    🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷 Putting this together after the weekends chat about red wine!

    I might also try and get a form built where you can add your red recommendation and we can upvote it!

    Getting a bit out of hand!

    Pop your reds below and why you love em, then I'll work through them!

    I’m hitting the 19 Crimes tonight. My carafe takes two bottles. There is no longer two bottles in there.

    Read the first post on both threads.

    @mark-maguire oooo look at you, I have a little gadget thing the wife bought me off Amazon where you pour the wine through into your glass and it gets air into the wine. Mega thing really!

    @Ryan bargains love it.. let me know what you think - get it decanted .. with those grape varieties they like a it of air .. do yourself a favour and taste it straight away and then after ten minutes and see how the fruit opens up

    @Ryan with you guys liking the Yellow Tail Jammy Red and Jam Sheds of this world you're talking Shiraz blends .. so I'l send some recommends later for some Syrah (French for Shiraz)/Grenache blends - Cote du Rhone and Languedoc a good place to start.

    But top tip - if you're drinking these grape varieties make sure its at least three years old.. to quote a wine grower I met in Chateuneuf du Pape last month "If you drink these grape varieties younger than three years its like buying a Ferrari and driving it in first gear" 😂

    The caveat is that (particularly in the new world) they use oak to soften the tannins and so its drinkable earlier - but.. here's a couple worth a try from Waitrose in that style (check the age) Les Trois Pierres Costieres de Nimes (which is less famous than the Rhone but makes the same style of wine and is great value) or a bit more expensive Gigondas Blason du Rhone.. Gigondas is a Rhone Village which produces wines with those jammy fruits you like.

    I too have been a red wine fan for most of my adult life and now I am old and wizened I use a simple selection process. I look for wines with "silly" names. So I would recommend Yellow Tail Jammy Red Roo (as in kanga), Jam Shed Shiraz and any of the 19 Crimes range.

    Enjoy!

    I like Jam Shed and 19 crimes. Not tried the other one.

    @john-folan They do indeed.

    I will post some recommends over the next few days both in terms of styles //regions//grapes .

    First one as Camp Viejo was mentioned before - if you like that style there is a wine Called Vina Amezola, Crianza, I think you can get it from Ocado, Wine Society, Berry Brothers - maybe Waitrose.

    Its classic Rioja but now aged in American/French oak... its stunning. packed with fruit softened by the Oak, will set you back about £19 a bottle but its worth twice that.

    Interesting about the second wines. I’m guessing some people do make wine for the love of it

    @chris-osborne too be fair there's too much snobbery around it - if you like it its a good wine.. best quote I've heard from a friend of mine who was a master wine.. he'd heard Jancis Robinson describing a wine and talking about a hint of "unwashed cows udders" .. how does she know he asked? ☺
