Hi all,
Ive purchased the horse racing software and enjoying playing about with it but stuck on a few bits if anyone can help.- Ive run my strategies but want to remove horses age 7 only, how do i do this?
- Similar, I want to remove certain distances and number of runners?
- Im not getting any upcoming qualifiers, ive had the software for 5 days.(ive clicked active button)

Hi Adam, I find it more straight forward with using simple tick boxes that you can select or de-select.

That is why I research a lot, to find reasons. If I don't find one, it goes in the random category. The simplest way when researching is to stick to trends/clusters, it saves time. Also, the odd random result in a list can still result in long term profits, so are not worth taking out.
The last thing is how many results the stats are based on, the less you have, the more likely randomness can be involved. Take the Chester example I posted the other day, very few results, with random profit or loss. If I didn't know the reason why it worked, I would just dump it. However, I already knew the strategy worked from decades of being at Chester, and then used data to refine it to increase profits more.

It’s an interesting discussion point as I had this internal debate with myself (I won) when I was looking at a strategy the other day. The example from memory was sorting by number of runners and there were a a few random ones that were showing chunky loss but good results either side.
I went to remove them but stopped and decided against it as it was a discernible trend but rather appeared to be random.

As an example, if I saw the results below, taking out horses aged 11+ is a no-brainer (for the same reason mentioned below). However, some people would look at the results and take out 7-8. Why? What is the reason that age group is rubbish? I've been involved with horses for over 20 years, and can tell you no reasonable reason exists. If you leave them out of a strategy just because they show a loss, then you are back fitting the strategy to force a positive result. Sometimes they work, more often they fail long term.

@keith-driscoll actually makes a very good point. I was so caught up in the technicalities of how we could do it that I forgot to stop and ask why.
Is there really a reason why removing one number from a range would make a difference?
I can understand it with the draw positions, which was why we implemented that one as a select list instead of a range. But with something like distance, I would think it would only be meaningful in terms of longer / shorter, rather than just removing 1m2f races and leaving everything either side.

The problem with removing certain qualifiers that appear in the middle of a range is why?
If you have a strategy and look at the results for Age, and 2-4 are profitable, 5 is not, 6-9 are profitable, 10 is not, 11+ are profitable. You want to take out 5 and 10, that is a natural thought process. However, I never take things out of a strategy unless I understand why, and that type of thing has no reason other than randomness, which is not a reason to change a strategy.
If it was just to take out 2 years old, I would know the reason is that horses at this age are not fully grown. If I want to take out 10+, the reason is that they are older and likely slower.
Unless I have a trend showing in results, I never base a strategy based on random results.

I've been thinking about how we can tackle the above after seeing your support request @craig-johnston . I might add a select list version of those rules to make it easier. Keith's suggestion will work as a workaround for now.
For number 3, can you log a support ticket with the name of the strategy so I can see why the qualifiers aren't appearing?

For 1 and 2 you just create a new rule group and select “none” this means that it will not include any horses that match those rules in that group. So for the age rule you just select “7”. Same for the distances and number of runners.
For number 3 I can only suggest maybe there aren't any qualifiers? If you message support I'm sure @adam will check
