Back The Favourite v3.0 - New and Improved
-
@Joseph-Henderson I'm glad the horse software is so good that we now think 17pts profit is struggling!
Yeah it's tailed off a bit so leaving it for now as the other strategies are looking better, will keep an eye on the backtesting.
-
Hi Martin. Do you know when v4.0 was created? I had it down as Feb 2023? Just looking at the back testing and seems it's struggled a bit since then with around 17pts profit to £1 flat stakes. Cheers
-
@Paul-Donnellan always selections, have you added [email protected] to your safe senders list?
-
@Joseph-Henderson You should be using a back price of 1.01 to ensure the bet is matched.
-
Maybe a daft question but if I don't receive an email in the morning for the horse racing selections, does that mean there are no selections for that day?
-
@John-Folan Do you find that betting inplay and selecting the “Initial Price” works quite well, albeit tends to be a little either side of the BSP, which I guess probably evens itself out over hundreds of bets… I tried selecting the “Start Price” option, which does seem to hit the BSP, albeit I found quite a few bets get voided or lapsed presumably because they don’t get matched at the BSP as the market probably moves too fast. Think I will stick to “Initial Price” and just accept it may be slightly off the BSP. Any thoughts?
-
@Joseph-Henderson they will probably add BSP favourite as a condition in a future update you ask them. They are pretty good like that
-
@John-Folan I did contact BFBot and I think under the strategy settings the option for determining the favourite position should be set to “start price” not “chance” apparently. So I might give that a go..

I had a discussion with Adam about a strat i run with a short entry window (1 second before the start) having very different results in reality to the backtest (i had more trades). The reason is LTP. If your selections LTP is within the range in that time windowany trading software will place that bet since LTP is the 'last traded price' no matter when it occurs (even if at the extreme on a low liquididty event that was 5 mins ago). Thats not how the backtest works though. The backtest needs the selection to actually trade in that window. So, a tick on that selection in that last second. On the average strat thats not goimg to make any difference at all. If your using stupid small windows likw i was then its a massive issue.
In regards to the missing data if those ticks in your entry time window are missing that selection wont trade. I dont know if that is why you have the difference. But, Adam posted that data was missing and if its like last time then that could be the issue.
-
@Jonathan-Jones Interesting. What do you mean by needing a tick during a specific time frame?
-
@John-Folan, @Joseph-Henderson
Adam posted about missing data yesterday afternoon. If its anything like last time it will be a mix of total missing races and missing ticks on some horses. Missing ticks on your horse could explain the backtest betting on a different one since on the backtest it has to actually have a tick in the timeframe to trigger an action.
-
@Joseph-Henderson no? Weird one that. Just checked and mine did the same. Spot on apart from that though.
-
@John-Folan This seems to work a lot better. Bit of a specific query but any idea why the bot took Connies Rose (4.4 BSP) in the 4pm at Chepstow? The favourite was Jacquelina (3.5 BSP).
-
@Joseph-Henderson I've gone for a bit of overkill. This will make sure only the favourite is bet on. I've also made sure that the selection criteria uses BSP as the price filter. You can change that if you want.
-
@Joseph-Henderson I’ll change that but mines only been doing the favourite so not sure what’s happened here.
-
@John-Folan Are you importing the selections close to the off and therefore leaving the favourite filter on in the BTC software? I think the default bet type on BFBM is just set to "back". So not sure how it is betting on just the favourite?
-
@Joseph-Henderson that’s weird it’s not done that on mine. I’ll take a look tomorrow
