It's a really interesting one, I am actually for it you have to play 2 legs anyways so why should there be an advantage for an away goal?

Likely as well when it comes into play is for something anyways like knockout stages of champs league so surely the teams are motivated!

Will away teams push for that goal in the 1st leg knowing that it doesn't count double anymore and knowing the 2nd leg is at there home ground. Will see

Also if you play on a Weds or Thurs play extra time and pens how is that going to effect your game on the Saturday or Sunday playing another 30 mins. Especially if you are away 2nd leg deep in europe somewhere. Im betting the big managers arent keen on it

This is why we must be wary of trading teams playing in Europe mid week before... Air travel will have an affect let alone extra time πŸ˜‰

I don't know about that. I'm sure they'd rather play the additional minutes than go out on away goals.

@keith-anderson i think teams will play the same way. Just because the 2nd leg the home team will have the advantage of extra time and penalties in there home ground. Must be some sort of advantage there

    Interesting!

@keith-anderson doesn’t really bother me in all fairness although ask me that next season if we go out of Europe on away goals

So what do we think of the 'Away Goal' rule being scrapped from next season? Will it produce more goals in the first leg? If so, that'll be a great trading opportunity. Time will tell

Just out of interest; the first team to be eliminated on the 'Away Goal' rule was my team Glentoran in the European Cup. We drew 1-1 with Benfica in Belfast and drew 0-0 with Benfica at the Stadium of Light. We where the first European Team to stop Benfica scoring at their home ground, in European football.

Italy for one tick - it's tomorrow I know but the graph and market looks solid to start a little earlier than normal on this.

So as we move into last 16 of the Euros I thought it would be a good time to update on my progress trading the Euro's.

    Round 1
During this round I mostly employed Keith's lay u1.5 approach, I left this as set & forget because in my opinion if you're looking to trade out then we should be looking to trade in.

Not trading the Lay u1.5 approach is just my opinion and I know Keith does an excellent job doing it his way, he will start laying scores etc. at HT if 0-0 and will not only avoid losing but start to hit double bubble.

It works really well for Keith but the jury's still out for me.

    P&L results from round 1... -0.5pts

    Round 2
Round 2 and I switched from Keith's Lay u1.5 approach to my preferred Split Stake method (trading), no right or wrong here guys, It's just my trading upbringing making me feel more comfortable and I wanted to test between different approaches (yes am fully aware of small sample size πŸ˜‰ )

    P&L results from round 2... -0.5pts

So, interestingly when using both approaches as the staple trade/bet both weeks produced similar results!!!

    Round 3
Round 3 and I mostly stuck with my preferred Split Stake o1.5 trade and yet again it worked fine... Didn't measure results against Keith's lay u1.5 method so have no comparison to offer. Yet again the SHG proved to be the sticking point and whilst the straight LCS in the Portugal v France game proved positive (odds were crazy low for this 3.5 @ HT so a no brainer) it's only 1 event to gauge by.

    P&L results from round 3... 1.0pt

So a better week in the 3rd round of matches and it's a shame this couldn't have been replicated in the previous 2 match days. There were less trades than the previous 2 rounds although this was no doubt largely due to the fact some teams were already qualified and not enough to play for.

For complete transparency I have attached a spreadsheet which is updating all of my trades during the tournament and you're welcome to browse through and look through my tournament activities (you will find a link in my signature).

Whilst my results show scratch in trading, fortunately, due to a mistake in the Turkey v Wales match (not recorded as this was not an intended trade) I did gain an extra point there (removed red on the 1st goal but forgot to cancel my final 2 queued back bets which kicked in late in the game) which basically leaves me 1pt green for the tournament (to date).

I will continue to look for any edges which may present themselves during the last 16 and I wish everybody success in their pursuit of profit in the Euros πŸ’ͺ πŸ‘ 🀞
