@matt-wood whenever Iβve done it with sheets Iβve not bothered with the dates as it always throws a wobbly on the month / day order. I only realised the other day if you highlight cells you can do quick averages / sum / median results with the bottom right hand corner.
Useful for quickly checking a set date period profit loss for instance

@matt-wood I usually get where I want to be but go round the houses a bit with various if & and formulas that would give an experienced spreadsheet developer nightmares but as long it works Iβm happy
-
@bottlabroon Yep I think simple might be better. I made the mistake today of trying to learn more advanced things in spreadsheets, what a rabbit hole!
-
@matt-wood I keep things pretty simple and have cells for each month with a simple sum formula whereby the current month sums to a cell way down the sheet which I then update at month end to the closing cell and start the next month from there.....
-
@chris-osborne It does, and I have just done a quick read, I may very well be misunderstanding this, but that would seem overkill for what I want to do.
Basically looking for a one cell formula to auto calculate the current months total p/l.
=ArrayFormula(SUMIF(MONTH(A6:A),MONTH(TODAY()),R6:R)) this is what I had tried but #DIV/0! came up, not sure where I'm asking to divide anything.
-
@matt-wood does google sheets have such thing as pivot tables?
-
Any google sheet experts know how to extract the current months profit. Would mean using the date column to qualify the chosen data set then telling it to sum the p/l column.
I can do it if I add a helper column which extracts the month from the date and then use that but this seems long winded to me.
A quick google lead me to array formulae...

@dan-mackinnon I know right and if I do Iβll just go sit myself in the naughty corner and if we have matching trades will nod to myself and not post.
-
@james-woodroffe it's OK. You can't jinx him 2 days in a row
