Having a back of England at 1.61. Pitch looks good and the ball coming on to the bat nicely. Can see the home side going past 350 here.

You were correct by the way with the early wicket.
I don't have a clue about cricket but was hoping for some trading angle to look at to make the game interesting in terms of trading as well as wanting England to win -
@gary-brown I don't do straight betting - and certainly wouldn't be diving in just yet..... thought Tahir would be dangerous. Will wait for things to settle down a little before moving in. Bound to be a few nerves early on.

Hi guys just read Richards post and as a trading angle its basically hoping for SA to take some early wickets.
What if they don't take early wickets? This maybe unlikely to happen.
Any other views and trading angles or is it worth just having a bet as most people expect England to win.

The World Cup starts today and it should be a cracking opener between hosts and tournament favourites, England, and the perennial under-achievers in this competition, South Africa.
England have won their last four matches, while South Africa have been successful in their last five, so recent form isn't really a major factor.
Bowling wise, there will be plenty of pace on show with Jofra Archer and Mark Wood leading the England attack, and Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi pretty much matching them speed-wise.
The wily Dale Steyn will be a major loss for the Proteas. Chris Morris is hardly an adequate replacement and I can easily see the likes of Bairstow and Buttler plundering his bowling on what should be a batting friendly Oval pitch.
The spin battle between Adil Rashid and Imran Tahir should be equally intriguing, and I would expect Tahir to come out on top in that contest.
For me, though, England have a definite edge and have the batting line up to hit back if they lose one or two early wickets.
Currently, England are at 1.54, so not much value there. However, Rabada and Ngidi are definitely capable of making early in-roads into the top order. If they do and England approach evens, I will definitely be backing them.

How seriously will the teams take these warm up matches before the tournament? Is there any value to be had in laying the favourites in these or are they best avoided?

You are right they are the appealing prices in this market, especially NZ.

Nothing on my shortlist for trading today so have been looking forward to the world cup. Been looking at fixtures and then comparing them to the betfair prices. I think without seeing the other teams England and India are the 2 standouts but both have a lot of expectation here. The 2 that caught my eye at the prices are New Zealand and South Africa.

South Africa have tough start with eng and india in there first 3 games but after the india game i think they would be favourites for most of the games. If you look at their team its full of in form players from the ipl, some of the best averages in recent odi, and again they have a top class seam attack and a bowler in Tahir thats had a great record in england. They tick a few boxes i like. Their price right now is good i think but my idea of an angle here is if there is still a chance of qualifying ie other results have maybe caused shocks, then at inflated prices i may have a back of them and then just run with them through to the last few games.
Im gonna watch the warm ups closely especially west indies and australia cause i think the big teams could eye them as potential flops. Just thought i would post this to see if anyone else was having a look at an outright angle?

I see Archer announced in the England squad. No surprise, he looks a different class to be honest. Excited to see what he’ll do in the WC. A shame on Willey missing out. He’s the unlucky one that had to give way.

England batting first is it a time to wait or to back England and trade out. I haven't got a clue lol. I am just guessing not sure how it all works so my thoughts are England odds will fall as they build up a decent total on a good batting pitch according to the commentators.

does the back the first team to bat and lay after a few overs work in these one day internationals or is that just on the 20 over games

bring it on.., I don't mind a low risk lay if ENG were to score huge and lay ENG first 10 overs of second inn's and assess trade outs
