I was thinking along similar lines, although I would rather wait for the 20-over mark when the balls will have softened a little.

@richard-futter certainly would be favouring windies here with Australia’s record in England, but need to knock smith over for a little score

Great start for the pacemen. Difficult to read this one.

assuming no collapse could be very high scoring, this is the 481 score pitch again today!

You could be right. Plenty of pace in the pitch. Just seen a forward defensive shot go for 4!

Market heavily favouring Australia. Would expect their price to fall pretty quickly if they make a decent start.

@richard-futter really looking forward to this match, fascinating contest. Always have a soft spot for the Windies, so hoping the pace men get stuck in here.

Australia bat first and, as expected, the Windies' price went from 2.84 to 2.62, albeit briefly. Settling down around the 2.7 mark. Can't see an obvious trading angle from the start; the Aussies are capable of a big opening partnership but, equally, the Windies pace men could make early inroads.

Australia have won only three of eight ODI appearances at Trent Bridge, and their most recent match here was a 242-run hiding by England last year. By contrast, West Indies have only lost once in eight games at the venue, and that was as far back as 1984.

@peter-laverty they have not played in a couple of years but Aus have won 4 of the last 5 games, including 3 out of 4 in WI. Aus also won the warm up a few days ago (not that significant but still a worry).

Any thoughts on today's game? West indies look tempting at 2.8.

It's so difficult to assess these kinds of matches in advance. Australia have been amazingly consistent this year and beat West Indies quite comfortably in their warm up match.

But, having blitzed Pakistan at the same venue in their opening match, Jason Holder's team will surely be relying on all out attack in all departments of the game.

If Holder wins the toss, he will surely insert the opposition, and the Windies' price is likely to crash in from the current 2.82 - but only if Gayle and Russell are declared fit, which I'm fairly sure they will be.

After that, I reckon this could be the most unpredictable of the tournament. My head says Australia, my heart the West Indies 🙂
