GREY HOUNDS
-
Evening all , with this bloody Coronavirus destroying world sport . I have been trading greyhounds over the weekend, hopefully this will not be hit as surely this can still go on without paying punters at the venue?
Any one else trade greyhounds if so what is your strategy? I have noticed the liquidity over the weekend has increased probably because there are little other sports to trade which obviously helps -

@john-folan How you getting on? Not sure if you know but this is live greyhound racing on in the evenings on sky channel 437 (Sporty Stuff tv) ?
It’s more difficult than I thought. Everytime I think I’m getting somewhere it goes wonky. Nice one I usually use the live feed to watch it. I’ll try that thanks
No worries i found taking advantage of the pundits predictions can sometimes be a good way of making money especially the when one of them points out a dog that is high odds they can plummet in 20 seconds
Quite like that. Amazing people listen to pundits and things like Timeform. Still it can be used to our advantage

Scalping dog markets.
Stick to scalping the favourite.
4 minutes to 1 minute out only.
Don’t over stake.
Be a little patient they do move around a fair bit.
Don’t be billy big bollocks on the stakes. There is not enough money to get you out if you get in trouble.
Geeks Toy is the easiest software for this.

Started trialling something yesterday. Will post an update and what I am doing in a couple of days. Few immediate observations other than I NEVER EVER EVER thought I would place a bet ever again on a dog race....this is 2020 ffs.
Pros:
-
Literally dogs are running 24 hrs a day more or less. When it ends in the UK it starts in NZ and then AUS. So you can easily make up for quality with quantity.
-
Races and markets are pretty homogeneous (good for a boring but predictable low risk strategy). Usually 2-3 dogs at the head of the market and the rest are...well..dogs.
-
Fixed and small number of runners. This, in my mind, is the best bit. Makes the idea of dutching much more appealing than most horse races.
Cons:
-
Low liquidity in most races. Probably the UK markets will be a bit bigger given there is bugger all else to bet on right now but still will never even match the lowest grade horse race. So it again is only suitable for tons of small stakes trades.
-
No in-race trading for obvious reasons. Again fine for automated set and forget but not everyone's cup of tea.
That's it for now. Will let my first hack at this run for a couple of days and then will be back. This will be a BFBM bot approach only....and I can safely say I will not have watched a single race or looked at any 'form' (ha ha ha).

Dammit!!
On a serious note what James is doing is very similar to what I do. Although I just use Timeform to isolate trades

@martin-futter Hi Mate, all about learning I found with the greyhounds. Without a plan the first couple of days literally backing and laying randomly and funny enough getting random results. But over the weekend I spent both days trading literally every race from 10am until the last race. I think doing that amount of races your brain becomes trained on entry points and exit.
I don't lay first always back that way it reduces the liability incase the odds were to go against you. I get in sometimes 4 mins out from tips on Betfair(timeform) and the racing post , I put some back bets into the market normally much higher than the odds at the time in the hope it gets match ed then if they do put a lay trade in a few points below.
If not I get into the trade 90seconds to 2mins from the start, odds can fly around all over the place and that is when I find I can make some money and green out with 20seconds to go
Just finding the liquidty much better at the moment probably as literally every sport has succumbed to the virus, how long the dogs goes on for I don't know I reckon a couple more days personally -
@james-everard that's good any advice on strategy?
-
Hi Martin, been going well thanks, been trading a lot of races the last week and seem to be making small but consistent profit the last few days. It is about reading the price movements which move much quicker than horses. I get in from about 2mins out when the money starts pouring in and looking at the tips on betfair (3 timeform selections) and also using the racing post 3 selections for the race and using the 3 or possible 4 dogs to trade on. It took about 100 races to make profit consistent from the majority of the races .

@james-everard not a sport I have dabbled in except when having some info from an owner a few years back. how did the trading go?
