    Another silly newbie question.

I was up very early this morning (4.30 am) so, I decided to start placing my bets for the day.
After a lay-in (11.45 am) I decided to compare the odds, and found that if I waited, I would have gotten better odds.
So, my question is, as a rule, what time is best for placing the Set-and-Forget bets? or is it just pot luck?

As it was very early in the morning, I did consider placing them at a tick above or below and wait to see if they get match. Is that something that works?

    Many thanks in advance.

@tom-2 depending on the gap you could get a few ticks more, never take available price on gappy markets

    Thanks Kevin,
I have heard of overround and I'll remember your advice on it in future.
I'd love to start automation. (Bet Angel looks good) but I'm still on the bottom rung of the ladder right now.
Out of interest, what automation do you use?

Key for me is to check the overround when I'm placing a bet and the spread between the Best Back & Lay prices. If the overround is good i.e. under 101/102% then I'd consider placing a bet at current best odds.
If it's not and there's quite a spread between back and lay then I'd probably go in at Best Lay price - 1 tick to see if I can get matched. That's fine if I know I have time to check later before the event starts...
I also use automation to cover this scenario so the bot will check say 5 mins before the start and cancel any unmatched and place a bet if necessary.
For the horses of course the alternative is to bet at BSP
