Sun Tzu’s The Art of Betfair Trading (Dan’s Trading Thread)

I agree a day a week off is a good thing for your trading & your life, I spoke with Steve Howe about this many times - he said he traded too much and it had a huge impact on his life and relationships.
Like investment bankers though - they all get burnt out from working all the time in the high stress environment

Check in for today (well, Thursday, which was 5 mins ago) - not a single trade. Daily email was empty and as has been discussed to death there was disruption on the filters - but a day off is pleasant and I’m a good few years from even thinking about full time yet, so gotta chill out! I didn’t even open Betfair once today! Dan of weeks ago would have been searching for those betting opportunities! Today was very pleasant indeed! On to tomorrow!
nothing wrong with a day off, took one trading myself, I say people should have at least a day off a week.

@daniel-cooper Good work, it’s important to know when to just leave it for the day and it’s good you recognise it and can do that

@daniel-cooper He's a good egg is Martin

Definitely, it pays not to over trade big time!
As it was, Cerro Porteno qualified and was a really successful trade! Took into consideration @Martin-Futter’s guidance on maximum lay liability %, risked about 2 points and made 2 and a half points
-
@daniel-cooper nothing wrong with being selective, a no trade is much more profitable than a losing one
well done

Update. Still not had. Trade qualify! Last one for the day in terms of the daily email trades is Cerro Porteno for Laying the Dog.
Over trading update - I kept watching the Stjarnan game (another Lay the Dog game) , especially the in play stats. It looked very lively, lots of SoT’s, people commenting on it in the forum, so I entered for O0.5 FH. I was very very lucky to get the FH goal at 45+5!!! Gave me a point and a bit profit. HOWEVER, in retrospect I should have been nowhere near that trade, it wasn’t on my plan and wasn’t necessarily, could have easily thrown a point away. I’m glad but very aware it was overtrading/trade hunting, something I should avoid until a much more experienced trader in terms of spotting value!
If Cerro Porteno go ahead early thats no official trades for the day. Lets see what that game brings.

Check in for today. Had things on this morning so was unable to properly research the two morning games from the daily email. As such, I wasn’t really watching them. The Lay The Dog didn’t qualify in the end. With the 11:30 Japan, technically it didn’t qualify as it was 3-0 at entry for late goal. I still had an eye on the stats and the odds as it intrigued me and the favourite were still getting SoT. As it happens, 2 more goals came in after 80 minutes so it would have been a tidy profit, but from a personal point of view I’m not starting at my screen forever or repeatedly checking stats or panicking over missed trades! This is really nice and I have plenty of time to research this evenings trades as well as finish reading some of Darri’s fantastic posts!

@darri thanks Darri! Yes, I have struggled with FOMO in weeks gone by and every now and then it rears its ugly head! But I’ve got the reigns on it now and hopefully it stays that way!

@daniel-cooper we used to have a couple guys called keith and frode post all the time on the football thread when i first joined, superb traders and they used to post all their trades on the forum. I used to jump on and regret as i see that they had a few winners but then i jump on the bad one etc. It happens. But what i started to do was on my plan and i still do this now, write down the times of the games. This will be dependant on strategy. But if you are say only going to get involved in 2nd half of a 3pm KO then write down for you to look at that game for 4pm. Go do something entirely different to trading. Gotta remember to avoid becoming addicted to trading much the same as gambling, money is involved here so be careful. Then when you have placed your trade come log on here and see what everyone is saying, this way you have a trade active and dont feel like your missing out on potential profit. Dont just jump on peoples trades in fact the first message in this blog is perfect your only sticking to a set type of filters and in background testing your own. Not everyone on the forum is pro and infact most are still learning despite how well presented their stuff may be, wish thee was an easy way to tell who is a pro and not without hurting anyones ego. Stick to this, once you have mastered these types of trades then see what others are doing and see if you could improve it. There is absolutely no rush to add loads of trades or strategies right now mate, think long term, if you have a massive bank you wont be wanting to be lumping £200 per trade on loads of strategies find a few and stick to them. Thats my opinion and from my experience but i see a similarity in your last post there to what i used to do and its dangerous FOMO (fear of missing out) your doing well.

And so the tempatation strikes. I like to keep an eye on the forum as I find it all interesting, but it is deadly! I've seen Alan's message about Dalian (dog) going ahead - check in to see their at 2-0 up at 30 mins with very favourable Lay odds!
Not going to enter as not on the plan, but will probably watch the score - very tempting but sticking to the plan or I'll regret it! Recording this to cement it to myself.
-
So, half time and its 0-4 to the favourite... no laying the dog today! Although if I had I would be sitting pretty right about now! If this game is showing on my Lay U3.5 filter I'm testing then that'll be cool!
As much as it'll pain me, I'm going to try not to keep Betfair and probably the forum closed for the rest of the day. That way there'll be no temptation to jump on other peoples trades. I really want to trade more as I enjoy it but I know if I go against the plan I'll start to see red!
Have a good day all
-
None of my filters are really developed enough yet to trade off of them, so the only game I am/was watching is the Guangzhou v Shandong game as per the daily email. The favourite has gone ahead so unlikely I will enter at all. Dan of a week ago would be looking at in play stats now and probably going on the goals market, maybe even FHG, BUT I'm aware I only have 2 months experience and I don't want to throw away my green from yesterday, so if the Lay the Dog doesn't pan out that is my ONLY trade of the day and I will ensure Betfair stays closed!

@Darri @Martin-Futter @Ryan-Carruthers Thanks guys! I will keep this as up to date as possible, its actually a really helpful way of documenting everything!
