I got booted off betfair on one of my accounts a few years ago. They didn’t say much, just closed it, but after a bit of pushing they said it was data requests. I wasn’t even using software at the time, it was just logged in 24/7 refreshing at the highest rate. I have since changed it to log out after a period of inactivity
-
People must be abusing data requests big time... Wonder what the level is or if you can find out how close to the edge you are

@Richard-Latimer smarkets just cannot compete with betfair, works with people with small banks but unless its champs league games or the big sunday games its laughable compared to betfair.
@Ben-Dobie im almost 100% sure its about data requests. Those people are probably scalping and compounding their winnings every day. We have had a few members on here be warned from betfair about overuse. Its funny they offer out the use of API so that people can build these things yet punish them entirely for then taking advantage of it. The funny thing is peter webb probably the biggest influence with his bet angel software must be taking advantage from data requests to build models, he wont get touched yet its his profile that im sure is "risk criteria" material for them.
We have to remember betfair are the only exchange you can use long term. Smarkets and Betdaq are handy when it big matches or if you have a small bank but they just cant compete. Markets are built from liquidity providers and market makers, until a heavy chunk of users decide to move some activity over to the others we are at the mercy of betfair. Premium charge inclusions should really have been a catalyst for change of platform yet its survived that. Not much else we can do but hope someone with big marketing budgets comes along or the dream of the americans allowing for betting to be widespread and get an exchange from them.
So it's play it carefully, because there's absolutely no alternative if they decide you don't fit.

What apps do you all tend to use for updates? I use SofaScore primarily but want a second one. Flash Scores is very unreliable for me for some reason, sometimes I’ll get none or just some of the notifications for a game. KO, HT, 2nd Half and goals is what I need, doesn’t have to be great info as it’s more as a prompt, it just needs to be reliable!
I use SofaScore if I'm on my laptop as its easy to use. In terms of phone Apps Flash Scores have just released an update and most of the bugs have gone, it's been working really well for me over the last week. All the alerts comes through and it doesn't randomly crash anymore

I used to use futbol24 but like you I now use sofascore. Does the job well enough most of the time. I find they are all a little flaky some of the time.

@stuart-capstick thanks for your take on it mate, not that the levels I use will be of concern to them but I automate quite a bit now on my strat purely because I don’t have the time to place each bet.
I can see what you’re saying about the scalping and I suppose they’re trying to look responsible and with regards to snobbery I think you’re bang on.
It’s a bit of a pain as I always thought that exchange accounts would be safe
-
Very often this is related to automation. Lots of people are using bots to record data from many markets (millions of data requests). Betfair, not surprisingly, regards this as a wee bit cheeky and closes accounts. Not sure about the morality of this but I imagine it's tucked away in the T+C.
Sometimes, though, from what I've seen, they are closing accounts of those who scalp using large amounts. Their logic is that if they lost such a large amount (unlikely if scalping with a stop-loss) they could not replace it.
Funny how they are now concerned about the welfare of traders, but you never hear about closure of accounts of those using casino- far more likely to be implicated in a gambling problem.
Another example of hypocrisy (and likely snobbery) is that there seems to be no clamour to close the accounts of forex traders and the like. Somehow, trading on the stock exchanges is less risky.... or more likely doesn't involve such "vulgar" and "plebian" activities such as football or horse-racing.
-
@richard-latimer don’t think they’re much better mate
-
Would be interested in any of the full timers take on it, at the minute it’s not my main source of income but I’d like it to be one day
-
Never seen that

Yeah, ages ago. Not sure if ever sorted.

Suppose at least there's smarkets

Premium charge accounts as well apparently. All his tweets to Betfair cs met with the usual bollocks about sending a DM so they can look into his account even though it's a generic question.
