry you through comfortably or is it a bit of a struggle?

Bit of a personal question but I’m merely curious! Any answers appreciated, understand if its a bit personal 😁

The bank carries me through. I trade a lot less, probably because I no longer need to build a bank.

That was the most difficult part, trying to build the bank. I certainly traded too much and it took up a lot of time.

Afternoon. Hope things are good 🙂

Obviously I am a beginner like you but for me IF, big IF, I make it to pro, or even semi pro then I envisage the downtime spent researching investments. Things like ETFs, outright stocks and shares purchases. I will include Football Index in this too. Plus for me I will always have a few clients I help with nutrition as I will always be interested in that. Maybe now and then a PT client too although less interested in that now.

Cool cool, good response! I don’t have any other investments really, other than some money in Peer to Peer Lending, but good point, I imagine of this kicks off you’ll want to diversify!
