drip it out can be a good solution to this, doesn't let you second guess and like you say it's so difficult to find the optimum trade out moment.

@nathan-bennett yeah I've gone back in. Its interesting as i don't think Ned have bowled badly, and SL haven't been explosive, yet they've just been ticking along.
Plus SL have had lots of luck. So many edges and things landing in unusual places.
