I have been paper trading the lay the 1st set leader a while now. Helps that I like tennis just to watch, great sport. Where do you all find the best place to watch streams? Sometimes BF is such a tiny little screen!

Has it been profitable so far and have you looked at both women's and men's tennis (if so, do you find there is a difference)?

Coming up on something like 4 or 5 days of tennis trading and I absolutely love it! So interesting how the odds swing so much!

I just watched it. It definitely does not look intentional at all, just incredibly unlucky that it hits the woman. Having said that, obviously, he shouldn't do it in the first place so I guess the disqualification is fair, even if I have no doubt that he never meant to hit her or anyone else.

But it's tough for you, Ian, to lose this trade given you were out before any of this occurred.

    @ian-wylie Hey Ian!

Yep it's such a pain with Tennis that they have to play a fair amount of the game before they'll pay out. It is one of the rules of Betfair though, it caught me out a few times when I'd started as well buddy!

    Onwards and upwards though!

Good morning guys from a very frustrated novice trader!

I had been tracking Martin's lay the first set winner filter and it's incredible the amount of swings in terms of odds which you get in a tennis game. As I'm just starting out and have a small bankroll I'm using small stakes and had managed a few successful tennis trades.

Yesterday I looked at the Djokovic game and noticed that he was 1.04 to lay before the start so I had an idea to lay him at the start and hope that he started slowly but even if he won the 1st set then the lay odds wouldn't drop much more so I would still have a chance at the start of the 2nd set should he drop some points.

So for a liability of £4 I had the chance at £100 profit so I thought why not and placed the bet. I had to take my dogs out during the game and had the cash out screen up on my mobile with the intention of trading out if I had a few pounds profit and was checking the score every few minutes. As the game was edging towards a 1st set tie break I was thinking that I might have a real chance at getting some green and then Djokovic was behind on a service game and the cash out screen was showing £18.10 profit so I took it.

Great I thought, I was delighted... I know that £18 profit is nothing for all the experienced traders on here but for a newbie like me it was a lot and would have put me in an overall profit for the month.

I got home with the dogs and checked my phone again and it's showing all green but I noticed that the score hadn't changed and whilst thinking that was a bit odd I didn't worry as I was still showing profit regardless of who won so I went and poured a wee dram of whisky to celebrate my successful trade. Only later did I realise that he had been disqualified and my immediate thought was that I would have had £100 profit if I hadn't cashed out but I wasn't really bothered with that as I was still very pleased with my trade and if I had been offered a profit of £18 when I placed the trade at the start of the game then I would have been delighted.

It wasn't until I went onto Betfair and couldn't see my expected profit or my bets in the open or settled section did I start to worry and then I found them in the voided section!! I was not happy at all and googled the tennis disqualification rules on Betfair only to find that if the disqualification happens before the 1st set is completed then all bets are voided. It was a hard one to take due to the fact that I had traded out before the disqualification but just my rotten luck that he had to have a temper tantrum before the 1st set was over.

Sorry for the long message but just felt like having a rant

    Cheers all

    @daniel-cooper @Chris-Osborne I've put this together

It's pre match - so what you need to know before the match in your research etc...

In play - what you need to know in play

Be as detailed as you like 😉

This is open to @Everyone as well!

Probably me missing something obvious here but when raising a Tennis filter, is there a way of the return showing a list of players as opposed to the matches or is there away of clearly identifying which player the criteria refers to as sometimes its Player 1 and on other lines its Player 2

I've set up this filter as a starting point wanting to see players who lost the second set after winning the first: =

    0_1599219783266_22b8b8c3-b79e-4b69-a1a9-e198daba55c2-image.png

    Which gets this return: -

    0_1599219869692_6a6d5f5a-7b96-428c-83b6-bfc012416343-image.png

Digging deeper, on the Sequences TAb for the Linette Game for example, the 50% return in Criteria 2 relates to Player 1

    0_1599220062983_3887ee81-6f2c-40c4-938b-e35e31294c1d-image.png

Whereas in the Carreno-Bustav Bakaranis game, the 33% refers to Player 2 although the return on Player 1 is 38%?

@daniel-cooper I am about to build one 😉 Sooooo guess who I am asking what Q's they have about tennis trading? 😉

A couple of questions from me: -

Are there any useful websites to research players aside from the official ATP and WTA sites particularly showing stats for serve success as a starting point. I've seen Tennis Insight mentioned but are there any others - In time I'll have filters to show help with this but not there yet.

Secondly due to the higher volume of sefvice breaks in the Women's games than the mens does it make sense to focus on the WTA games due to volatility in price movements if the moves go your way?

Just a thought on this thread following on from the football challenge does anybody have any ideas for a tennis filter they are struggling to build?

I'll happily help build some out with you 🙂

I started looking at Tennis yesterday so EXTREMELY early days for me 😂 no doubt I’ll start to look at filters in future but looking to learn more first. Is there an advice page on trading Tennis like the one we have for football (the one that talks about what to research and red cards and stuff)?

@finn-kristensen At present we cannot split both players that way sadly, what I do is look at the win rate I want the top player to be then filter it that way then manually check compared to the other player.

We do have it on the update list 🙂

Judging from tonight alone (small sample size I know), Martins lay 1st set winner should be left for the second set to be won. I think the green from the odds different if the second set is won by the other play will far outweigh the lost liabililty on a potential 2 set streak from the first player. I think that approach is preferable to, say, cashing out when the losing player is 1-2 games ahead in the second set.

@finn-kristensen hey mate apologies I only just saw this. I’ve never heard of Tig which may be why Vecic is so short. Could be one to keep an eye on and see if Tig starts well.

Turned out the odds were pretty accurate as Vecic crushed Tig 6-2, 6-1 😊
