    Does anyone use stop losses in live trading? Some of my big lay strategies perform a fair bit better using a stop loss according to the backtest. Not unrealisticly tight ones, talking about stuff around 60 ticks. Wondering if anyone uses them and what they think about it in terms of execution, matching, max stakes etc.

    I do for pre-race trading. Can be a bit of a pain in the arse in-play as the prices jump around.

    The MAE figure in the software is helpful for planning stop-losses as it shows you how far against you (on average) your trades went before turning around and becoming profitable. So you can hopefully avoid cutting winning trades short wherever possible.

    This is definitely on the cards now that BetAngel have launched an API ๐Ÿ™‚

    @Martin I would argue that BFBM is the most popular because of the integration with BTC. Its a very weak argument though as I tend not to try and argue online, Ive never tried BFBM and Ive only been with Bet Angel for a few months!

    Absolutely loving the analysis betfair bot manager allows me to do on multiple strategies. Its something thats completely missing from Fairbot. Also loving how i havent had to touch a damn thing for 3 days. Can spend my time watching cat videos on youtube instead.

    How's everyone getting on with Automation on horses? Looks like BFBotManager is the most popular according to that poll I did. I really need to put some time aside and get automation sorted!

    @Adam
    1,2 and 3(3 is minimum of 5 races too) are stand alone searches I currently do. For instance 1, a 70% DOB rate wont necessarily have to have at pace rating of 9 or 60% DOB rate across course, going and class. Hope that makes sense...

    I then currently manually check the shortlist those 3 searches generate for a current(say, within a month) DOB over the distance(+2f, -1f), and class

    Anyone got any good things going with Dobbing at the moment? It's not something I have any current strategy on and I get asked about it a lot. Just wondering if anyone is having success with that type of trade?

    I did mess about with one a while back. It's more of a mix between DOB and Lay The Field

    @Tony-Hastie That should be possible.

    Just to confirm, are all 3 of those criteria mandatory, so they all have to be true? Or is an either/or thing.

    Also, when you say you "check" for recent DOB at distance and class, can you be more specific about what that means? The way you've described it in your numbered points is perfect as I can convert that strategy rules for you.

    @Martin @Adam

    I have 3 different criteria to make a shortlist

    1. 70% DOB, Min 5 races
    2. 60% DOB, min 5 races, pace number 9
    3. 60% DOB across course(min 2 races), going and class

    I then check all for recent DOB at distance and class.

    If the software can do that Im here for life๐Ÿ˜

    I checked out @John-Folan s DOB the slow horse, and Ive just had a look at @Wayne-Thomas s too. Couldnt see a way to do mine...

    @Martin This is my dobbing strategy that I created in February. 54% strikerate and 7% ROI.

    Screenshot 2023-07-12 at 09.33.17.png

    Backtesting shows 54% strikerate and 8% ROI, so looking promising.

    Screenshot 2023-07-12 at 09.58.24.png

    Slight issue with matching the individual trades in forward testing but I've recently changed it to allow any number of selections, which shows the same ROI and should eliminate the missed trades due to non-runners.

    It will probably tank now that I've shared it! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

    This is a Bet Angel bot that I use for the strategy, just in case that is of any use to anyone.
