Footy Trading For Thickos - A Simple Plan
-
If Im in the wrong place to share this, please feel free to point me in the right direction
We seem to have some pretty smart people here that were paying attention at school rather than graffitiing their desk with a compass. Unfortunately, I wasn't one of them. So, when I encounter stats and figures, I tend to get more than a little lost.
To put it in context, I've been here a couple of weeks, so my crude methods are just a starting point. However, I've worked a simplified method and it seems to actually work.
So, I'd like to share my 'Footy Trading for Thicko's' method, which I may market at the low, low price of a night of passion with your missus, two nights if she's a looker
-
I typically use the brilliant BTC software but my picks for matches are also just ones where there is no clear team favourites. These are usually between 2.0 and 4.0.
-
I only use small stakes, either £2 or £3 and trade on under 3.5 or, if the return looks good, under 4.5
-
I set each trade to auto cash out; I don't care how much I could make, when it hits green at 50p. Not enough even for a Snickers bar...but if you trade 20 plus games a day it soon adds up!
-
Before BTC I would try to watch all the matches but that gets stressful. I now am into Bet and Forget big time. So, if I place trades before going to bed, I can see the results when I wake up.
5.I trade as many games as I can. At work, in a bar, lunch break or on the bog, any footy game that looks like a fit, I get in on.
- I never let emotion be part of my game. There will be losses but ultimately there have been more winning than losing trades. Find the game, trade £2 at under 3.5 and move onto the next.
I started this Monday with a bank of £50. Its now Friday and that has now become £82, so I can say that early indications are promising.
My key stat is this; How much did I win/lose? Right now, at this early part of my journey, that's all that matters. Later, with more knowledge, I'll be able to dial this down to a couple of hours trading but right now, I'm viewing this as a starting point. I'm trying to get my head around how the stats influence future predictions, and I'm sure it'll come when it stops making my head hurt. One day it'll all fall into place and while I'm pretty low on the autism scale. that moment will happen when Ill be watching a video from Martin or Ryan and suddenly I'll become Dustin Hoffman....with a much smaller hooter!
One final thing; I'm totally blown away with BTC. The amount of dedication and knowledge is just astounding! I'm working my way thru the info and its actually working. Bottom line is that I'm bloody excited!

@julian-drake-clarke What a great read, humour, style and useful info. Looking forward to seeing how it all pans out and have noted to follow your journey.

So I think its time to dial this down a bit and get my head into the game. I've done the proof of concept bit and found BTC to have the juice to make money. I've goofed around with the game plan and tried a few methods. The great thing about my work as a bus driver is that at the end of each journey, I get a 10 min break to check the results of a game. I can see that the idea of my doing 50 to 100 trades is impractical on a workday, so lets take what I've learned so far and see if I can 'do less to get more' . Also a weekly pay check helps big time, as any adjustments to the bank roll can be effected each Friday.
I started the day on YouTube and got really inspired by @Martin 'under 2.5' video. I've tried doing under 2.5 before but always seem to come out a loser, mainly because I was only guessing the outcome rather than checking stats.
Okay, so lets just do that for a week and see what happens. No distractions, no FOMO, just under 2.5. I'm also going to up my stakes to £5, as this represents 5% of my bankroll. I've seen many trading professionals recommend this as a reasonable percentage per trade and doing a self audit for a second, I do feel ready to step this up a gear. I've set aside
As for the overall big picture, I'm going to break this down into 12 phases, one for each month. I'm setting very loose goals of where I want to be at the end of each phase but not to chase targets. It's just going to be a measure of progress, nothing more. Hopefully after 12 months, I'll have a level of knowledge (and self control) to trade full time.
Lets see where this leads us

Journey is exactly the right word!
I've gained a lot of sports trading classes over the years but not found a community in the same way as here. Its been more of 'here's the product, now get on with it'. I've made money, mainly on horses and Football in a very small way but my real interest is the 'Aha!' moments I get when a suggested technique or idea actually works.
I had that today! I had intended to just put a whole load of £2 and £3 bets out there, walk away and come back to see the result at the end of my work shift. No such luck! The control freak in me was constantly peeking and tweaking my selection to try and squeeze that last penny out of each trade.... Lesson 1; Must not let the control freak in me get involved, place the trade and move onto the next!
My next big moment was also today. I've seen this before but I remembered somewhere in the back of my mind about 'Laying the score line'. I started to do this late in the day to see what would happen but rather than take the opening price of, for example, 20, I laid the score at 2! I was astounded to find how many games actually traded at this by the 70th, 60th or even 50th minute! Lesson 2; Laying the score works and without a huge liability!
I started today with £150 and placed eventually over 100 trades. I actually lost count because I'd get two early goals then add trades over 2.5 or whatever and it got a bit out of control. Its now days end and I've a bank roll of £138. I'm really excited about this..... where else can you get a full day's education on making money for £12!! I'm totally jacked up!
What I've picked up today was invaluable and most of it was inspired by watching @Ryan videos. Yes, I know you've all advised paper trading but that just would have led me into procrastination and my BTC would have been left behind along with my gym membership. I've very little risk adversity and I know I've a long way to go before I can confidently reach a goal of going full time... but today felt like a big step to a very exciting journey!
This is an excellent post. I like this, watching your progression is exciting.

So, that's what I did
Woke up this morning and the result is..... I'm up £3.58!!
Off to buy a Snickers for myself and the wife with the winnings and will probably try this again later
-
I just had this crazy idea!
I'm going to find 30 football games and at the start of the game I'm going to lay 0-0 at 2 for a £1 stake! I'll do this now and leave it overnight.
Lets see what happens!!

i like this idea interesting

@julian-drake-clarke what stage of the journey are you on?
@Ryan has created some great training recently!
-
Soooooo....today i have 50 trades out there. A 'Pick'n'Mix' bag of 'U3.5' and LTD if there's a favourite. Like all of us, i'm up for the money but today i'm playing scientist. I've got £150 in play, which is about what i spend when i take the wife shopping at Costco, so if it all goes sideways it doesn't feel like a loss.
All trades are Bet'n'Forget' so i'll check in at lunch to see how its going.
While I remember to ask, are there any additional programs or training you guys offer to help improve my trading skills? Want to focus on football for the moment and not get confused.

@julian-drake-clarke love this!
