How's everyone feeling about today's play? Looks like a good day for batting, although Michael Holding feels 290 to 300 is a par score.
I still think England are too short, but if Anderson is at his best he's certainly capable of making early inroads in the NZ batting line up.
It seems as though the pitch is difficult for players starting their innings but if they get their eye in it's possible to make a big score, so for me the play could be to back NZ if their batting gets off to a solid start.
I'll also be happy to lay the draw at anything under 5; there's plenty for all bowlers in this surface and I'll be shocked if the draw price doesn't crash out in due course.

@nathan-bennett yeah mate I’m keeping my lay of England open into today and hoping for a very kiwi day will reassess if it goes against me obviously but should be a great days cricket.
-
@nathan-bennett thanks that's great and makes sense. It's a no brainer then!

Liking 1.68 lay ENG could be a nice stale market to go against hard to see it rapidly shortening
Wickets time a solid start by NZ with bat if ENG hit 3’s some stage will green up fair amount -
@dj-reid just an example .., but yes at current stage price is stupid i believe . would only take nz to get a few runs with the bat and that market to drift quite fast . in general i like too look too lay teams first inns odds on been profitable for me
and on other hand if you really fancied ENG ask yourself what price do you think they could be day 3.4 even 5 .. im sure at best ther price wouldnt be far off what it is now
sort of how im thinking here as to why think a lay is good -
Busy day but the back of SA at 2.52 pre lunch has paid dividends having greened up and built a nice base as they tear thru the Windies. Still playing the long game with the England lay from earlier this morning but great to have cricket back.
-
Can't believe England are still odds on!
-
@nathan-bennett i haven't managed to get a lay of England on yet. Is 1.7 or anything under still a good entry point?
-
@simji richard covered this spot on building is best in early days especially if suspect there could be some swings in the game . having targets is good at times i'll say lay ENG @1.7 pretty hard and remove 1/2 or all red @2.4 for a free roll and access from there until next entry points
many ways to do things -

On these tests as they are long. Do people take liability out every trade or do they green up every time to build a green??
I like to build up the green; when it comes to laying the draw you can often spot a good support point where the price stays in roughly the same position for a long time. If you can lay then, you can buy quite a bit of time during which, if there's a wicket or three, you can make a massive profit. Today the draw was very stable around 3.5. I managed a lay at 3.45. It's now touching 6.4, but I didn't get all of that as I took out quite a bit of liability along the way. I really like to build a solid green on day one if possible because it gives you such a good base for the rest of the match.
On the subject of laying the draw, I never leave an open position overnight. That saved me when we had the day unexpectedly washed out at Lord's.
That was an unlucky break, but sometimes the unexpected happens. Overall, the LTD strategy has made big profits for many years.
Interesting to note that the majority of matches at Edgbaston have not gone as far as the fifth day in recent years.

Good to see the back of NZ bearing fruit..... shows the value of patience.

LINE AND LENGTH

not sure if ENGs number 3 would make a sheffield shield team in AUS or plunket shield in NZ
-
Looking at the other Test starting today, I strongly fancy South Africa at around 2.3. Their quick attack of Nortje, Rabada and Ngidi should make life very difficult for a scratchy West Indies batting line up.
-
@james-woodroffe nothing wrong with laying odds on first inns
-
Home sweet home but already put to work. Laid England before at 1.66 @Nathan-Bennett England’s openers are painful to watch.
-
@richard-futter is this a long term trade as in for a few days or get out if a few quick wickets?
-
tough watch burns seems to have a lot of luck . some skill obviously tough competitior
1.5 will be another lay
