@jonathan-jones just bear in mind that sim modes will tend to match more bets, at better odds, than live mode every seams to.

I tend to use live mode, but with really small stakes rather than sim modes.

@jonathan-jones I'm interested to hear your findings so please do report back.

Sure, I have a strat that i am testing on sim mode at the moment. It uses a stoploss that would normally activate inrunning. I give it 10 ticks between trigger and placement (and these are typically odds between 2 and 5 so plenty of liquidity) and its missed at least half a dozen today. Probably more, will know later but the fail rate is so high its going to be pretty easy to tell if the api change makes any difference. If it doesnt help i will bin the strat. Its simple as anything, performs great in the backtester but falls over all the time when i try live because of the stupidly high fail rate on the stop loss.

I have moaned about the refresh rates. If they had exchange streaming we would be well away.

Are they still using the old BF API?! 😮 😬

That comment got me looking at fairbot. It offers both but the api-ng is default (so the slower one). Might explain why i have been finding anything inrunning a total waste of time. Going to see if stream api is anyh better from tomorrow.

Today's now its no longer the apocalypse.

Classic Trobs: Dob, Trob or Win if odds are between 3.5-9
    0_1658313324402_TROBS.JPG

Flat Pace. Back to Win or Place if Win Price is between 2.0-25.0. 4-14 Runners only. Avoid Soft, Heavy and Firm Going.
    0_1658313343083_FLat Pace.JPG

Slow Horses. Dob any over 6.0. Multiple selections per race are what makes this profitable. Just think Pokemon.
    NONE TODAY

I'm also watching these to see how they perform. They are a variation on my Classic Trobs with less filters.
Trob or Win(Not worth Dobbing) any between 2.0-20.0 Near the Off

@paul-foster It depends on what price range you are placing the bets in when in-play. You can't say, take the Best Back Price. You have to put in a much lower price. The opposite for laying. 🙂

@john-folan yes, played about with that. Still has a large number unmatched. Always manages to match the ones that go against me though!!

@paul-foster have you tried going in a tick or two lower and reducing the refresh rate to 300ms.

@jonathan-jones They all have their limitations. Bet Angel is by far the most comprehensive, but as all my automation is (currently) set and forget I find bfbotmanager more than adequate. I especially like being able to assign each strategy a separate bank with it's own staking programme. Also the fact I can download selections from BTC and then just by changing a couple of headers can import straight into bfbot.

I'm looking at inrunning stuff now and the sheer speed of bet angel (20ms as opposed to 300ms on bfbot), will make it a must have.

I’ve tried a couple of in running strategies with BFBM and it tries to place the correct selection but the hit rate for these getting matched is quite poor. I may look at Bet Angel when my current BFBM licence expires.

So does BfBotManager keep track of the results too? Is it smart enough to adjust the stake based on the results of the strategy?

Yes and yes is the simple answer. 😃

@john-folan @jonathan-jones thank you for your comments.

I'm just wondering jonathan how you find fairbot for set and forget strategies? Is it the same as per your previous comments or are they related to more complex strategies?

Depends on yor set and forget. If you can do a strat that applies to all and has generic criteria (so odds range, row position etc) then its very simple. Even set and forget can have complex criteria and only apply to some horses. This can still be a pain as you would need to create a generic strategy with cloned rules that select the runner at runtime. Thats a pain on a big race day and itrs pretty error prone.

Best thing to do is download a copy and try it (think you get 10 days). If you have any issues on how to do something just post on here and i will try to help.

I'd echo Jonathan's comments. Fairbot does pretty much what I need covering various set and forget approaches.
The support is very good, if you can't work out how to do something they're quick to respond and potentially build the strategy rules for you.
They are meant to be adding in plays stats over the next few months which will be very interesting..

@jonathan-jones this is good info, it may be worth feeding that back to fairbot as I'm sure they would like to figure that stuff out

    @darryll

I use fairbot. I am not 100% sure about it yet. What i will say is customer support are very good. In terms of the automation its a bit of a mixed bag. Some stuff is very flexible but i think you may eventually run into limitations. Its not nearly as comprehensive as bet angel and i have seen a few glitches which have cost me money. They offer a very simple free trial though (you just download it and off you go) so you may as well give it a go.

My pet hates with it so far:
It cant do custom logging (so debugging a misbehaving bot is difficult),
It cant read external data (so loading selections from a spreadsheet etc is not possible (though i have found a way round this).
It cant store varibles for a strategy so you end up doing stuff like putting penny backs at 1000 to mark a selection inplay etc.
Without hacks because of the way you set criteria on a selection it can still take a long andvery error prone time to set up a days worth of selections.

If i could justify the cash for bet angel i would probably switch but this one does for now.
