2 Step Verification
-
I'm now at a stage where being hacked and having money taking from my betfair account would hurt. Interested to see who uses the 2 Step Verification? I did for a while and then when I swapped my phone I didn't change it before. It became such a nightmare just to log in again that I've not used it since.

@richard-latimer it’s not that, why keep so much money in there? If you have all of your bankroll tempting you to go all in it’s riskier imo.
I would never do that but some interesting points. I'll decide where to go from here.

@richard-latimer Haha, can you not use PayPal or a separate account just for that?

@richard-latimer it may be ok but there’s no benefit to taking the risk in my opinion. If it got hacked and you lost the money you’d certainly kick yourself for leaving more in than necessary
It's just that the minute I withdraw it it's money that could be eaten up. It will be visible to the wife and she will be able to transfer it between accounts. While she believes my dreams are pie in the sky it is entirely possible she could do this haha!

@richard-latimer I have used 2fa for a couple of years with no problem.

Just reading up and seems the only way to byass the 2 step verification for a hacker would be to con me into giving details back either by email or a phishing website. I consider myself savvy enough to know instantly when these things are happening so think I'm good.
Fake emails are getting better and better I must say but if in any doubt at all I just delete it haha!

BF always seems to get hacked. Mine got emptied a few years ago but luckily I got it back quite quickly, others aren’t so lucky though and it can be a pain! I don’t think there’s need to keep much in BF as deposits are instantaneous so I’d rather keep a manual record of my trading bank balance and then just a few days worth of stakes in BF, the rest in my bank or Paypal
yep thats the key, very rarely any need to keep more than 20% of your bankroll in Betfair, it doesn't gain interest!
Even with 2 Step Verification, do you not think it's that secure?

My brother does Cyber security for a living and he recommended it.
Works the same way as google in that you download an app on your phone that generates codes but you also have it on your pc/tablet as well.
https://authy.com/blog/authy-vs-google-authenticator/Thanks for that. I feel a lot happier now.

@richard-latimer I use 2 step Verification thankfully as a few years ago I suffered an attempted hack and was probably saved by 2 Step.
I don't find it much bother to be honest and recommend Authy rather than google as you can get codes from your PC as well as from your phone so a lost/upgraded phone is no problem.
To be honest Richard it's crazy not to get 2 step as Betfair accounts seem to be very attractive to hackers.
After the attempted hack on my account Betfair closed it and transferred all my funds to a new account and advised me to use a secure username with caps etc not an email so maybe do that as well.Cheers. Didn't know you didn't have to use google. How do you use this other you mentioned?
