@angus-macleod no worries. Once the liquidity is up you’ll get a good indication. The favs tend to change a lot closer to the off. I’ve been caught out a few times while scalping!!
Scalping was what I was doing initially up until they cancelled the UK and Irish racing, last 10mins or so things can get pretty mental alright! Was a bit wary of trying to scalp international racing as I read somewhere that the liquidity was pretty low so decided to try this lay the field with smaller stakes instead.

Bit of fun with the first race... Doing in Simulation mode
Ooops... Forgot to hit the keep button lol
Did anybody do this race, looks like 2 or 3 may have hit the 1.8

@keith-dow awesome mate, cheers for that. I'll check back nearer the time and see whats what.
-
@angus-macleod It's probably not worth reading too much into the market just now. I starts to take shape around 20 mins before the off and you'll get a definitive feel for the odds in the 5 mins before the off. It's looking likely that a few will hit the mark.

@keith-dow What other kind of entertainment do you want really? just going through the card just now and spotting a couple of races that seem to have favourites below 4.0. Anything stand out to you that might be worth jumping on?
-
@angus-macleod Hey mate. I'll certainly be on the Tampa races tonight. Bit of Saturday night entertainment!

Afternoon Gents, first post on this forum. Been following this thread for a while and have now finally plucked up the courage to post! Complete newbie with horse racing, tried this strategy yesterday for the first time and had 2 small profits so quite chuffed with that.
Anyone looking at trading the Tampa race card later today?

@charles-cartwright Cheers Charles learning lots from you guys really appreciate. I was looking earlier on and made notes of some of the courses not to touch. Don't want to touch harness racing !. So if i see a race card and the race type says either pacers or trotters won't touch with a barge pole. Cheers for the explanation

@charles-cartwright Thanks Charles , will gradually get used to which courses will have the most liquidity etc. Just looking at some of the races this morning do you know what type of race is pace M. Obviously know handicaps, maidens etc but not heard of that type of race and can't seem to find any info on the internet
Pacers and trotters are the two types of harness racing. They are required to run with different gaits. It's all a bit complicated.
This is where the use of a filter like BFBM comes in. You can simply filter those races out and never have to be concerned with them if you don't want to trade them.

@richard-latimer Yes in the red no change there lol. Luckily i am doing very small stakes so hopefully can turn it around . Nothing under 3.5 i go for preferably 3.8 or above and 5 runners under 10.0

@richard-latimer I only started doing this strategy yesterday so have very little results . I have traded 10 races , 4 lost ( only 1 horse went under 1.82) , and 5 had two horses get below 1.82 and one of the races have had 3 . Just a case of recording details of which courses , type of race( maiden, handicap etc) number of runners and length race has the best strike rate, will take time to determine this but i think we have plenty on our hands lol
So you're in the red so far? I've tried a few times myself but once I didn't notice the face was short, another time the fave under 4.0, last time was almost. Not had a winner yet.

@richard-latimer Hi Richard all very much learning for me with horses but a good time to learn i think. The strategy of laying the field i believe can be successful, just learning to not trade on certain courses etc. For instance looking at the Australian racing on Betfair it doesn't explain if it is a standard horse race or a harness race. I only want to be trading standard horse racing for this strategy but Betfair doesn't give these details. Looking on the bet365 site the following courses appear to be harness racing and greyhounds only-
Menangle
Albion park
Globe Derby
BunburyThen of course Sweden has races but they never go inplay so they will never be part of this strategy.
Looking at the rules for this trade the first race that meets this criteria is the Tampa Bay Downs at 19.30pm 14 runners , 1 mile maiden and 5 horses are under 10.0 oddsDidn't realise that about Sweden so good to know. What percentage of races you have done so far came back in the positive and what percentage of races matched 3 rather than just 2?

Am I right in thinking nothing fits until at least 17:30 when Tampa starts? The 17:30 doesn't look any good either but just so I can rule out all the afternoon's dross haha!
