Dutching - any good?
-
As part of my trading adventure, I've tried dutching my horse trades, which I've had some very favourable results with so far. However, I've seen little mentioned about it here and I was wondering what other members experiences with this are. Is it a consistent winner or am I just getting some 'beginners luck'?

@david-baker-0 I try to keep the number of runners to about 10 or less. Ideally, I want to bet on all of the runners but typically I bet on the first 4 or 5. I find that you can reduce the field a bit by eliminating the really long shots, usually with a starting price over 20. Sure, there will be the occasional ambush from nowhere but these are rare.
I've really gone with the simplest method that I can set up in less than a minute. Let me know how you go with this, I'd be interested to know if its as successful as my experience.

Hi there
As I have a few days off I thought I might give this a whirl.Just wondered do you do any race or have a criteria ie number of runners or odds range? -
@john-folan Its been pretty good for me when I keep it simple. I tend to pick the first 4 or 5 front runners before the off and use the betfair ducthing function. I've a few caveats to each race, like I'll go with a target win amount per race or I'll not trade on a horse greater than 15.0 , but overall its that simple. I only need £10 a day profit, so Ill bet £5 or even £10 if Im confident. I only need £1 per race profit, so only need to be right 10 times a day. Sure, there will always be that 50.0 winner that comes from nowhere but generally these are very infrequent.
I may increase my bet next year but will still only be looking to make the same profit. That would, in theory, reduce my risk and shorten my trading time. Getting greedy is a real enemy of this method, so start with a target profit in mind and work out how you are going to get there.
This method is perfect for anyone without time to spend watching races and very short on time. You can place a trade on 10 to 20 races in about 30 mins and pick up your winnings at the end of the day.
Simple always wins in the end. I've spent a great deal of cash trying different methods and I've compared this against every method i know. Mathematically this is the one that stands the test above others.
One key thing to finish with.
If you can bet on every horse in the race and make a profit, throw in your whole bank! I find a race like this every few days and when you own every possibility of winning, take it all!
Let me know if I can help at all.

@ryan Okay, so taking that into account, I'm assuming that this was successful for you....and it has been for me. I don't have a huge amount of time as a bus driver and I just put on trades at the end of each journey when I have 5 minutes and 26 seconds spare between trips.
I've been experimenting over the past couple of weeks with this. I'm not a math guy and the daily emails I get about what to bet have been ideal for me. The whole form/formula/software thing isn't really for me but dutching is really working for me, as obviously it reduces the possibility of a loss when you have 50% or more of field staked out. The math is pretty basic and I've been staking just £5 or £10 per race, with an average return of between £1 and £2.
The results I've had so far are significant and while there is always that one race where the 100 to 1 shot comes up from the back of the field to take the race, I've consistently come out at a profit.
I'm not in any way diverting anyone from the racing software, works for some but just not for me. However, is there a method to incorporate dutching into the software? I'm just picking the first 2 to 4 horses most likely to win but have bought out the whole field on a couple of occasions, throwing my entire bank into it...when I just couldn't lose.
Interested to hear your experiences and anyone else that has used dutching as a successful strategy.
@adam can we Dutch?
What sort of criteria are you following. I’ve Dutch laid before but not to any great extent

@julian-drake-clarke For me it doesn't matter what you do to get profit, find profit and keep going with it. If it works stick with it, then use this forum to get better smarter etc...
When it comes to the software I will tag @John-folan in here as he might be best placed to help you
